  • Chase Silseth RP | TEX

Angels' Chase Silseth: Out for rest of season

Silseth underwent season-ending surgery on his right elbow Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The specifics of Silseth's operation are unknown, but he didn't receive Tommy John surgery and is expected to be fully recovered by the time spring training begins. The 24-year-old righty allowed six earned runs in eight innings over two big-league starts this year, and he'll finish with a 6.35 ERA through 28.1 frames in Triple-A.

  • Albert Suarez RP | BAL

Orioles' Albert Suarez: Starting Tuesday in Toronto

Suarez will start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The right-hander was shifted to the bullpen last week after Baltimore acquired Trevor Rogers ahead of the trade deadline, but Grayson Rodriguez (undisclosed) was a late scratch from his start Tuesday. Suarez allowed three runs over 1.2 innings Thursday at Cleveland, so he'll be taking the mound Tuesday on a normal starter's schedule.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Tigers' Gio Urshela: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Urshela isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Tuesday's game against Seattle.

Urshela will get a day to regroup Tuesday after going just 3-for-27 with two RBI over his last 10 games. Zach McKinstry will start at the hot corner instead and bat eighth.

  • Jake Rogers C | CHW

    Tigers' Jake Rogers: Idle Tuesday

Rogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.

Rogers will sit down for a second consecutive game Tuesday after going 0-for-16 with nine strikeouts over his last five games. Dillon Dingler will get the starting nod behind home plate instead and bat seventh.

  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Nearing rehab assignment

Verlander (neck) will likely begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land over the weekend, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Verlander will first need to get through a bullpen session Wednesday, but he'll be cleared to head to the minors if everything goes smoothly. The veteran righty built up to 37 pitches during his simulated game Sunday and will likely require multiple Triple-A outings before returning to Houston's rotation.

  • Dahian Santos SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Dahian Santos: Healthy again at Double-A

Santos (elbow) has struck out 16 batters while allowing two unearned runs on two hits and nine walks over 10.1 innings across his five appearances with Double-A New Hampshire since being reinstated from the 60-day injured list July 9.

Santos opened the season on High-A Vancouver's IL while recovering from an elbow injury, but he never appeared in a game for the affiliate before advancing to Double-A once he completed a five-outing rehab assignment between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A Dunedin. The 21-year-old has been making bats miss at a steady clip at Double-A, but he'll need to rein in the free passes if he's to earn high-leverage work out of the bullpen once he eventually reaches the big leagues.

  • Luis Rengifo LF | SD

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Out for season

Rengifo underwent season-ending surgery on his wrist Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rengifo landed on the injured list Saturday due to right wrist inflammation -- the second time this season his wrist has caused him to spend time on the IL. The timing of his procedure will put an early end to his 2024 campaign, but he is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year. He'll finish with a .300/.347/.417 slash line with six homers, 30 RBI and 24 steals across 78 games.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Battling back stiffness

Manager Rocco Baldelli said Buxton, who is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs, is dealing with lower-back stiffness, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

The Twins announced that Buxton was medically cleared after being removed from Sunday's game following a collision with the outfield wall, but the back stiffness is keeping him out of the lineup Tuesday for the second straight day. It remains to be seen if the 30-year-old is ready to go for Wednesday's series finale in Chicago, though Baldelli expressed confidence Buxton will be available for Friday's doubleheader versus Cleveland.

  • Leody Taveras CF | BAL

Rangers' Leody Taveras: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Taveras is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

The 25-year-old homered in back-to-back games versus the Red Sox over the weekend but went 0-for-4 in the past two games and has a .602 OPS since July 25. Wyatt Langford will shift to center field while Josh Smith starts in left with Taveras on the bench.

  • White Sox's Dominic Fletcher: Not starting Tuesday

Fletcher isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics.

Fletcher will be missing his third consecutive start after going 3-for-11 in five games since returning to the majors. Gavin Sheets will fill the opening in right field while Lenyn Sosa serves as Chicago's DH, moving Brooks Baldwin into second base with Nicky Lopez at shortstop.
