  • Tyler O'Neill RF | BAL

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Lands on injured list

The Red Sox placed O'Neill (illness) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to an infection in his lower left leg, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

The 29-year-old hasn't seen the field since Aug. 2 due to a stomach virus, but he'll now require a stint on the injured list due to a leg infection. O'Neill will be eligible to return during the middle of next week, and the Red Sox expect him to be available at that point.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

Orioles' Eloy Jimenez: Pushing for everyday role

Jimenez will start at designated hitter and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Jimenez was widely expected to fill the short side platoon of a platoon at DH when the Orioles acquired him from the White Sox on July 30, but the 27-year-old appears to have pushed his way into a near-everyday role, at least while he's swinging a hot bat. He'll be picking up his fourth consecutive start -- including his third in a row against a right-hander (Bowden Francis) -- after going 6-for-12 with a double and two RBI to begin his tenure with the Orioles. Meanwhile, the lefty-hitting Cedric Mullins will head to the bench for the second game in a row.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Diagnosed with strain

Manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday that Rodriguez has been diagnosed with a mild right lat strain, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Rodriguez was placed on the injured list earlier Wednesday due to what was labeled as "discomfort," but the team has now confirmed the right-hander suffered a strain following an MRI. Hyde added that he is optimistic about Rodriguez returning to the rotation relatively quickly, though the 24-year-old remains without an official timeline. Albert Suarez, who started in Rodriguez's place Tuesday against the Blue Jays, is the most likely option to fill the void in the Orioles rotation.

  • David Hamilton 3B | MIL

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Out versus southpaw

Hamilton is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

The left-handed-hitting Hamilton will defer to the right-handed-hitting Romy Gonzalez at second base as the Royals send southpaw Cole Ragans to the hill. Hamilton will take a seat for the Red Sox's sixth straight matchup with a lefty.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Taking seat Wednesday

Smith is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Kansas City, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

With southpaw Cole Ragans on the bump for the Royals, the left-handed-hitting Smith will take a seat. Connor Wong will get a start at first base in place of Smith.

  • Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Out against left-hander

Abreu is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Kansas City, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

A tough lefty in Cole Ragans is toeing the slab for the Royals, so the lefty-hitting Abreu will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Rob Refsnyder will cover right field and bat second for the Red Sox.

  • Tyler O'Neill RF | BAL

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Remains out of lineup

O'Neill (illness) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Kansas City, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

A stomach virus has now caused O'Neill to miss five consecutive starts. The Red Sox have a scheduled off day, so O'Neill will look to return to action when the club returns home to Boston this weekend to host the Astros. Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela and Rob Refsnyder will patrol the outfield for the Red Sox on Wednesday.

  • Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Sitting against righty again

Mullins is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Toronto, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Orioles are facing right-hander Bowden Francis, and this marks the second straight day the left-handed-hitting Mullins has been on the bench versus a righty. Once again, Baltimore is going with Colton Cowser in center field, Anthony Santander in right field, Ryan O'Hearn in left field and Eloy Jimenez at designated hitter.

  • Albert Suarez RP | BAL

Orioles' Albert Suarez: Expected to rejoin rotation

Orioles general manager Mike Elias confirmed Wednesday that Suarez is the favorite to take Grayson Rodriguez's (lat) spot in the rotation, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Elias stopped short of saying it would definitely be Suarez, adding that the staff would need to discuss its options first, but all signs point to Suarez being the choice while Rodriguez heals from his lat/teres discomfort. Suarez was shifted to the bullpen after the Orioles acquired Zach Eflin and Trevor Rogers at the trade deadline, but he went five scoreless frames in an emergency start in place of Rodriguez on Tuesday versus the Blue Jays. The righty is lined up to face the Rays on the road Sunday.

  • Matt Brash RP | SEA

Mariners' Matt Brash: Feeling upbeat in recovery

Brash, who underwent season-ending elbow surgery May 8, has been with the Mariners during their current homestand and is set to begin playing catch in Arizona next week, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Brash has been taking a brief respite from rehabilitation activities and reconnecting with the big-league staff and teammates, but he'll be heading to Arizona for what will be a closely monitored start to his throwing program. Brash has already been engaged in one-handed pitch-and-catch plyometric exercises on a trampoline, and he reports being very pleased with the pace of the early stages of his recovery and the way he's felt while carrying it out. Due to the fact Brash had an internal brace procedure instead of a full Tommy John surgery, his recovery isn't expected to take much more than 12 months, leaving him with a chance to be back in action by June 2025.
