  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Astros' Aledmys Diaz: Utility role beckons

Diaz is expected to move into a utility role for the Astros moving forward after Alex Bregman (hamstring/quadriceps) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.

Diaz has been a credible performer while filling in at third base for Bregman over the past month, hitting .337 with four home runs, 19 RBI and 11 runs in 24 games. According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, Diaz will stick in the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Royals as Houston's starting left fielder, but that's only because Michael Brantley is getting some routine maintenance for the day game after a night game. Expect Diaz to pick up a handful of starts per week now that Bregman is back in the fold.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Drives in two

Correa went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Royals.

Correa gave the Astros an early 1-0 lead with an RBI groundout in the first inning, then drove in the game's final run on an RBI double in the third. The shortstop has been locked in at the plate of late, batting .351 with a 6:4 BB:K in his last 10 games.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Expected back Wednesday

Anderson (leg) is expected to return to the lineup and bat leadoff Wednesday, Jordan Horrobin of MLB.com reports.

Anderson sat for a fourth straight game Tuesday, as the White Sox exercise caution with an eye toward the long game (i.e. the postseason). Danny Mendick has filled in at shortstop while Anderson has been unavailable.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Tallies 20th steal

Edman went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Tigers.

The second baseman singled to lead off the Cardinals' half of the first inning and subsequently stole second base, though he was ultimately stranded at third. He also knocked in a run with an eighth-inning groundout. Edman's theft brought him to 20 on the campaign, good for fourth in the National League. He is batting .342 (13-for-38) over his past nine games.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Won't play Wednesday

Adames (quadriceps) won't be in the lineup Wednesday against the Reds, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The quadriceps issue apparently surfaced during last week's series against the Cardinals, though Adames was able to play through the injury until it flared up during Tuesday's opening frame. Manager Craig Counsell downplayed the issue, but the shortstop could still end up spending an extra day or two on the bench after Wednesday to help avoid aggravating the injury.

  • Yu Chang SS | TB

Indians' Yu Chang: Smacks fourth homer

Chang went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Rangers.

Chang led off the bottom of the fifth inning with his fourth home run of the season. While his season-long line is not impressive, Chang has six hits in 22 at-bats since being recalled Aug. 13. Four of those knocks have gone for extra bases. Even given his recent form, Chang could run out of regular playing time soon, as Bobby Bradley (knee) began a rehab assignment Tuesday.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Managing tight back

Crawford was removed from Tuesday's win over the Mets with lower-back tightness, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Crawford went 1-for-3 with an RBI prior to being lifted for a pinch hitter during the seventh inning. Manager Gabe Kapler said the veteran shortstop should be considered day-to-day with the injury.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | TB

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Dealing with back issue

Mateo was removed from Tuesday's game against the Angels with lower-back discomfort, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.

Mateo went 2-for-2 with a walk before being replaced in the field at the start of the seventh inning. The severity of the injury is unclear, and the 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until his status is updated.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Leaves with quad discomfort

Adames was removed from Tuesday's game against the Reds with left quadriceps discomfort, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Adames doubled during the opening frame and came around to score, and he apparently picked up the injury while running the bases. The Brewers labeled his removal as precautionary, so the 25-year-old could end up making a quick return to the field. Jace Peterson entered the lineup in his place and is playing third base, while Luis Urias moves to shortstop.

  • Pablo Reyes RF | SD

    Brewers' Pablo Reyes: Rejoins Brewers

The Brewers recalled Reyes from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Reyes has hit .245 with a home run and nine RBI at Triple-A since being optioned Aug. 2, but he now gets called up to replace Eduardo Escobar (hamstring) on Milwaukee's active roster. In the big leagues this season, Reyes has hit .214 with three doubles and two RBI in 56 at-bats.
