  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Earns major-league promotion

The Giants selected Fitzgerald's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.

Fitzgerald will get his first taste of the majors, and he might see a few starts at shortstop as Brandon Crawford (hamstring) heads to the IL and Paul DeJong was handed his release. A fourth-round draft pick of the Giants in 2019, the 26-year-old Fitzgerald had broken out to the tune of a .292/.365/.511 batting line with 22 homers and 32 stolen bases through 121 games this season between Double-A and Triple-A.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Lands on 10-day IL

Crawford was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right hamstring strain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Crawford suffered the injury Wednesday in what could wind up being his final game in a Giants uniform. The 36-year-old impending free agent is eligible to be activated Oct. 1, but that is the last day of the regular season and it's unclear whether he'd be healthy anyway. Marco Luciano and Tyler Fitzgerald have both been brought up from Triple-A Sacramento to cover at shortstop down the stretch. Paul DeJong was given his release.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Two doubles, two RBI in win

Abrams went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 13-3 win over the White Sox. He also drew two walks.

Abrams doubled to lead off the first inning before coming around to score Washington's first of 13 runs on the day. He added another double in the following inning to score Ildemaro Vargas and Jacob Young, giving the shortstop his fifth multi-hit game this month. Abrams has now hit safely in three straight and has drawn 11 walks already this month after recording just two free passes in August.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Three more hits Wednesday

Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Rockies.

After struggling for much of the year, Bogaerts is putting together a massive finish to his first season with the Padres. The shortstop has reeled off six straight multi-hit performances, and through 17 games in September he's batting .471 (32-for-68) with nine doubles, a triple, four homers, five steals, eight RBI and 19 runs. Bogaerts needs just one more home run and two more stolen bases to record his first career 20-20 campaign.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Out again with back issue

Baez (back) remains out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Dodgers.

Baez was scratched Tuesday due to lower-back tightness and needs at least a bit more rest and treatment. Zach McKinstry will play shortstop and bat second for the Tigers on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Exits with tight hamstring

Crawford was removed from Wednesday's game in Arizona due to right hamstring tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Crawford may have tweaked his hamstring on a second-inning groundout, as Paul DeJong took over at shortstop for the Giants before the bottom of the third. This could wind up being a season-ending injury for Crawford even if it proves to be relatively minor, as the Giants only have 10 games left to go and have probably fallen too far back in the NL wild-card standings.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: On bench Wednesday

Edman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers.

Jose Fermin will start at second base and bat seventh for the Cardinals, who were officially eliminated from postseason contention Tuesday. Edman is slashing .242/.304/.274 in 69 plate appearances since the beginning of September.

  • Cameron Eden LF | NYY

Blue Jays' Cam Eden: Added to roster

The Blue Jays selected Eden's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

Eden, 25, has hit .257/.354/.333 with three home runs and 53 stolen bases with Buffalo this season. He's not much of a prospect, but the outfielder has speed to burn and could function as a pinch runner for the Blue Jays down the stretch.

  • Ernie Clement 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Sent down to Triple-A

Clement was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

Cam Eden is coming up to absorb Clement's spot on the Blue Jays' roster. Clement boasts an .885 OPS in 52 plate appearances in the majors this season, but his opportunities have been few and far between.

  • Mason McCoy SS | SD

Blue Jays' Mason McCoy: Designated for assignment

McCoy was designated for assignment Wednesday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

Toronto needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Cam Eden. McCoy was acquired from the Mariners in late July and was hitless in two plate appearances during his brief time in the majors.
