Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said Monday that Olson has been placed on the 60-day injured list and will miss the rest of the regular season due to a right shoulder strain, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

According to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, the Tigers are still leaving the door open for Olson to return for the postseason, though even if he's back in action by October, the right-hander could be limited to a relief role. Olson wasn't known to be dealing with an injury, but the shoulder strain helps explain why he was uncharacteristically lacking in command during his most recent start Thursday, when he was handed a loss against the Blue Jays after allowing five earned runs on six hits -- including two home runs -- and two walks in 5.2 innings. The Tigers acquired right-hander Chris Paddack from the Twins on Monday, and he'll end up taking over Olson's spot in the rotation.

The Blue Jays transferred Francis (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

Francis suffered a setback earlier this month in his recovery from a right shoulder impingement and remains shut down from throwing. As a result of the transaction, Francis won't be eligible for activation until mid-August, but Toronto hasn't offered up a definitive timetable for his return.

Meadows may have tweaked his quad during the Tigers' 10-4 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday, when he was lifted in the eighth inning after going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. He's eligible for reinstatement Aug. 8, but he'll undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury before the Tigers provide a clearer timeline for his return. Matt Vierling will start in center field in Monday's game against the Diamondbacks and could be the main beneficiary from a playing-time standpoint while Meadows is on the shelf.

The Blue Jays optioned Roden to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Roden's most recent stint with the big club lasted just two days, and he will now return to Buffalo after Will Wagner was reinstated from the restricted list. The rookie sports a .589 OPS over 43 games with the big club this season.

Alvarez (hand) took approximately 50 swings off a tee and faced soft-toss pitching in the batting cage during his most recent workout Friday, MLB.com reports.

The Astros have remained mum on a potential timeline for Alvarez's return from the 60-day injured list, but general manager Dana Brown confirmed Sunday that the slugger is "ramping up his workload" and should soon be ready to face live pitching, per Sean O'Leary of SI.com. Alvarez has been on the IL since May 5 due to a right hand fracture, though inflammation and soreness appears to be the greater concern for the 28-year-old at this point rather than the broken bone.

Pena (rib) returned to Houston to work out with the Astros on Monday and could be activated from the 10-day injured list in the near future, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Pena is back in Houston after he spent the weekend at the Astros' facility in Florida, where he faced off against live pitching. He will report to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday to begin what will likely be a brief minor league rehab assignment, per Chandler Rome of The Athletic. According to Sean O'Leary of SI.com, Houston general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Pena could be activated as soon as Friday, when the Astros will open a three-game series in Boston.

Smith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Taylor Trammell will cover right field in the series opener with Washington while Smith receives what appears to be a routine rest day. Smith had started in each of Houston's last four games, going 1-for-13 with two walks and four strikeouts.

Hummel had started in left field in five of the Astros' last six games, but his opportunities could become more limited moving forward after Houston welcomed Jacob Melton (ankle) back from the injured list Monday. Since getting called up from Triple-A Sugar Land on June 14, Hummel is slashing just .150/.292/.225 with a 27.8 percent strikeout rate in 97 plate appearances for Houston.

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Monday that Bautista is going to be "out a while" after an MRI showed significant swelling in the pitcher's right shoulder, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The silver lining is that Bautista does not have any structural damage. However, with the amount of inflammation in his shoulder, he's looking at an absence that will last weeks, not days. With the Orioles not in playoff contention, it's fair to wonder how much of a contribution, if any, he will make the rest of this season. Seranthony Dominguez is the current favorite to see the bulk of the save chances for Baltimore down the stretch, though he is a possibility to be traded.
