  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Placed on IL

Wendle was placed on the 10-day injured list with left hamstring tendinitis Thursday, retroactive to Sept. 19, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Wendle was out of the lineup for the last three games due to what manager Don Mattingly described as "bumps and bruises," and the infielder will be forced to miss at least another week after being diagnosed with a hamstring injury. Jordan Groshans and Charles Leblanc should see increased playing time in Wendle's absence. It's not yet clear whether the team expects the 32-year-old to return prior to the end of the regular season.

  • Jose Tena DH | WAS

Guardians' Jose Tena: Promoted to Triple-A

Tena was promoted to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

The 21-year-old middle infielder has spent all season with Double-A Akron, recording a .710 OPS along with 66 RBI. Tena's high strikeout rate -- roughly 25 percent -- continues to be a concern, but if he can find a way to cut his whiffs he may be of use for the big-league club at some point in 2023.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Lands on injured list

Story was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left heel contusion Thursday, retroactive to Sept. 19, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Story has been sidelined with his heel injury for over a week, and he'll miss at least another week after the Red Sox opted to place him on the injured list. While the 29-year-old will be eligible to return as early as Sept. 29, it's possible that he'll be shut down for the remainder of the season since Boston isn't in the playoff picture. Bobby Dalbec was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, and Christian Arroyo should see increased playing time at second base while Story is unavailable.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Still not starting Thursday

Story (heel) isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Story continues to deal with a heel injury that will keep him out of the lineup for an eighth consecutive game, but the Red Sox have chosen to keep him off the injured list for now. Yu Chang will take over at the keystone and bat eighth.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Dealing with lower-body soreness

Crawford is dealing with some leg/knee issues but is available off the bench Thursday in Oakland, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

He tweaked it sliding during last weekend's series in Anaheim. The Mariners are hoping a full day off Thursday will get Crawford right physically, although Divish notes Crawford could be used late as a defensive replacement.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Barrero: Remains out of lineup

Barrero isn't starting Thursday against the Brewers.

Barrero is on the bench for a second consecutive matchup after going 2-for-12 with a run and five strikeouts over his last three games. Kyle Farmer will start at shortstop and bat third.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Heads to bench Thursday

Crawford isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Athletics.

Crawford is getting a day off after he went 0-for-7 over the last two games. Dylan Moore will take his place at shortstop and bat eighth.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Active, not in Thursday's lineup

Tovar was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

He is not in Thursday's lineup but could be available off the bench. Tovar should play pretty regularly down the stretch given the Rockies view him as the shortstop of the future. He hit .316/.384/.537 with 14 home runs and 17 steals in 71 games between Double-A and Triple-A.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Swipes 11th bag

Pena went 1-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored Wednesday against the Rays.

Pena began the productive performance with his 11th stolen base of the season in the first inning before coming around to score. He then led off the eighth frame with a double to tally his second run of the contest. Pena has had at least one hit in five of his last six starts, racking up two homers, five RBI and seven runs scored in that span.

  • Livan Soto SS | BAL

Angels' Livan Soto: Retreats to bench

Soto isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Soto started the last four games and went 3-for-13 with a homer, two runs, two RBI and six strikeouts. Luis Rengifo will take over at shortstop and lead off Thursday.
