Wendle went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a double and a run in a win over the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Wendle's multi-hit effort was his third in his last four starts, a sign the struggling infielder might finally be starting to hit his stride for good at the plate. Injuries have derailed Wendle's rhythm for the majority of the season, but he's been able to boost his average 33 points to .209 since the calendar flipped to July thanks to increased consistency. The 29-year-old eclipsed the .300 mark in each of the last two seasons, so there's plenty of reason to believe his current surge is legitimate and has lasting potential.

Correa (rib) is expected to return to the lineup Friday against the Cardinals, Hunter Atkins of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The only thing that would prevent Correa from returning is if he were to develop complications from his rehab appearance Wednesday. He went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored for Triple-A Round Rock and appears ready to go Friday, the first day he is eligible to be activated off the 60-day injured list.

Diaz was given the day off Wednesday after starting the first two games since being activated off the injured list.

Astros manager AJ Hinch planned this day off, per Hunter Atkins of the Houston Chronicle. "Diaz is still coming back from his injury. I planned on playing him on back-to-back days and then hopefully staying away from him today. He's fine to play, but we've got to be smart with how much we put on him coming back," said the manager. Hinch said he made a mistake by pushing Diaz too hard the last time the infielder returned after missing games due to injury.

Anderson (ankle) went 3-for-4 with an RBI in a rehab game for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Anderson did not play the field but got three opportunities to run the bases. He'll need to hit a few benchmarks, like playing back-to-back games and playing the field nine innings, before the White Sox activate him.

It's possible that Anderson will be ready to return once the calendar turns to August, but he will still need to progress to playing back-to-back days in the field. He has been sidelined since June 25.

Adames is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

With one hit and 11 strikeouts in 21 at-bats over his last six games, Adames has looked lost at the plate lately and may begin to lose playing time as a result. He'll be on the bench for the second time in six games while Joey Wendle takes over at shortstop.

Anderson (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The shortstop ran the bases Monday, clearing the final hurdle necessary to return to a live setting. He's missed close to a month with the high-ankle sprain, but Anderson suggested he may only need a week's worth of games or so in the minors to prepare for a return to Chicago. When ready, Anderson will push Ryan Goins to the bench or off the roster entirely.

Gordon landed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left quad Tuesday.

Gordon left Monday's game after getting hit in the back by a pickoff throw. According to Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle, the 31-year-old is expected to miss a few weeks but has no official timetable for his return. Tim Lopes was recalled in a corresponding move, while Austin Nola is starting at second base Tuesday.

Wendle remains on the bench Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Wendle sits again with another lefty (Chris Sale) starting for Boston. He could sit for a third straight game Wednesday with a third lefty (David Price) on the mound. Mike Brosseau again starts at second base.

Crawford went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a double in a win over the Rangers on Monday.

The multi-hit effort was Crawford's first since June 28, a 16-game stretch during which he hit an abysmal .107 (6-for-56). The skid led to a 68-point tumble in Crawford's season average (.319 to .251), but with the Mariners devoid of any postseason aspirations, manager Scott Servais has stuck with his young shortstop in an apparent effort to let Crawford claw his way out of the extended funk. It remains to be seen if Monday's performance can serve as a launchpad to a resurgence at the plate.
