  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Dazzles against former team

Baz (2-5) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over seven innings in a 6-1 victory over the Rays. He struck out nine. The nine Ks were a season high for the right-hander, who racked up 31 called or swinging strikes among his 99 pitches (69 total strikes). Baz has reeled off three straight quality starts, his first ones in a Baltimore uniform, and over that stretch he's delivered a 2.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB over 20 innings as he shows signs of turning his season around. He'll look to stay locked in for his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Boston.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Strong start wasted Wednesday

Baz didn't factor into the decision Wednesday as the Orioles were downed 5-3 by the Rays, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out six. The right-hander delivered his second straight quality start on 94 pitches (57 strikes), and Baz left the mound in line for his second win of the season, but the Baltimore bullpen couldn't close things out. Baz is still struggling to find the strike zone, however, and he's issued at least three free passes in four straight outings. He'll take a 4.87 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 48:25 K:BB through 57.1 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come at home early next week in a rematch with Tampa Bay.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Stuck with tough loss Friday

Baz (1-5) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over seven innings as the Orioles were downed 3-2 by the Nationals. He struck out four. The right-hander produced his longest outing of the season and his first quality start on 108 pitches (69 strikes), but a lack of run support kept him out of the win column. Control remains Baz's biggest bugaboo, as he's issued at least three free passes in three straight starts and carries a 42:22 K:BB through 51.1 innings to go along with a 5.26 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. He'll try to build on this performance in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in his old Tampa Bay stomping grounds.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Hit hard in fourth loss

Baz (1-4) took the loss Wednesday as the Orioles were downed 6-2 by the A's, coughing up five runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five. Three of the five hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including a three-run blast by Brent Rooker in the third inning that effectively put the game out of reach. Baz has been tagged for at least four earned runs in four of his last five outings, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 6.04 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 25:14 K:BB over 28.1 innings. He'll look to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next weekend against the Nationals.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Knocked around in third loss

Baz (1-3) took the loss Monday against the Yankees, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and five walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out four. The 26-year-old right-hander struggled across the board in a tough matchup Monday. Baz gave up a season-high five earned runs, issued a season-worst five free passes and matched his lowest output in strikeouts of the campaign. Although Baz has tossed at least five frames in each of his first seven starts, he'll bring a rocky 4.99 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB over 39.2 innings into his next scheduled outing against the Athletics.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Finally gets in win column

Baz (1-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over 5.2 innings in the Orioles' 5-3 victory over the Astros. He struck out six. A solo shot by Brice Matthews in the fifth inning was the only blemish on Baz's line, and he got the hook after 98 pitches (65 strikes), just short of his first quality start of the season. The right-hander has provided Baltimore with at least five innings in all six of his trips to the mound, but length has been about the only area of consistency for the former Ray. Baz will take a 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 29:11 K:BB through 34 innings into his next start, which is set to come on the road this weekend in Yankee Stadium.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Labors through traffic Tuesday

Baz did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Royals, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four over 6.1 innings. Baz worked through constant traffic but held things together until the fifth inning, when back-to-back hits led to a run and a sacrifice fly from Vinnie Pasquantino added another. The right-hander managed to push through 6.1 innings -- his longest outing of the season -- but he has now allowed at least six hits in four of his five starts, and the consistent contact against him proved costly. Baz owns a 5.08 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB across 28.1 innings this season and will face a tough test in his next outing against Houston.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Pitches well in no-decision

Baz did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out five. After surrendering four runs during his Orioles debut versus the Twins, Baz kept the Pirates in check most of Saturday afternoon, giving up just two singles, a double and the three free passes. He threw 63 of 98 pitches for strikes and generated 11 whiffs, but he fell an out short of a quality start when he was pulled after serving up a two-out double in the sixth inning. Through his first two starts for Baltimore, Baz has a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB across 11 innings as he remains in search of his first victory.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Escapes with no-decision

Baz did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Twins, allowing four runs on seven hits across 5.1 innings. He struck out four. All of the damage against Baz came in the second inning. The first four batters in the frame reached safely against the right-hander before Tristan Gray cleared the bases with a double. However, the Orioles rallied en route to an eventual 8-6 victory, sparing Baz the loss in his team debut. Baz was traded to Baltimore after posting a 4.87 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 176:64 K:BB across 31 starts (166.1 innings) with Tampa Bay last season. He's currently lined up to face the Pirates on the road in his next outing.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Inks five-year extension

The Orioles signed Baz to a five-year, $68 million contract extension Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Baz was traded to Baltimore this offseason after delivering a 4.87 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP and a 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings in 2025 at Tampa Bay. Now, the talented 26-year-old right-hander has a long-term home with the Orioles, where he'll look to improve upon his 2025 campaign. He's slated to make his season debut Sunday against the Twins.

