Josh Jung 3B | TEX
Rangers' Josh Jung: Swats solo homer
Jung went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Red Sox.
Jung had two of the Rangers' three hits in the game, including a solo shot off Nick Pivetta in the second inning. This was Jung's first multi-hit effort since returning from right wrist surgery. He's gone 4-for-17 (.235) over five games since his return. For the year, he's batting .324 with three homers, seven RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base across nine contests, but it looks like he's still finding his timing at the plate after a long absence.

Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Yields five runs in loss
Eovaldi (8-5) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over five-plus innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Red Sox.
Eovaldi landed 66 of 99 pitches for strikes, but he gave up solo home runs to Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran. He ran into more trouble in the sixth inning, and Walter Pennington allowed two inherited runners to score, giving Eovaldi a mediocre outing. The right-handed starter has allowed 16 runs over 23 innings across his last four starts, a span that has also seen him yield seven homers. For the year, he's posted a 3.62 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 113:27 K:BB across 117 innings over 20 starts. He's given up 17 long balls this year after surrendering just 15 over 144 innings in 2023, so it's something to monitor going forward. Eovaldi's next outing is projected to be a challenging one on the road versus the Yankees.

David Hamilton 3B | MIL
Red Sox's David Hamilton: Two thefts in Sunday's win
Hamilton went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, two stolen bases and two total runs scored in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Rangers.
Hamilton sat out the first two games versus the Rangers after going 0-for-12 with five strikeouts over three contests versus the Mariners earlier in the week. The reset seemed to help, as the infielder put together his first multi-hit effort since July 14. His recent slump has taken some of the wind out of his sails -- he's at a .253/.307/.395 slash line with five home runs, 28 steals, 19 RBI, 38 runs scored, 13 doubles and a triple through 251 plate appearances. Hamilton will need to find more consistency at the plate to avoid ceding more work to Nick Sogard or Romy Gonzalez.

Jarren Duran LF | BOS
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Fills stat sheet Sunday
Duran went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI double, a walk and two stolen bases in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Rangers.
Duran seems to enjoy hitting at Globe Life Field -- he went 6-for-14 during the three-game series there this weekend. Since July 13, the outfielder has 11 multi-hit efforts over 17 contests, batting .403 (31-for-77) with 16 extra-base hits in that span. He's developed into a well-rounded leadoff hitter this year, posting a .296/.355/.515 slash line with 14 homers, 13 triples, 34 doubles, 26 steals, 55 RBI and 78 runs scored over 110 contests.

Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS
Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Two homers in Sunday's win
Abreu went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Rangers.
Abreu tied the game with a solo shot in the fourth inning and then put Boston ahead by four with his three-run blast in the sixth. He's hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, going 12-for-30 (.400) with four homers and 13 RBI in that span. The outfielder is up to a .275/.337/.519 slash line with 12 homers, 42 RBI, 46 runs scored, seven stolen bases and 24 doubles across 84 contests this year while filling a strong-side platoon role in right field.

Nick Pivetta SP | SD
Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Can't finish five innings
Pivetta allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out five over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Sunday.
Pivetta wasn't all that sharp, throwing 44 of 70 pitches for strikes in this short outing. It was the second time in his last three starts that he's failed to complete five frames. He's also allowed multiple home runs, including solo shots by Corey Seager and Josh Jung in Sunday's contest, in each of his last three outings. For the season, Pivetta has a 4.44 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 117:23 K:BB through 95.1 innings over 18 starts. His next outing is projected to be at home versus the Astros.

Riley Greene LF | DET
Tigers' Riley Greene: Takes BP, but not fully running
Greene (hamstring) took live batting practice Saturday against right-hander Casey Mize (hamstring), but the outfielder has yet to resume full running, MLB.com reports.
Though Greene checked out fine after taking swings against Mize, being able to run the bases and move laterally in the outfield without issue remains a major obstacle he'll need to clear in his recovery from a right hamstring strain before he'll be able to play in simulated games and/or head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Based on where he currently stands in his recovery, Greene wouldn't seem to be a realistic option to return from the 10-day injured list during the upcoming week.

Bryan Sammons RP | DET
Tigers' Bryan Sammons: Makes brief relief appearance
Sammons retired all four batters he faced out of the bullpen in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Royals in 11 innings.
After tossing 7.1 innings in bulk relief in his MLB debut July 29 versus the Guardians, Sammons seemed poised to fill one of the three open spots in the Detroit rotation this week. The Tigers instead chose to deploy him in a more traditional relief role in his next appearance, as Sammons entered Saturday's contest in the top of the eighth with two outs and runners on first and second. Sammons induced a flyout to get out of the jam, then tossed a clean ninth inning to help send the game to extras.

Kenta Maeda SP | NYY
Tigers' Kenta Maeda: Working way back into rotation
Maeda covered 3.2 innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Royals in 11 innings. He gave up three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four.
Maeda has now made each of his last four appearances out of the bullpen, submitting a 4.40 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 14:1 K:BB in 14.1 innings during that stretch. The Tigers shifted the veteran right-hander to a relief role after he struggled to a 7.26 ERA through 15 starts, but manager A.J. Hinch suggested Friday that Maeda will eventually rejoin the rotation, per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Maeda is essentially stretched out for a starter's workload at this point; he tossed 69 pitches behind opening pitcher Tyler Holton in Saturday's contest.

Michael Wacha SP | KC
Royals' Michael Wacha: Turns in quality start
Wacha did not factor into the decision after allowing two runs on seven hits and four walks over six innings against the Tigers on Sunday. He struck out two batters in the win.
Wacha struggled with his command and threw only 58 of 99 pitches for strikes. The four walks were the second most he's issued in a start this season behind only his May 9 outing against the Angels. Since the beginning of July, Wacha has produced four quality starts in six outings, going 4-0 with a 2.78 ERA in the process. For the year, his ERA sits at 3.55 with a 93:35 K:BB through 20 starts. Wacha's next outing is projected to be at home against the Cardinals.
