Ben Rice DH | NYY
Yankees' Ben Rice: Idle vs. lefty
Rice is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the White Sox.
With White Sox southpaw Ky Bush taking the mound Monday, the lefty-hitting Rice will sit for the fifth time in the past six games. DJ LeMahieu will start at first base and bat ninth.

DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Getting regular at-bats vs. lefties
LeMahieu will start at first base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the White Sox.
LeMahieu will remain in the lineup for the fourth time in five games, but all four starts have come against left-handed pitching. The Yankees are seemingly viewing LeMahieu as a short-side platoon player these days with left-handed hitters Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm holding down the fort at the two corner-infield spots.

Will Wagner DH | SD
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Added to major-league roster
The Blue Jays selected Wagner's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.
One of the players acquired from the Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi trade, the 26-year-old Wagner has slashed .315/.432/.444 with six home runs and three stolen bases over 77 games at the Triple-A level in 2024. The left-handed hitting utility player should see regular playing time at least against right-handed pitching, likely bouncing around between second base, third base and first base.

Mauricio Dubon LF | ATL
Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Back on bench Monday
Dubon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.
Dubon will head back to the bench after he had picked up starts in three of the past four games. The Astros have a couple openings in their everyday lineup, but Dubon hasn't yet done enough to fully gain traction in a regular starting role. Since the All-Star break, Dubon is slashing just .122/.163/.268 while striking out at a 25 percent clip.

Zach Dezenzo LF | HOU
Astros' Zach Dezenzo: On bench Monday
Dezenzo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.
For the first time since getting his first big-league call-up last Tuesday, Dezenzo will hit the bench. He had started at first base or designated hitter in each of the previous five contests, going 5-for-21 with a solo home run, a double and a walk. The Astros are expected to continue giving Dezenzo a look in a near-everyday role, but he'll need to keep hitting to build up some job security.

Cooper Criswell RP | SEA
Red Sox's Cooper Criswell: Could need more than seven days
Criswell (illness) might not be ready for activation Friday, when he's first eligible to return from his seven-day stay on the COVID-19 injured list, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Criswell has dealt with some significant symptoms while on the COVID-19 IL, and while the Red Sox are hopeful that he can start Friday in Baltimore in place of James Paxton (calf), he sounds like he might need a bit more time to recover. Josh Winckowski would be a candidate to take the ball for Boston on Friday if Criswell isn't ready.

Jose Miranda 3B | MIN
Twins' Jose Miranda: Taking seat Monday
Miranda is not in the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Royals.
Miranda has struggled since returning from the injured list late last month, slashing only .200/.238/.275 in 12 games. Carlos Santana and Royce Lewis will occupy the corner-infield spots for the Twins on Monday, and Matt Wallner will start at designated hitter.

Jamie Westbrook 2B | TB
Red Sox's Jamie Westbrook: Loses 40-man roster spot
The Red Sox designated Westbrook for assignment Monday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Westbrook is the 40-man roster casualty with the Red Sox needing to clear some space in advance of Monday's game against the Rangers. The 29-year-old utility player went just 6-for-40 at the plate during his time with the Red Sox before being sent back to Triple-A Worcester on July 31.

Brad Keller RP | PHI
Red Sox's Brad Keller: Dispatched to Triple-A
The Red Sox optioned Keller to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Keller made one extended relief appearance during his most recent stint in the majors, allowing three runs over four frames and taking a loss against the Astros on Saturday. He will likely re-enter Worcester's rotation.
