Javier Baez SS | DET
Tigers' Javier Baez: Goes hitless in lineup return
Baez (head) started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Guardians in 10 innings.
Baez rejoined the starting nine Tuesday for the first time since exiting last Friday's 8-2 loss to the Marlins after fouling a ball off his head. The 32-year-old passed all concussion testing following his departure and seemingly avoided any serious injury, as he was used off the bench a day later. Since making his third All-Star appearance in mid-July, Baez is slashing just .210/.219/.298 and appears to have settled back into a part-time role at both shortstop and in center field.

Ryan Ritter SS | COL
Rockies' Ryan Ritter: Taking seat Wednesday
Ritter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
After missing five straight games due to an unspecified issue, Ritter had returned to the lineup to start in both of the Rockies' past two contests. He went hitless with two strikeouts in five at-bats between those games and will now retreat to the bench Wednesday. Orlando Arcia will get the nod at second base in Ritter's stead.

Xander Bogaerts SS | SD
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Could return this weekend
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Tuesday that Bogaerts (foot) took part in workouts at the team's facility in Arizona over the previous two days and could return from the 10-day injured list for this weekend's series in Chicago versus the White Sox, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Bogaerts was involved in a full range of baseball activities, as he did some running, fielded grounders at shortstop and hit against live pitching. Completing a running progression appears to be the final hurdle that Bogaerts will need to clear before being activated, with Shildt noting that the 32-year-old is sprinting at about 80-to-85 percent intensity at this point. Bogaerts has been on the IL since Aug. 29 due to a non-displaced fracture in his left foot.

Taylor Walls SS | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Shifts to 60-day IL
The Rays transferred Walls (sports hernia) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Manager Kevin Cash had already announced earlier this month that Walls would be shut down for the season after requiring sports hernia surgery, so the infielder's move to the 60-day IL was merely a formality. The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Cole Wilcox, who was called up from Triple-A Durham.

Leo De Vries SS | ATH
Athletics' Leo De Vries: On fire at Double-A
De Vries went 2-for-4 with a home run in Tuesday's playoff game for Double-A Midland against Amarillo.
He hit an opposite-field home run in his first career playoff at-bat Tuesday and has six homers in his last nine games for the RockHounds. De Vries, one of the best prospects to get traded at the trade deadline in recent memory, slashed .281/.359/.551 with five home runs, two steals, a 144 wRC+ and a 19.4 percent strikeout rate in 21 regular-season games at Double-A as an 18-year-old. The uber-talented switch hitter appears to be on the fast track to the big leagues and figures to be Jacob Wilson's double-play partner by late 2026 or early 2027.

Denzer Guzman SS | LAA
Angels' Denzer Guzman: Clubs first MLB homer
Guzman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-2 loss against the Brewers.
Guzman belted his first career homer Tuesday, driving a Freddy Peralta pitch to straightaway center field in the fifth inning to get the Angels on the board. The 21-year-old has opened his big-league career 3-for-9 across three games and should continue to see steady opportunities down the stretch with Zach Neto (hand) sidelined.

Ryan Fitzgerald SS | MIN
Twins' Ryan Fitzgerald: Goes deep in loss
Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's loss against the Yankees.
Fitzgerald launched his third career homer in Tuesday's loss, turning on a cutter in a lefty-lefty battle against Ryan Yarbrough. Though his playing time has been sporadic, the infielder has made the most of recent opportunities, going 5-for-14 with two long balls and six RBI so far in September.

Trevor Story SS | BOS
Red Sox's Trevor Story: Reaches 30 steals
Story went 3-for-4 and stole two bases in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Athletics.
Story stole bags after singling in the first and third innings. The two thefts upped his season total to a career-high 30. More impressive, no backstop has been able to catch him stealing yet in 2025. This marks the fourth time since the expansion era began in 1961 that a player has started a season with 30 straight successful attempts.
-
Gabriel Arias SS | CLE
Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Plays role in win
Arias went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Tigers.
Arias swatted a solo home run in the fourth inning and then singled in the final run as part of the team's four-run 10th inning. The homer was his career-high 11th to along with 50 RBI. Since returning from a wrist injury last week, Arias is 4-for-15 with a double, a homer, two RBI, one steal and two runs scored over four contests.

Jeremy Pena SS | HOU
Astros' Jeremy Pena: Another big performance
Pena went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored Tuesday against the Rangers.
Pena set the table for Houston's offense, leading off both the first and third innings with singles before coming around to score. He extended his hitting streak to five games and has at least one hit in 21 of his last 26 games, during which he's recorded 12 RBI and 13 runs scored while hitting .281. Pena has performed particularly well to start the Astros' series against Texas, tallying five hits with an RBI and five runs scored in the last two games.
