Witt was diagnosed with a bruise after being hit by a pitch on his left forearm/wrist during Monday's loss to the Twins, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The team sent Witt for imaging after the game likely as a precaution, and the results came back negative. Kansas City's medical staff figures to give the star shortstop a quick look Tuesday to make sure there isn't any significant swelling, but all signs point to him being in the starting lineup for the second game of the series.

Rocchio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Though he's been picking up more playing time of late while he's thus far put together a .231/.310/.423 slash line in August, Rocchio isn't yet locked back in as an everyday player for the Guardians. Manager Stephen Vogt hasn't been leaning on a conventional platoon at shortstop between the switch-hitting Rocchio and the lefty-hitting Daniel Schneemann, either. Both players will hit the bench Monday against lefty Shota Imanaga while Tyler Freeman gets the nod at shortstop.

Schneemann and fellow left-handed hitters Bo Naylor and Will Brennan will hit the bench for the series opener while the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the hill. Tyler Freeman will get the nod at shortstop in place of Schneemann.

Crawford (finger) did light tossing out to 60 feet before Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, MLB.com reports.

It marked the first time the recovering infielder was able to throw since going on the injured list July 23. Crawford had been engaging in infield fielding practice since Aug. 2 as well, so a return before the end of the month, even when factoring in a rehab assignment, could be within the range of outcomes.

Schuemann went 0-for-1 with three walks and a run in a win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.

The rookie displayed impressive plate discipline out of the bottom of the order, pushing his season on-base percentage to .344 with his first multi-walk tally since July 25. Schuemann has now reached safely in six straight starts, a stretch where he boasts a .450 OBP across 20 plate appearances.

High-A West Michigan placed McGonigle on its injured list Monday with a hamate fracture of his right hand.

McGonigle is a left-handed hitter, but since the injury is to his throwing hand, he may not be cleared to return to game action before West Michigan's season ends Sept. 8. The shortstop has acquitted himself well as a 19-year-old in the Midwest League this season, slashing .214/.368/.357 with a home run and two stolen bases over 57 plate appearances since receiving a promotion from Single-A Lakeland shortly after the All-Star break.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday that Bichette (calf) is "progressing well," and the club is hoping he can resume baseball activities within the next week, MLB.com reports.

Bichette is closing in on the one-month mark in his recovery from a moderate right calf strain, and though he seems to be healing as anticipated, he hasn't demonstrated much in the way of tangible progress in the recovery process. The Blue Jays haven't provided a timeline for Bichette's return from the shelf, but since he hasn't resumed baseball activities and will eventually need to complete a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated, he wouldn't seem likely to rejoin the Toronto lineup until at least late August.

Henderson went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Rays.

Henderson has logged three hits in four of his last eight games, though he unfortunately went hitless in the other four contests in that span. The shortstop has struggled on the power front lately, contributing five doubles, one triple and one home run over 22 contests since the All-Star break. Still, he's hitting consistently and has a .290/.376/.553 slash line, 29 homers, 69 RBI, 94 runs scored, 23 doubles and 14 stolen bases through 117 contests. Henderson should continue to get decent chances for RBI while hitting third in Baltimore's order.

Pena went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Red Sox.

Pena was a thorn in the side of the Red Sox on Sunday, matching his 2023 season totals in homers (10) and steals (13). He's been a bit volatile in August, logging four multi-hit efforts while going hitless in his other five games. On the season, the shortstop is hitting .273 with 54 RBI and 59 runs scored across 480 plate appearances in what has been a solid bounceback campaign.

The Mariners optioned Bliss to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was called up by Seattle on Wednesday but will return to the minors due to Julio Rodriguez (ankle) being activated from the injured list. Bliss has played in 33 big-league games this season and has a .687 OPS and 31 percent strikeout rate in 71 plate appearances.
