  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Reaches three times in win

Adames went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and three runs in Tuesday's victory over the Orioles.

Adames reached base multiple times for the third time in five games, and he now owns five runs and a .988 OPS on the season. He has started every game at the shortstop position and has filled the second spot in the batting order in each contest.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Scores twice in romp

Arcia went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and a run in Tuesday's 16-4 win over the Nationals.

Arcia has been part of a platoon at designated hitter with Alex Dickerson to begin the season, but he's unlikely to see his role expand much moving forward. As the right-handed hitter of the platoon, Arcia will find himself out of the lineup more often than not, and both Dickerson and Arcia will see their opportunities trend down once Ronald Acuna (knee) is deemed ready to make his season debut.

  • Diego Castillo 3B | MIN

Pirates' Diego Castillo: In lineup against lefties

Castillo went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.

Castillo was in the lineup for the second consecutive game, playing second base while hitting fifth. Though he has not carried over his powerful performance during spring training, Castillo has five hits across his first 13 at-bats. Despite that promising start to his big-league career, Castillo appears to be on the short side of a platoon with Hoy Park at second base for the time being.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Sits against southpaw

Wendle will be on the bench Tuesday against lefty Patrick Sandoval and the Angels, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Through five games, Wendle has started against three righties and sat against two lefties. Jon Berti will handle the hot corner Tuesday.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Stuck near bottom of lineup

Swanson will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

Atlanta is facing a left-handed starter (Patrick Corbin) for the second day in a row, but even with lefty-hitting regulars Eddie Rosario and Alex Dickerson out of the starting nine, Swanson hasn't been able to climb much in the order. Swanson didn't hit any higher than seventh in any of Atlanta's first five games, going 2-for-16 with 10 strikeouts.

  • Kevin Made SS | WAS

Cubs' Kevin Made: Out with elbow soreness

Made is on the injured list at Low-A Myrtle Beach with elbow soreness but could return to game action later this month, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.

A seven-figure signee as part of the Cubs' July 2, 2019 international signing class, Made is an excellent defensive shortstop, which should be his calling card as he moves up the ladder. He hit .272/.296/.366 with one home run, two steals, a 2.5 BB% and a 23.5 K% in 58 games as an 18-year-old at Low-A last season.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Padres' CJ Abrams: On bench Monday

Abrams will sit Monday against the Giants.

Abrams has now been on the bench for three of the Padres' first five games, but the way he's been used is arguably encouraging for his future playing time. He's started at shortstop against both righties the Padres have faced, while Ha-Seong Kim has started against all three lefties, including Monday's starter Alex Wood. Once the Padres start facing a more standard split of righties and lefties, Abrams' playing time should increase.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Crosses plate twice Sunday

Wendle went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Giants.

The veteran infielder accounted for both of Miami's runs on the afternoon while getting the start at shortstop and hitting sixth. Wendle is off to a quick start to his Marlins tenure, going 3-for-7 with a walk and three runs scored through two games.

  • Kahlil Watson SS | CLE

Marlins' Kahlil Watson: Begins season with bang

Watson homered for the second time in as many games Sunday for Low-A Jupiter in a win over Palm Beach.

The 16th overall pick in the 2021 Draft got an aggressive assignment to full-season ball to begin the season despite not turning 19 until later this week, but it's Watson who is dominating older pitchers, not the other way around. He's 4-for-10 with two doubles and two homers through his first three games for the Hammerheads, and while his 1:5 BB:K is a sign that the hot streak could end quickly if he doesn't sharpen his plate discipline, it's hard to argue he shouldn't keep swinging given what's been happening when he makes contact. The Marlins appear to have landed a gem with Watson, but he still remains at least a couple years away from his big-league debut.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

    Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Notes improvement

Ahmed (shoulder) hopes to begin taking at-bats at extended spring training this week, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Ahmed was enthused when discussing the state of his right shoulder after receiving two cortisone shots in late March. "It's way better than it was two weeks ago," the shortstop said. According to the report, Ahmed has been hitting and throwing since early last week, which contradicts an earlier report from Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, who indicated Ahmed was hitting and taking grounders but not throwing. Ahmed could return at some point next week while the Diamondbacks are one the road.
