  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: Receives breather Sunday

Arcia is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Arcia is enjoying a phenomenal early start to the month of August, as the emerging young shortstop is hitting .348 through the first 12 games of the month. He'll receive a well-earned breather as Eric Sogard takes over at shortstop, batting seventh.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Positioned on bench Sunday

Story is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Story has scuffled at the plate for the majority of the 2017 season and has shown no signs of a turnaround during the month of August. The young shortstop is hitting just .129/.229/.129 in his last nine games and will give way to Pat Valaika as the Rockies close out their weekend series against Vance Worley and the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Dee Gordon: Gets day off

Gordon is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Gordon will open the game on the bench for the second consecutive Sunday as the Marlins look to keep the 29-year-old speedster's legs fresh. Mike Aviles will take over at second base in his absence, batting eighth.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: On base three times in win

DeJong went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a walk and two runs in Thursday's 8-6 win over the Royals.

DeJong's eighth-inning two-bagger provided the Cardinals with a key insurance run, and his overall tally represented his third multi-hit effort in the last five contests. While the rookie continues to struggle with strikeouts (32.6 percent whiff rate in August), he's also providing plenty of impactful contact, compiling a pair of homers and five RBI in his first nine games of the new month.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: Up to second in batting order Thursday

Arcia moves up to the two spot in the order for Thursday's series finale against Minnesota.

Besides two games this season, Arcia has hit no earlier than sixth in the order, and has typically resided in the eight hole for the majority of the 2017 campaign. With the Milwaukee offense needing a spark, especially at this spot in the order, manager Craig Counsell appears to be giving Arica an opportunity to claim the role. Since Aug. 3, the 23-year-old has gone 12-for-26 at the plate, with two home runs, three RBI and five runs.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Moves to rotational exercises

Turner (wrist) has progressed to rotational exercises, but hasn't been cleared to hit, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

Turner was able throw from 60-to-75 feet Wednesday while working on grounders and his tosses from second base prior to Washington's game against the Marlins. He was also able to throw from shortstop to first Thursday, which provides another key step in Turner's recovery, as he believes that he can make it back to the big-league club in time for 30-to-40 games before the end of the regular season. While that may be a tad premature, all that's left between the 24-year-old and a rehab assignment is being cleared to start hitting again. He will likely require an extended rehab assignment, but a late-August return date isn't out of the question.

Nationals' Trea Turner: Progressing to field work

Turner (wrist) was able to take grounders and throw from second base prior to Washington's game against the Marlins on Wednesday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

Turner has been easing his way back into the fold during his time on the disabled list, with Wednesday marking the first time that he's been able to field ground balls on the diamond. The 24-year-old will continue ramping up his efforts, as he's expected to begin hitting in the very near future. He still has a way to go before rejoining the club, but these activities provide a positive sign for Turner's progress.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Ticketed for full-time role in return to bigs

Braves manager Brian Snitker confirmed that Swanson, who was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett, will be the team's everyday shortstop, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. He'll enter the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies, batting eighth.

Despite his immense struggles at the plate with the big club earlier this season, Swanson is still viewed as an integral part of the Braves' rebuild, so it's no surprise that he'll receive regular at-bats upon rejoining the big club. Swanson will take over the role that had previously fallen to Johan Camargo, who was moved to the disabled list after suffering a bone bruise on his right knee while running onto the field prior to Tuesday's game. The Braves expect Camargo to miss at least two weeks with the injury, so Swanson will have a decent length of time to try and improve upon his dismal .213/.287/.312 slash line.

  • Braves' Johan Camargo: Formally placed on DL

Camargo (knee) was placed on the 10-day DL on Wednesday.

In a stroke of horrible luck, Camargo was injured while running onto the field for Tuesday's game. He was later diagnosed with a right knee bone bruise, and the expectation is that he will miss at least two weeks. Dansby Swanson will likely serve as the primary shortstop until Camargo is cleared to return.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Resumes hitting, throwing Monday

Ahmed (hand) was cleared to begin hitting and throwing Monday, Jarrid Denney of MLB.com reports.

The shortstop has only gone through light hitting drills the last two days, batting off a tee and taking underhand tosses to test out his swing. He's hopeful to ramp up his activity and get in the batting cage later in the week before eventually facing pitching in batting-practice sessions. Ahmed noted that he's slightly ahead of schedule in his recovery after fracturing his right hand on June 27, but since the Diamondbacks recently moved him to the 60-day disabled list, he won't be eligible to return until the end of the month.
