  • Ezequiel Duran 2B | TEX

    Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Homers Saturday

Duran went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Athletics.

Duran's two-run shot in the ninth inning provided insurance and allowed manager Bruce Bochy to avoid using closer Will Smith, who's worked a lot this week. It was Duran's fifth homer in 32 games, equaling the number he hit last season over 58 games. He's been starting at shortstop for the injured Corey Seager (hamstring), but the latter played in his third rehab game Saturday and could return as soon as Monday. That means Bochy will have to find a spot for Duran's hot bat, presumably in left field.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Swipes bag in win

Turner went 0-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Rockies.

Turner's 11-game hitting streak came to an end, but he still managed to be productive. The steal was his first since April 19 versus the White Sox, which was also the last time he scored multiple runs in the same game. The shortstop is slashing .256/.307/.402 with four home runs, 10 RBI, five steals and 24 runs scored through 39 contests.

  • Yu Chang SS | TB

Red Sox's Yu Chang: Hits off tee

Chang (wrist) has been hitting off a tee, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Chang underwent surgery on his fractured hamate bone in late April. He's a little over a third of the way into his original six-week timeline, so he still has roughly a month still to go, but it's encouraging to see him swinging already.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Likely to be activated Sunday

Crawford (calf) is likely to come off the injured list before Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Crawford will miss a little over the minimum 10-day minumum after landing on the shelf with a right calf strain May 1. The veteran shortstop likely will handle starting duties against righties, but he hasn't been playing much against southpaws early this year.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Leaves with left foot soreness

Smith left Saturday's game against the Athletics with left foot soreness. X-rays returned negative and he'll continue to be evaluated.

Smith was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and was unable to continue. The outfielder should be considered day-to-day and likely will get a chance to rest for Sunday's series finale against the Athletics.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Heads to bench Saturday

Rojas is not in Saturday's lineup against the Padres, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

After starting the last four games at shortstop, Rojas will head to the bench while Mookie Betts handles the six. Rojas is hitting .250 with one stolen base in 10 games this month.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Athletics' Nick Allen: Three-hit night Friday

Allen went 3-for-5 with a run in a win over the Rangers on Friday.

Allen's multi-hit effort was his first of the season and snapped an 0-for-13 slump that had encompassed his previous five games. The young shortstop has struggled to a .152 average and .378 OPS across 51 big-league plate appearances thus far in 2023 and could be headed back to Triple-A Las Vegas in coming days if Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) is activated from the injured list Sunday as projected.

  • Pablo Reyes RF | SD

Red Sox's Pablo Reyes: Contract purchased from Triple-A

Reyes' contract was officially selected from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Boston acquired Reyes from Oakland for cash Friday and will quickly bring him up to the majors. The 29-year-old journeyman can play anywhere on the diamond, and it's his defensive versatility that likely appealed to Boston more than his offensive skill set. Reyes has a career .238/.307/.361 slash line with six home runs and five steals in 323 MLB plate appearances.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Nabs fourth steal

Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base in a loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

Bogaerts helped generate one of two San Diego runs in the seventh inning, hitting a double to center field, swiping third base and subsequently coming around to score. The shortstop has had a slow start to the month, slashing .139/.244/.194 across nine contests. He began the season with four long balls over his first 12 games but has gone deep just twice in 26 contests since.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Drives in three to spark win

Lindor went 1-for-5 with three RBI in Friday's 3-2 win over the Nationals.

The shortstop accomplished one of the rarest feats in baseball, as he drove in three runs with a bases-loaded single -- with two outs and the count full in the sixth inning, Brandon Nimmo got a fantastic jump off first base and caught CJ Abrams napping after the Nats shortstop received the relay throw from center field. Lindor is finding ways to be productive, but his overall numbers remain a little sluggish. Through 12 games in May, he's slashing .234/.308/.383 with two homers, two steals, five runs and nine RBI.
