  • Cubs' Gabriel Arias: Claimed by Cubs

The Cubs claimed Arias off waivers from the Mets on Wednesday. Arias was DFA'd by the Mets after going 0-for-5 during his brief stay in Queens, and he'll now make his way to Chicago to help bolster the Cubs' infield depth. Phil Maton (knee) was transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Mets' Gabriel Arias: Jettisoned from 40-man roster

The Mets designated Arias for assignment Monday. Arias was a waiver claim of the Mets earlier this month and is now headed back to the waiver wire after going 0-for-5 during his brief stint in New York. He's being replaced on the active roster by Christopher Morel.

  • Mets' Gabriel Arias: Goes to Mets via waivers

The Mets claimed Arias off waivers from the Guardians on Friday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Arias was removed from the Guardians' 40-man roster earlier this week after collecting a .244/.284/.386 slash line with five homers and a 42.5 percent strikeout rate in 134 plate appearances this season. The 26-year-old does not have minor-league options remaining, so he will join the Mets' active roster. New York will have to make a corresponding transaction when Arias reports to the club.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Fills in at hot corner

Arias started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Mets. Arias replaced the injured Jose Ramirez (hand) at the hot corner and it didn't go well for the Guardians. Arias' throwing error in the second inning led to three unearned runs, and at the plate, he left three runners in scoring position. Ramirez is experiencing soreness in his left hand, the same one he had surgery on in June to repair a hamate bone fracture.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: On-base three times in win

Arias started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored during Wednesdays 6-1 win over the Reds. Arias has seen his playing time dwindle since Jose Ramirez (hand) came off the injured list, but he got the start at second base Wednesday with Travis Bazzana moving to designated hitter. Arias now has a hit in six of his last seven games. The 26-year-old is having the best hitting season of his career with a .261/.302/.412 slash line and five home runs, but he could have trouble finding regular starts since Ramirez, Bazzana, and Brayan Rocchio are locked into starting roles.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Likely to shift into utility role

Arias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Arias had started in three of the Guardians' previous four games, but he'll likely shift into more of a utility role moving forward after Jose Ramirez (hand) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Since returning June 14 following an extended stay on the IL, Arias has played in 25 games for the Guardians and has produced a .260/.299/.397 batting line with three home runs, four stolen bases, nine runs and six RBI.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: On bench Monday

Arias is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins. The Guardians will go with Daniel Schneemann at third base while Arias retreats to the bench for the series opener. Arias had covered the hot corner in four of Cleveland's previous five games, going 5-for-15 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs during that stretch.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Sitting down in Game 2

Arias isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates. Arias struck out three times in four at-bats during Cleveland's 7-1 loss in the matinee, and he'll now retreat to the bench while Daniel Schneemann mans the hot corner in Game 2.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Three hits, two steals vs. Miami

Arias went 3-for-4 with three singles, two steals and a run scored during the Guardians' 4-1 win over the Marlins on Saturday. Arias set a season high with three hits Saturday and is now up to three steals on the season following his two swipes against the Marlins. He continues to see regular playing time at the hot corner, but that should change once Jose Ramirez (hand) returns from the injured list, with the latter targeting a return shortly after the All-Star break. Arias has a .712 OPS with 10 RBI and seven extra-base hits across 93 plate appearances this season.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Goes deep in loss

Arias started at third base and went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the White Sox. Arias wiped out Chicago's 6-3 lead with a three-run blast in the fifth inning. It was the fourth home run of the season for Arias, who continues to be the primary fill-in for the injured Jose Ramirez (hand) at third base. Ramirez recently began hitting off a tee and could progress to overhand pitching in the coming days but remains on his post-surgery timeline of five-to-seven weeks. That means Arias should continue as a lineup regular until late July. Since returning from his own injury, Arias is 11-for-47 (.234) with two home runs, five RBI, one steal and six runs scored over 16 games.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Taking seat Saturday

