Yoshida (shoulder) said Tuesday that he received a cortisone shot a few days ago and will remain shut down from throwing for three more days, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Yoshida's throwing has not gone as well as hoped as he comes back from right shoulder surgery, as he still feels pain when tossing from 120 feet. He is able to hit without issue, but the Red Sox don't want to return him to the active roster until he's capable of playing the outfield. Yoshida is currently on the 10-day injured list, but with his return nowhere in sight, he's a candidate to be moved to the 60-day IL when/if the Red Sox need to free a spot on the 40-man roster.

Goldschmidt is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

The veteran first baseman started the previous seven games and will receive a day off after going 9-for-29 with two homers, seven RBI and seven runs during that span. After posting a career-worst .716 OPS last season, Goldschmidt has enjoyed a resurgence so far in 2025 with a .353/.400/.481 slash line through 35 games.

The Mariners designated Castillo for assignment Tuesday.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Leody Taveras. Castillo has posted a 7.71 ERA, 2.71 WHIP and 5:7 K:BB across seven innings (two starts) this season during his time in the majors.

The Rangers recalled Carter from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.

A move that was reported to be in the works Monday has now been made official. Carter rebounded from a slow start with Round Rock to slash .271/.327/.500 with two home runs and three stolen bases across his last 12 contests. He is starting in center field and batting seventh for the Rangers on Tuesday in Boston and should take over as the team's primary center fielder, at least against right-handers.

The Mariners claimed Taveras off waivers from the Rangers on Tuesday.

Seattle will be responsible for the remainder of the $4.75 million Taveras is owed in 2025, and it will retain control of the outfielder through the 2027 season. Taveras has slashed only .241/.259/.342 for Texas this season and has a career OPS of .661, but the switch-hitting 26-year-old is a viable depth option for a team that has Victor Robles (shoulder) and Luke Raley (oblique) on the injured list and Randy Arozarena (hamstring) banged up. Taveras could see ample playing time in right field for the Mariners.

Larnach will start in right field and bat eighth in Tuesday's game versus the Orioles.

Larnach was not in the initial lineup but has been added after Harrison Bader was scratched. The left-handed-hitting Larnach has started four of six games versus lefties this season and every contest against righties.

Celesten is hitting .333 with two home runs, six steals and a 16.3 percent strikeout rate in 22 games for Single-A Modesto.

Celesten and Sebastian Walcott of the Rangers were the top two shortstops in the 2023 international signing class, but injuries early in Celesten's career led to him falling behind. This year marks his first exposure to full-season pitching, and while his 26.0 percent hard-hit rate isn't amazing, he should have no trouble growing into plus power, and his 81.7 percent contact rate is a very strong mark for a 19-year-old with his tools.

Larnach is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Orioles.

The left-handed-hitting Larnach plays against most lefties, but he will grab a seat in this one as the Orioles send southpaw Cade Povich to the bump. Willi Castro is in right field and Royce Lewis is at designated hitter for the Twins.

Lewis will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

It's the season debut for Lewis, who was shelved for nearly six weeks with a strained left hamstring. Lewis is likely to play third base primarily, but he's in the DH spot Tuesday and could be there on occasion as the Twins ease him back into action. Jonah Bride is playing third base for the Twins in the series opener.

The Mariners optioned Taylor to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old had his contract selected from Tacoma last Tuesday, and he went 1-for-8 with a run in four games during his week in the majors. Taylor is returning to Triple-A since Dylan Moore (hip) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.
