  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Throwing again

Horn (elbow) began a throwing progression May 14, MLB.com reports. Horn received a cortisone shot in mid-April to combat discomfort in his left elbow, which he had scoped during the offseason. The injection appears to have done its job, but Horn could be ramped up slowly in his throwing program after the Tigers pulled him off his rehab assignment earlier this season. He'll eventually head back out on another rehab assignment and may need most of the 30-day window before Detroit brings him back from the 60-day injured list.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Tigers transferred Horn (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday. Horn is coming back from offseason arthroscopic left elbow surgery and was pulled off his rehab assignment last week after incurring a setback. Per MLB.com, Horn recently received a cortisone injection in his elbow, so he'll presumably be shut down from throwing for at least a few days while he waits for the shot to take full effect. The reliever could eventually resume his rehab assignment within the next few weeks, but he won't be eligible for activation until late May.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Suffers setback

The Tigers paused Horn's (elbow) rehab assignment Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Horn has been working his way back from arthroscopic surgery he underwent on his left elbow in the offseason and has made two rehab appearances with Detroit's Single-A affiliate, but he appears to have suffered a setback. An updated timeline for his return may emerge after he undergoes further evaluation.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Beginning rehab assignment

Horn (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Single-A Lakeland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Horn missed the entirety of spring training while working his way back from an elbow procedure he underwent in the offseason, so he'll likely require an extended stay in the minors before coming off the injured list. Once healthy, the 28-year-old may take a middle-relief role with the big club after posting a 1.59 ERA over 11.1 frames with the Tigers last season.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Moves to injured list

The Tigers placed Horn (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Horn underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow during the offseason and continues to work through his rehab program. The left-hander has been throwing bullpen sessions but will likely require a handful of rehab appearances after missing spring training.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Tosses side session

Horn (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Horn underwent a left elbow scope during the offseason and is still working his way back into game shape. He's been throwing for multiple weeks and appears to be nearing game action. The left-hander pitched in 10 games out of the bullpen for Detroit last season, logging a 1.59 ERA, though his FIP was much higher at 4.37. He struck out 10 and walked seven across 11.1 innings.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: In midst of throwing program

The Tigers announced Sunday that Horn (elbow) is scheduled to play catch five times during the upcoming week, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Horn is throwing again after undergoing a left elbow arthroscopy during the offseason, but he'll still some time away from getting the green light to pitch in Grapefruit League games. The left-hander still has a minor-league option remaining, so even if he's healthy by the time camp concludes, he'll be sent to Triple-A Toledo if there's no room for him in the big-league bullpen.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Back in Toledo

The Tigers optioned Horn to Triple-A Toledo on Friday. Horn has given up just one run in 5.1 innings since joining the big-league squad Sept. 2, lowering his ERA in the majors to 1.59 through 11.1 frames. Despite his strong performance, he'll be pushed back to the minor leagues by Kyle Finnegan (groin), who returned from the injured list Friday.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Tosses scoreless inning Friday

Horn worked around two walks to toss a scoreless inning of relief in Friday's 7-0 win over the Twins. Horn was tasked with working the ninth inning, but with the Tigers up 7-0, it wasn't really a high-leverage spot. It was the lefty's first appearance in the majors since July 6. Horn has spent most of the season with Triple-A Toledo, where he's posted a 3.06 ERA and 44 strikeouts across 35.1 innings. He should work in a middle-relief role for Detroit for however long he sticks around, giving the team another left-handed bullpen option behind Tyler Holton and Brant Hurter.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Sticking with Tigers

Horn will remain in the Tigers' bullpen after serving as the team's 27th man during Wednesday's doubleheader. Horn wasn't used in either game of Wednesday's twin bill versus Washington, so the Tigers will gain a fresh bullpen arm by keeping him on the active roster. Tyler Owens will head down to Toledo instead in order to create roster space for Horn.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: On shelf at Triple-A

Triple-A Toledo placed Horn on its 7-day injured list May 24 due to left elbow inflammation, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Horn last pitched for Toledo on May 17 before landing on the shelf a week later, but he may be on the cusp of a return. He began a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday and has given up four runs (three earned) on three hits and one walk over 1.2 innings through his first two appearances.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Recalled from Toledo

The Tigers recalled Horn from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. With John Brebbia (triceps) headed for the injured list, the Tigers will call upon Horn to help replenish the team's bullpen depth. The 27-year-old southpaw logged a 6.50 ERA in 18 innings with the Red Sox last season, and he's off to a similar start through 8.1 frames this year in Triple-A (6.48 ERA, 2.47 WHIP). He'll likely be limited to low-leverage situations while in Detroit.

  • Cardinals' Bailey Horn: Loses 40-man spot

Horn was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Thursday. The 27-year-old southpaw endured a rough spring, allowing four runs on three hits and five walks while striking out one batter over 2.1 innings in the Grapefruit League. Horn will now be subjected to waivers and could attract interest from teams in need of lefty relief help. While he has mostly struggled against big-league competition, Horn put up a 2.15 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 21 appearances with Boston's Triple-A affiliate last season.

  • Cardinals' Bailey Horn: Sent to Triple-A

The Cardinals optioned Horn to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The left-hander was claimed off waivers by St. Louis in January but won't end up making the Opening Day roster. Horn made his MLB debut with the Red Sox last season and had a 6.50 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 13:10 K:BB over 18 innings.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Exits 40-man roster

The Tigers designated Horn for assignment Friday. The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly signed Gleyber Torres. Horn was claimed off waivers by the Tigers in November, and the left-handed reliever will now go through the waiver process again.

  • Tigers' Bailey Horn: Claimed by Tigers

The Tigers claimed Horn off waivers from the Red Sox on Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. The Red Sox attempted to pass Horn through waivers in an effort to clear space on their 40-man roster, but the 26-year-old southpaw will instead head to Detroit and look to carve out a role. He struggled to the tune of a 6.50 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 18 big-league innings in 2024, so he'll most likely report to Triple-A Toledo to begin the new season.

  • Red Sox's Bailey Horn: Sent back to minors

The Red Sox optioned Horn to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. Horn was the appointed 27th man as the Red Sox resumed a suspended game and played a regularly scheduled contest versus the Blue Jays on Monday. He retired the only batter he faced in the nightcap.

  • Red Sox's Bailey Horn: Headed to Boston

The Red Sox acquired Horn from the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for cash, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Horn will recapture a 40-man roster spot as he moves from Chicago to Boston, though he will remain in the minors at Triple-A Worcester. The 26-year-old southpaw has yet to pitch in an MLB game, and his debut doesn't seem on the horizon after allowing 13 runs in 10.1 innings to begin the year with Chicago's Triple-A affiliate.
