    McGonigle went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 8-5 win over the Pirates. McGonigle snapped a mini 0-for-7 slump over his last two games with a solid performance that included his 13th home run of the season. Three of those long balls have come in 14 contests this month, and the youngster has been showing more power overall as the year has gone along, as he had just three homers through the end of May. McGonigle has had a great debut campaign so far and seems well on his way to winning the AL Rookie of the Year award.

    McGonigle went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Guardians. The 21-year-old infielder put the Tigers in the lead for good with his two-run double in the fifth inning. McGonigle has hit safely in five straight games, going 9-for-22 (.409), and since the All-Star break the AL Rookie of the Year favorite has compiled a .308/.387/.473 slash line with four homers, 14 RBI and 19 runs in 22 contests.

After an 0-for-4 effort Saturday, McGonigle bounced back with a good game Sunday to wrap up the weekend series.   • Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Agrees to $150 million extension

    The Tigers signed McGonigle to an eight-year, $150 million contract extension Wednesday. The deal will begin in 2027 and run through the 2034 season, which covers McGonigle's final five seasons of club control, plus his first three years of free agency. He'll receive a $14 million signing bonus and the contract can max out at $160 million if McGonigle reaches all escalators. It's the latest in a string of pre-arbitration contract extensions teams have handed out to young players in recent weeks. McGonigle will not turn 22 until August and is slashing .311/.417/.492 with one home run, one stolen base and an 11:8 BB:K over his first 17 games at the major-league level.
