Joey Wendle 2B | ATL
Marlins' Joey Wendle: Returns Friday
Wendle (abdomen) is starting at second base and hitting second Friday against the Nationals.
He made an appearance off the bench Thursday after missing a few days with a minor right core issue. Wendle is hitting .314 with one home run and one steal in 12 games this month. He should play pretty regularly down the stretch while hitting high in the lineup against righties.

Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL
Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Could debut this year
The Rockies hope to get Tovar some experience in the majors before the end of the season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
The aggressive promotions for Tovar may not be at an end, as he just made his Triple-A debut this week and played 66 games at Double-A as a 20-year-old earlier this season. Every move the Rockies have made with Tovar suggests that they plan on him being their primary big-league shortstop for most, if not all, of the 2023 season. He is slashing .313/.381/.537 with 13 home runs and 17 steals in 67 games.

Trevor Story SS | BOS
Red Sox's Trevor Story: Remains out of lineup
Story (heel) isn't starting Friday against the Royals, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
The Red Sox hoped that Story would return to action Friday, but he'll remain out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench if needed, but Christian Arroyo will start at the keystone and bat seventh.

Vaughn Grissom 2B | LAA
Braves' Vaughn Grissom: Absent from Friday's lineup
Grissom isn't starting Friday against Philadelphia.
Grissom served as an everyday player for Atlanta over the last month but will retreat to the bench for the second time in the last three games. The 21-year-old should see decreased playing time down the stretch after Ozzie Albies (foot) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Ehire Adrianza 3B | LAA
Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Placed on injured list
Adrianza was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left quadriceps strain Friday.
Adrianza returned from the injured list in late August but saw minimal playing time while serving as a utility man over the last few weeks. He's dealing with a quad issue that will keep him out for at least a week and a half, and it's possible that he won't have a spot on Atlanta's active roster once he's fully healthy after Ozzie Albies (foot) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU
Astros' Aledmys Diaz: Smacks 11th homer
Diaz went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Thursday against the Athletics.
Diaz entered the lineup with Jose Altuve getting a day of rest, though he doesn't project to have a consistent spot in the lineup for the final few weeks of the season. Nevertheless, Diaz provided the game-winning runs Thursday by hitting his 11th home run of the campaign in the seventh frame. He has drawn two starts since being activated from the injured list Sep. 13, and he's gone 3-for-7 in that limited sample. For the campaign, Diaz has a .256/.306/.419 slash line across 278 plate appearances.

Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Twins' Carlos Correa: On base three times in win
Correa went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Thursday's 3-2 win over Kansas City.
Correa gave Minnesota an early lead with a solo shot off Daniel Lynch in the first inning. He walked twice in his final three plate appearances and has reached base multiple times in six of his past eight contests. Over that stretch, Correa is batting a robust .469 with five home runs and 11 RBI.

Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL
Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Concludes rehab assignment
Tovar (hip/groin) concluded his rehab assignment and was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.
Tovar had been on the injured list since July due to hip and groin issues, but he was on a rehab assignment over the last several weeks. He slashed .314/.383/.542 with 13 home runs, 47 RBI, 39 runs and 17 stolen bases over 66 games at Double-A Hartford to begin the season and will get to test himself against Triple-A competition to close out the year.

Joey Wendle 2B | ATL
Marlins' Joey Wendle: Dealing with sore core
Wendle is out of the lineup Thursday against the Phillies with a "minor right core issue," Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
The specifics of the injury aren't clear, but it's prevented him from playing the last couple days and will limit him to a bench role again Thursday. Wendle is expected back over the weekend, so his absence should not extend much further.
