The Twins recalled Gasper from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday.

Gasper will join the big-league roster to provide Minnesota with depth behind the plate while Ryan Jeffers is on paternity leave. The 29-year-old Gasper owns just a .488 OPS through 39 plate appearances in the majors this season, so Christian Vazquez will likely take over as the Twins' main backstop.

The Twins placed Jeffers on the paternity list Saturday.

Jeffers will be permitted to miss up to three games while he welcomes a new addition to his family. Christian Vazquez figures to start behind the dish while Jeffers is away, and Mickey Gasper will come up from Triple-A to provide a bit of insurance at catcher.

Caglianone was removed from the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians with left hamstring tightness.

After grounding into a double play during the second inning, Caglianone was replaced on defense to begin the third. The severity of his injury remains unknown, though the Royals should offer more information as the 22-year-old continues to be evaluated.

The Tigers designated Hartlieb for assignment Saturday.

After making two appearances with the Tigers and giving up two runs over two innings, Hartlieb will now be cast off the 40-man roster. Luke Jackson, who signed an MLB deal with Detroit on Saturday, will claim the open spot in the bullpen.

The Tigers activated Skubal from the paternity list and deemed him the starter for Saturday's matchup versus Toronto.

Skubal was placed on the paternity list Wednesday, but he was never expected to miss a start. That will indeed be the case, as the All-Star southpaw is slated to take the mound against the Blue Jays on Saturday. The Tigers made a few other moves impacting their pitching staff, signing reliever Luke Jackson and adding him to the 26-man roster while optioning Keider Montero and designating Geoff Hartlieb for assignment.

The 25-year-old righty will be pushed out of the big-league rotation following Tarik Skubal's return from the paternity list. Montero will aim to turn things around in the minors after a poor start to the second half, as he's surrendered 10 runs (nine earned) across just 8.1 innings over his last two starts.

Jackson signed a one-year, major-league contract with the Tigers on Saturday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Jackson was cut loose by the Rangers on Friday after posting a 4.11 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 35 innings with the club. It didn't take very long for the 33-year-old righty to find his next gig, however, and he'll likely begin his tenure with Detroit as a middle reliever for the major-league team.

The Astros optioned Hernandez to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday.

After giving up two earned runs over 2.2 innings during Friday's contest, Hernandez will be sent down to Triple-A for the second time in the last four days. Luis Contreras was recalled from Sugar Land to fill the vacancy in the Astros' bullpen.

Since being moved to the minors in mid-April, Contreras has posted a 3.34 ERA and 1.37 WHIP alongside a 27:19 K:BB through 29.2 innings. He'll now get another shot as a middle reliever for the big-league squad, replacing Nick Hernandez.

The Orioles optioned Jackson to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday.

Jackson will end up back in the minors after spending just 24 hours with the big-league club. The 25-year-old will keep his spot on the 40-man roster, however, and he could return to Baltimore later in the year if he continues to hit the ball well at Norfolk. Yaramil Hiraldo was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