  • Orioles' Shane Baz: Shipped to Baltimore

The Orioles acquired Baz from the Rays on Friday in exchange for Slater de Brun, Caden Bodine, Michael Forret, Austin Overn and a Competitive Balance Round A pick, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Baz had an up-and-down 2025 campaign in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, finishing with a 4.87 ERA and 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings covering 31 starts. However, he had a 5.90 ERA at hitter-friendly George M. Steinbrenner Field, so he should benefit from a move to Camden Yards. Baz is under team control through 2028.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Stuck with loss in quality start

Baz (8-11) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over six innings as the Rays fell 3-0 to the Guardians. He struck out seven. The right-hander produced his first quality start since July 12 on 92 pitches (62 strikes), but Baz got no run support to remain winless over his last 10 trips to the mound. During that span, he's gone 0-8 with a 6.58 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB over 53.1 innings. Baz will try to get back in the win column in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Mariners.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Thrashed in 10th loss

Baz (8-10) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks in three innings. He struck out three. Baz got off to a disastrous beginning, watching Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton lift three straight home runs in the opening inning, and things didn't get better for the hurler thereafter. The right-hander served up a career-high five homers Tuesday, and he threw a season-low three innings as well as 65 pitches before his night came to a close. Baz has a 6.85 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 57:17 K:BB across 47.1 innings since the beginning of July; therefore, he'll be tough to trust in next week's scheduled start in Cleveland.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: No help in loss

Baz (8-9) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Athletics. Baz had his longest start since he went seven innings July 1. The right-hander didn't get any help Tuesday, nor did he do himself any favors by allowing four or more runs for the fourth time in five starts. He's now at a 4.93 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 140:50 K:BB through 135 innings across 24 starts. He's already exceeded the 118.2 innings he had across all levels in 2024, so it's possible the 26-year-old is wearing down a bit. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Yankees.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Tough sledding in eighth loss

Baz (8-8) took the loss Friday against the Dodgers, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out eight. Baz at least managed to register 16 whiffs and fan eight to salvage what was an otherwise poor outing overall. The eight hits allowed were one shy of a season worst, and the 26-year-old right-hander walked multiple batters in his fifth straight start. Baz's impressive run to open the campaign is becoming a distant memory at this point -- he posted a 2.45 ERA through April 25 -- and he'll carry a mediocre 4.79 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 124:46 K:BB through 124 frames into a scheduled road matchup against the Angels in Anaheim.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Fans five in loss

Baz (8-7) yielded two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Reds. Baz coughed up a pair of runs in the first inning before settling in to finish his outing with four scoreless frames. He's now lost four consecutive starts, registering a 5.90 ERA during that span. Baz generated 15 swinging strikes on 100 total pitches Sunday, including seven with his fastball that averaged 96.8 mph. He now owns a 4.61 ERA with a 116:44 K:BB through 119 frames. Baz's next outing is projected to be at home against the Dodgers.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Clobbered by White Sox

Baz (8-6) conceded eight runs on eight hits and two walks over four innings to take the loss in Monday's contest against the White Sox. He struck out four. Nothing went right for the Tampa Bay right-hander, as he allowed a career-worst eight earned runs in this 87-pitch disaster. Baz did not have his sharpest stuff, managing to generate just six whiffs. The 26-year-old has been prone to implosions this season, with this marking the sixth time he has allowed five or more runs out of 20 total starts. Baz will carry a 4.66 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 111:42 K:BB across 114 total innings into a dangerous matchup at Cincinnati this weekend.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Tosses eight scoreless in win

Baz (8-3) earned the win against the Royals on Thursday, allowing three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over eight scoreless innings. Baz was dominant, throwing 69 of 97 pitches for strikes and retiring 19 straight batters at one point after giving up a leadoff double in the first inning. It marked the longest outing of the 26-year-old's major-league career, and he'll wrap up June with a 4-0 record across five starts. On the season, he sports a 4.37 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 86:35 K:BB over 90.2 innings and is slated for a home matchup with the Athletics next week.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Comes away with second straight win

Baz (7-3) earned the win against the Tigers on Friday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six across 5.1 innings. Baz kept the Tigers off the board through the first two frames before yielding a three-run homer to Riley Greene in the third. Baz was tagged for two more runs in the sixth after being lifted, but he got enough run support to come away with his second straight win. Baz's 4.79 ERA (across 82.2 innings) is seventh highest among qualified starters in the American League this season, but his seven wins are tied for sixth in the AL. He'll look to make it three wins in a row in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Royals.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Works around four walks in win

Baz (6-3) earned the win Sunday against the Mets, yielding three hits and four walks over 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out six. The Tampa Bay right-hander produced his first scoreless outing since April 25 at San Diego en route to securing his fifth quality start. Baz generated a solid 15 whiffs out of his 106 total pitches to mark his third straight outing with five or more Ks. With this effort, the 25-year-old lowered his ERA from 4.97 to 4.54 through 77.1 total frames. Baz lines up to make his next start in next weekend's home series against the Tigers, who rank sixth in total runs scored.
