  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Rare day off Monday

Witt is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

It's a rare day off for Witt, who had started every game since August 7. Maikel Garcia will slide over to cover shortstop for the Royals, while Nick Loftin will handle third base.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Swipes two bags in win

Edman went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two steals in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.

Batting in his customary ninth spot in the order against a righty, Edman reached base three times to help spark the Cardinals to a win in the series finale. It was Edman's second multi-steal effort in four games, and he has now swiped 22 bags on the season. He's slashing .246/.310/.415 with 12 homers, 41 RBI and 60 runs scored in 386 at-bats over 114 games.

  • Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Gets call to High-A

The Rangers promoted Walcott from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to High-A Hickory on Sunday.

At just 17 years and five months old, Walcott will become the youngest player in the South Atlantic League. Walcott received the green light to bypass an assignment to Single-A Down East after he slashed .273/.325/.524 with seven home runs and nine stolen bases across 157 plate appearances in the ACL.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Giants' Paul DeJong: Playing time trending down

DeJong is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

DeJong is sitting for the third time in four games and has likely seen his brief run as the Giants' primary shortstop come to an end. Brandon Crawford was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, and rookie Casey Schmitt has also shown the ability to play shortstop on days the lefty-hitting Crawford exits the lineup against southpaws.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Heads to bench Sunday

Schmitt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Schmitt had started at third base or shortstop in each of the past eight games, going 6-for-24 with a home run, three doubles and two walks. Though he's swung the bat well of late, Schmitt is likely to fade into more of a part-time role in the San Francisco infield with Brandon Crawford recently returning from the injured list and with J.D. Davis returning to the lineup Saturday after missing one game with a sore hand.

  • Rays' Osleivis Basabe: Losing work to Taylor Walls

Basabe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Basabe is on the bench for a second straight game and appears to have lost hold of the everyday role at shortstop after Taylor Walls was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday. Though Basabe manned shortstop in Friday's 3-2 loss, Walls will pick up a second consecutive start Sunday in place of the rookie. Since he was called up from Triple-A Durham on Aug. 12 to replace Wander Franco (personal) as the Rays' primary option at shortstop, Basabe has slashed .250/.316/.365 with one home run and nine RBI across his first 57 big-league plate appearances.

  • Angels' Andrew Velazquez: Heads back to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Velazquez to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

Velazquez will head back to the minors after the Angels reinstated Matt Thaiss (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. With the Angels summoning fellow infielders Kyren Paris and Michael Stefanic from the minors Friday as their two September call-ups, the team didn't have much of a need to keep Velazquez on hand as a utility man.

  • Ernie Clement 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Extends hitting streak to three

Clement went 1-for-3 with a single and a run scored in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Rockies.

Clement committed two errors in the field, but he was able to produce at the plate once again Saturday after he providing a home run and a triple in Friday's series-opening win. The 27-year-old will receive the starting nod at shortstop and will bat seventh Sunday, but his run as the Blue Jays' primary option at the position could end as soon as next Friday, when Bo Bichette (quadricep) could be ready to return from the 10-day injured list.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Running sprints

Bichette (quadriceps) was spotted running sprints at Coors Field on Sunday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The 25-year-old has been out nearly a week with a strained right quadriceps, and his quick return to running is an encouraging sign for his recovery. Bichette is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list Friday, and manager John Schneider previously indicated the shortstop could be ready to be activated at that point.

  • Alika Williams 2B | ATH

Pirates' Alika Williams: On bench Sunday

Williams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Williams seems to have faded into a part-time role of late, as he'll take a seat for the fourth time in seven games. With Williams on the bench, the Pirates will roll with Liover Peguero and Vinny Capra as their starters in the middle infield.
