  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Sent to IL with back injury

The Angels placed Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list Monday with low-back inflammation. Rodriguez was forced to depart Sunday start against the Rays in the third inning due to the injury. While the injury does not appear to be overly serious, Rodriguez will be forced to miss at least a couple turns in the Angels' rotation. He's posted an 8.06 ERA in six starts this season.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Dealing with back issue

Rodriguez exited Sunday's contest against Tampa Bay in the third frame due to lower-back tightness, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez appeared to be dealing with a great level of discomfort after plunking Cedric Mullins with a changeup with one out in the top of the third, and it is now understood to be the result of back tightness. He finished his day having tossed 2.1 innings, allowing two runs, both of which scored after his departure, on three hits and two walks while striking out one. The 26-year-old was making his sixth start of the season, and it's unclear if his next projected outing against the Athletics on Thursday is in danger.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Exits early Sunday

Rodriguez (undisclosed) exited Sunday's start against the Rays in the third inning, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Rodriguez hit Cedric Mullins with an 83 mph changeup with one out in the top of the third frame, and he immediately started grimacing. The Angels promptly removed him from the contest, and it's unclear what injury the right-handed pitcher may be dealing with. More information on Rodriguez's status will likely be provided in the near future.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Bounces back with solid start

Rodriguez allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Monday. Rodriguez was pummeled in his previous start, giving up eight runs (seven earned) over 3.2 innings against Colorado. It was thus promising to see the right-hander respond with a much better performance Monday, as he racked up a season-high six punchouts while giving up an acceptable two earned runs. Rodriguez took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning, but he appeared to run out of steam in that frame, as he gave up three doubles and two runs before departing with one out. Two very poor outings through five starts have Rodriguez at an ugly 8.10 ERA on the campaign, but he'll try to build some positive momentum in his next appearance, which is lined up to be a home matchup against Tampa Bay.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Tames Tigers in victory

Rodriguez (2-1) earned the win over Detroit on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five batters over five innings. Rodriguez allowed a second-inning solo homer to Wenceel Perez, but that was the only run the Tigers managed against him. In fact, Rodriguez yielded just one other hit -- a first-inning single -- and retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced following the long ball. This was easily the left-hander's best outing since making his season debut May 17, as he gave up 11 runs across 9.1 frames over his other two starts. Rodriguez will look to build upon Thursday's performance next time he takes the mound, which lines up to be at home versus Colorado early next week.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Does enough to earn win

Rodriguez (1-1) earned the win Friday against the Rangers after allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out five. Rodriguez was roughed up in his first start of the season, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against the Dodgers on May 17, and this qualifies as a bounce-back performance even if he was far from dominant. With 11 earned runs allowed and a 9:6 K:BB through his first 9.1 innings of the campaign, it's risky to trust Rodriguez as a streamer right now. His next start should come on the road against a slumping Tigers offense that ranks dead last in collective OPS since the beginning of May (.598).

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Activated for 2026 debut

The Angels reinstated Rodrigez (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Dodgers. The Angels acquired Rodriguez from the Orioles during the offseason and he opened the campaign on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The 26-year-old last pitched in the big leagues in 2024 due to multiple arm issues, but he's ready to make his Halos debut after making two minor-league rehab starts. Rodriguez threw 94 pitches across 4.2 innings during his last rehab outing, so he shouldn't face significant workload limitations.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Will make 2026 debut Sunday

The Angels announced Friday that Rodriguez (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Rodriguez will be making his first big-league appearance since July 31, 2024, with multiple arm injuries keeping him on the shelf for nearly two years. He missed the first month and a half of the 2026 campaign while recovering from right shoulder inflammation, which he suffered at the end of spring training. Rodriguez made two rehab starts, allowing three runs on 12 hits and two walks with 18 strikeouts across 9.2 innings. The righty built up to 94 pitches in his most recent outing with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga last weekend, so he shouldn't be too limited from a workload standpoint in his Angels debut.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Candidate to start Sunday

Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said Wednesday that Rodriguez (shoulder) is a candidate to start Sunday's game versus the Dodgers, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Rodriguez pitched well in a rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, striking out 11 over 4.2 innings while yielding two runs. He got his pitch count up to 94 in the outing, so the righty is sufficiently stretched out. Rodriguez has been out all season with right shoulder inflammation and has not made an appearance at the major-league level since 2024 due to multiple arm injuries. He was acquired from the Orioles in November in exchange for Taylor Ward.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Sharp in first rehab start

Rodriguez (shoulder) tossed 4.2 innings in a rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters. Though Rodriguez was pulled before the end of the fifth frame, he took on a hefty workload of 94 pitches. The righty's pitch count was inflated in part because opposing batters had a hard time putting the ball in play. Rodriguez did hit a batter and uncork a wild pitch in addition to his two walks, but he was mostly sharp, throwing 63 strikes. Given his strong outing and his ability to approach 100 pitches, Rodriguez may not need many more rehab appearances before he's ready to join the Angels' rotation.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Set for five innings in ACL

Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled to throw up to five innings during a rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez continues to bump up his workload, as his previous throwing sessions consisted of three and then four simulated innings. The right-hander has yet to make his Angels debut because he landed on the IL with right shoulder inflammation in late March, but the fact that he's now beginning a proper rehab assignment could put him on track for a return from the shelf within the next couple of weeks.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Scheduled for bullpen Saturday

Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Rodriguez opened the season on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation. He has steadily increased his throwing distance off flat ground, but Saturday will mark his first throwing session on the mound. Rodriguez will likely need to throw multiple bullpen sessions before being cleared to embark on a rehab assignment.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Could throw from mound within week

Rodriguez (shoulder) said Tuesday that he hopes to begin throwing from a mound within the next week, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez has been dealing with right shoulder inflammation and "dead arm" since mid-March. He's been throwing up to 150 feet and stated Tuesday that he thinks he'll be ready to toss a bullpen session within the next week. Even if he's able to do so, the right-handed hurler is probably still multiple weeks away from a return, but he does seem to be making progress. "The arm is definitely getting strong quick," Rodriguez said Tuesday. "When I feel like I'm ready to throw the ball as hard as I want to throw it, that'll let me know. But with how I've been progressing the last week to two weeks, it's really given me a lot of confidence."

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Plays down injury concern

Rodriguez (arm) played light catch Friday and said he doesn't consider his injury serious, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Rodriguez is taking a cautious approach in his recovery from a dead arm, but that's due to his injury history rather than the severity of the current issue, as the right-hander called the injury "not serious." Still, it's unclear if Rodriguez will have to open the regular season on the injured list.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Managing arm soreness

Manager Kurt Suzuki said Thursday that Rodriguez is dealing with a dead arm, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez played catch Thursday despite his injury, so it doesn't seem like the Angels are concerned enough to warrant completely shutting the right-hander down just yet. That being said, his status for Opening Day is unclear, and he could be placed on the IL to begin the season if he doesn't begin to feel better within the next several days.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Fires 4.2 scoreless spring frames

Rodriguez allowed two hits and walked four batters while striking out five over 4.2 scoreless innings in a Cactus League start against Cleveland on Friday. Rodriguez was a bit wild in issuing four free passes, but he kept the Guardians out of the score column thanks in part to a pair of double plays. Promisingly, he worked up to 85 pitches, and though his fastball velocity was a bit below its established norm at 94.3 mph, it's worth noting that the right-hander is still working his way back into full form after not pitching in any games beyond spring training last season. Rodriguez hasn't dropped jaws this spring, but he's looked healthy and has posted a tolerable 4.97 ERA with 12 punchouts (albeit alongside 10 walks) over 12.2 frames, so he looks to be headed toward a spot in the Angels' Opening Day rotation.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Mixed results in spring debut

Rodriguez completed 1.2 innings in a Cactus League contest against San Francisco on Tuesday, allowing one run on one hit and three walks while striking out two batters. Rodriguez missed all of the 2025 regular season due to injuries to his elbow and lat, so this was his first game action since spring training of last year. The right-hander gave up just one hit -- a second-inning double -- but struggled to find the plate, tossing only 23 of 40 pitches for strikes and issuing three free passes. The promising news, however, is that Rodriguez appeared to emerge from the outing with no setbacks while handling a normal pitch count for a starter early in spring training. If he can get through the remainder of the preseason healthy, Rodriguez will likely begin the campaign in the Angels' starting rotation.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Expects to have normal offseason

Rodriguez (elbow) said Tuesday that he expects to be ready to throw bullpen sessions "in about a month-and-a-half to two months," Foul Territory TV reports. Rodriguez is scheduled to undergo right elbow debridement surgery early next week, and it's possible the timeline for his throwing program will change based on how the operation goes. However, it sounds like the right-hander should have a relatively normal offseason if everything goes as planned. Rodriguez will remain a health risk heading into the 2026 season after missing all of 2025 and most of the second half of 2024 with arm problems.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Surgery being considered

GM Mike Elias said Wednesday that a medical plan for Rodriguez (elbow/lat) is being finalized, with surgery being a possibility, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Possible surgery is a worrying development for Rodriguez, though it's encouraging that the procedure would be to remove some bone rather than a UCL issue. The right-hander has been on the injured list all season due to elbow and lat injuries, and surgery would prevent him from pitching at all in 2025. However, Rodriguez should have enough time to get healthy for next spring.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Seeking opinions on injured elbow

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Tuesday that Rodriguez is receiving multiple opinions on his injured right elbow, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Rodriguez was sent for imaging on the elbow more than a week ago, but a decision on his next steps haven't been made because the Orioles are being thorough in his evaluation. The right-hander has been shelved all season with lat and elbow issues and has been shut down since suffering a setback with his elbow earlier this month.
