Josh H. Smith SS | TEX
Rangers' Josh Smith: Bowing out of lineup Thursday
Smith is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.
The left-handed-hitting Smith started at shortstop and batted ninth in Wednesday's 4-3 loss while left-hander Ryan Yarbrough took the hill for the Yankees, but Smith will check out of the lineup for the series finale with New York sending another southpaw (Carlos Rodon) to the bump. Ezequiel Duran will spell Smith at shortstop.

Chase Meidroth SS | CHW
White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Extends hit streak to nine games
Meidroth went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base Wednesday against the Mariners.
Meidroth hit only .228 across his first 19 games in the majors, but his more recent sample has been positive. He has at least one hit in each of his last nine starts -- including five multi-hit games -- and has hit .417 with one homer, three RBI, six runs scored and five stolen bases in that span.

Zachary Neto SS | LAA
Angels' Zach Neto: Flashes power, speed in victory
Neto went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a stolen base against the Athletics in a 10-5 win Wednesday.
Neto's power and speed were both on display in the win -- he popped a two-run homer in the third inning, then reached on an infield single, stole a base and came around to score in the ninth. The talented young shortstop missed the first few weeks of the season while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, but that issue seems well behind him. Neto has posted an .889 OPS through 30 games, collecting eight homers, eight steals, 18 RBI and 25 runs scored.

Bo Bichette SS | TOR
Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Another multi-hit game
Bichette went 2-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 14-0 win over the Padres.
It was another multi-hit game by Bichette, who now has 19 such occurrences in 2025. Over his last 20 outings (85 at-bats), the 27-year-old shortstop is batting a strong .294 with four homers, seven doubles, 11 RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases. Bichette ranks sixth in the American League with 59 hits on the season.

Jacob Wilson SS | ATH
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Sitting down Wednesday
Wilson (forearm) isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
Wilson was pulled from Tuesday's contest after taking a pitch off his left forearm, and he'll get another day off to recover Wednesday. Max Schuemann will get the nod at shortstop instead and bat ninth.
-
Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Twins' Carlos Correa: Recovery coming along
Twins head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta said Wednesday that Correa's concussion symptoms are improving, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Both Correa and Byron Buxton landed on the 7-day concussion injured list after the two were involved in an on-field collision May 15. Correa is farther along of the two in his recovery, although the Twins haven't offered up a timetable for his return. He is eligible for activation Friday.

Taylor Walls 3B | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Scratched due to groin injury
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Walls was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros due to groin soreness, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Cash is hopeful that Walls will be available to play following a scheduled off day Thursday. Jose Caballero will take Walls' spot at shortstop Wednesday, with Curtis Mead entering the lineup at third base.

Taylor Walls 3B | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Taking seat Wednesday
Walls is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Walls had been included in the initial lineup the Rays released, but he'll end up sitting. Jose Caballero will get the nod at shortstop in place of Walls, who had started in each of the Rays' previous four games while going 1-for-13 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored.

Jacob Wilson SS | ATH
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Leaves with bruised forearm
Wilson was removed from Tuesday's game against the Angels after getting hit on the left forearm by a pitch, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Wilson remained in the game for a while after getting plunked in the third inning, but he was eventually lifted for a pinch hitter in the fifth. The A's are officially calling the infielder's injury a contusion, so it doesn't seem like he's dealing with any serious damage and could be back in the lineup within a day or two.

Marcelo Mayer SS | BOS
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Getting starts at second base
Mayer started at the second base twice in the last three games for Triple-A Worcester.
Mayer has moved around the infield for the WooSox but has mostly defended at shortstop -- he's made seven starts at second, four at third and 39 at short. That he's made two starts in the last three games is noteworthy, because the Red Sox recently began giving Kristian Campbell practice reps at first base. If Campbell adapts to the entirely unfamiliar position, he could serve as the team's primary fill-in for the injured Triston Casas (knee), which would open up second base, potentially for Mayer or David Hamilton.