Arias out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Arias will be on the bench to begin Saturday's contest while Daniel Schneemann starts at third base and bats seventh. Since coming off the 60-day injured list June 14, Arias is batting just .214 with one home run and two RBI, but he started the hot corner in each of the previous seven games and is expected to operate as the Guardians' preferred option at the position until Jose Ramirez (hand) returns from the injured list.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Smacks homer in loss

Arias went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's loss to the Rangers. Arias got Cleveland on the board with a 107.5 mph solo shot to left-center field in the fifth inning, accounting for his lone hit of the game. The 26-year-old has started three straight games and five of the past eight contests at third base as the Guardians look to patch things together at the hot corner while Jose Ramirez (hand) is sidelined. Overall, Arias is slashing .217/.254/.400 with three homers, six RBI, four runs and a stolen base across 63 plate appearances this season.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Returns to action

Arias started at third base and went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Milwaukee. In Cleveland's first game without injured third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand), Arias got the call at the hot corner against a left-hander. It was his first appearance since being activated off the injured list Sunday. Ramirez's injury is expected to keep him sidelined between five and seven weeks, so there will be more opportunities for Arias. He could share third base with the left-handed-hitting Daniel Schneemann, while both have the ability to defend multiple positions around the diamond.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: May be needed at third base

Arias (hamstring) is one option to fill in at third base after Jose Ramirez suffered a fractured left hamate bone Saturday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Arias is currently on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus, where he's being prepared for a utility role, including one game at third base. Daniel Schneemann and David Fry are also possibilities on the current roster. Arias can be activated off the 60-day IL at any point.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Opens rehab assignment

Arias (hamstring) started at shortstop and went 0-for-1 with a walk for Triple-A Columbus on Thursday. Arias opened a rehab assignment with the Clippers and played five innings in the field before taking a seat for the final four frames. He's been out since early April, which suggests he'll use up most of the allotted 20 days for position players on a rehab assignment. Given the performances of Brayan Rocchio at shortstop and Travis Bazzana at second base, Arias may have to settle for a utility role once he's ready.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Closing in on rehab assignment

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Saturday that Arias (hamstring) is getting "closer" to a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports. Arias recently began baseball activities and hitting in cages following a brief pause in his rehab activity. Since he landed on the injured list in early April, Cleveland's middle infield has evolved into a tandem of Travis Bazzana at second base and Brayan Rocchio at shortstop. That leaves an infield utility role for Arias when he's ready to return; however, Daniel Schneemann can fill that same role.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Transferred to 60-day IL

The Guardians transferred Arias (hamstring) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. The move opens up a 40-man roster spot for Stuart Fairchild, who had his contract selected from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. Arias has been sidelined since April 6 due to a hamstring strain that he aggravated last week, but he has been able to resume baseball activities and could still rejoin the Guardians some time in June.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Snaps slide

Brito went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Orioles. Brito contributed a two-run double to the Guardians' four-run fourth inning. The hit snapped an 0-for-13 slide and his first extra-base hit and RBI since April 8. He's getting regular playing time while Gabriel Arias (hamstring) in on the injured list, but a slash line of .184/.244/263 leaves Brito vulnerable. Daniel Schneemann (.890 OPS) lurks on the 26-man roster, and elite prospect Travis Bazzana is heating up -- .414/.485/.759 in last seven games -- at Triple-A Columbus after a slow start. Brito's also made three errors since arriving in Cleveland, which could prompt a move to replace him.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Headed for MRI

Arias (hamstring) will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Arias pulled up gingerly in the fifth inning Monday on his way to a double and was removed from the game. He's unlikely to play in Tuesday's game, which was moved up from a scheduled 6:10 pm start to 1:10 pm due to frigid nighttime weather forecasted for Cleveland. Following Monday's exit, Daniel Schneemann pinch ran for Arias, while Brayan Rocchio replaced him at shortstop.

  • Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Exits early Monday

Arias left Monday's game against the Royals due to an apparent left leg injury, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Arias appeared to suffer the injury during the fifth inning on a double, and he was promptly removed from the matchup. He can be considered day-to-day until the team has more information on the severity of his injury.
