Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that McClanahan (triceps) played catch from 100-plus feet last week, and the pitcher "says it's the best he's felt," Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

McClanahan was shut down for a bit due to ongoing issues with his nerve-related triceps injury, but Cash seemed to offer a much more optimistic tone Monday when discussing the pitcher's progress. The southpaw will visit with Dr. Gregory J. Pearl, a nerve specialist, in Texas on Tuesday, and the Rays could provide more information regarding McClanahan's long-term outlook following that exam.

The Athletics optioned Holman to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

Holman hadn't pitched since last Wednesday, when he was dinged for three runs without recording an out. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for the return of J.T. Ginn (quadriceps) from the 15-day injured list.

The Athletics activated Ginn (quad) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Ginn missed almost a month of action with a strained quad. The Athletics have not revealed whether Ginn will rejoin the rotation or be used in the bullpen. The club has not announced starters beyond the firs game Monday of its four-game set against the Astros, so Ginn could theoretically slot into the rotation any of those days.

Urias is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Astros on Monday.

Urias will begin Monday's game on the bench while Max Schuemann starts at the keystone and bats ninth. Urias has reached base safely in nine consecutive games, and over that span he has gone 8-for-31 (.258) with one steal, five runs scored, one home run and two RBI.

Wynns is absent from the Athletics' starting lineup against the Astros on Monday.

Willie MacIver will serve behind home plate and bat eighth in Monday's series opener. Wynns went 2-for-8 with two home runs and three RBI over his last two starts.

Clarke is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Astros on Monday.

Clarke will take a seat for Monday's series opener after going 3-for-12 with one run scored during the A's weekend series against the Royals. JJ Bleday will start in center field and bat seventh.

The Mariners optioned Kowar to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

The transaction frees a spot on the active roster for the return of right-hander Logan Gilbert (elbow) from the injured list. Kowar made seven appearances after being activated from the 60-day injured list late last month, yielding two runs with an 8:3 K:BB over 8.2 frames.

The Mariners activated Gilbert (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

He's set to make his long-awaited return to the Mariners' rotation Monday versus the Red Sox after missing nearly two months of action with a flexor strain. Gilbert threw 72 pitches across five scoreless innings during his final rehab start, so he should face only minor workload restrictions in his first outing back with the big club.

Campbell will serve as the designated hitter and bat ninth against the Mariners on Monday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

The Red Sox will be experimenting with their lineup after trading Rafael Devers to the Giants on Sunday. Campbell will be the first to take on DH duties while David Hamilton starts at second base. Campbell has gone 8-for-37 (.216) with two doubles, one home run and five RBI since the beginning of June.

Misner is not in the Rays' starting lineup against the Orioles on Monday.

Misner will begin Monday's game on the bench while Christopher Morel, Jake Mangum and Josh Lowe start in the outfield from left to right. Misner has struggled at the plate in June, going 5-for-32 (.156) with one steal, one home run, three RBI and a 29.4 percent strikeout rate.
