Reds' Chase Petty: Stepping into rotation

Petty was added to the Reds' taxi squad Friday and will be recalled from Triple-A Louisville to start Saturday against the Cardinals, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The right-hander will enter the rotation in place of Wade Miley (forearm), who was placed on the injured list Friday. Petty struggled in his first two big-league appearances earlier this season with 13 runs allowed over 5.1 innings, but he pitched to a 2.70 ERA in four starts with Louisville since being demoted.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Reds' Wade Miley: Lands on injured list

The Reds placed Miley on the 15-day injured list Friday due to a left flexor strain.

The veteran left-hander last pitched Sunday in Detroit and gave up two runs across five innings, but he may have injured his arm during that outing or in his between-starts bullpen session. Miley will be eligible to be activated in early July, but could be out longer given the nature of the injury. Chase Petty will be called up from Triple-A Louisville to enter the rotation in place of Miley on Saturday against the Cardinals.

  • Keider Montero SP | DET

Tigers' Keider Montero: Sent to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Montero to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Montero threw five innings in bulk relief during the Tigers' 8-4 loss in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Pirates. The right-hander has amassed a 4.02 ERA and 39:20 K:BB across 56 innings this season. Dylan Smith was up as the 27th man, but it's Montero who goes to Triple-A. Smith's arm is fresher after throwing just 23 pitches across two innings Thursday.

  • Bowden Francis RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Bowden Francis: Temporarily shut down from throwing

Francis (shoulder) received a cortisone shot recently and will be shut down from throwing for "a few more days," Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Francis was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right shoulder impingement and has yet to resume throwing after receiving a cortisone shot. Without a timetable for return, Francis' recovery will likely stretch into July.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Tigers' Alex Cobb: Cleared for mound work

Cobb (hip) is scheduled to throw his next bullpen session Saturday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Cobb received an injection to address left hip inflammation June 13, and after a week-long shutdown period, he's been cleared to resume throwing off a mound. Assuming he doesn't endure another setback, Cobb should head back out on a rehab assignment within a week or two. He remains on the Tigers' 60-day injured list and has yet to make his 2025 debut with the big club.

  • Cardinals' Michael McGreevy: Returned to Triple-A

McGreevy was returned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

McGreevy was up as the 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox, and he made the start in the second game, allowing just one run on three hits and one walk across five innings. McGreevy struck out five and was in line for the win, as he left the game with a 6-1 lead before the St. Louis bullpen coughed it up in the late innings. McGreevy has made a pair of starts in doubleheaders for the Cardinals this season and has appeared in three games total. He heads back to Triple-A with an impressive 2.70 ERA and 15:2 K:BB across 16.2 innings of work. McGreevy will be back up at some point, but there's not currently a spot for him in the rotation. One would open up if the Cardinals opt to move one of their contract-year starters at the deadline.

  • Mets' Blade Tidwell: Officially promoted to start Friday

The Mets recalled Tidwell from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

Tidwell has been tapped as Friday's starter against the Phillies, and the 24-year-old will hope for a better outing than his first MLB start May 4 against the Cardinals in which he allowed six earned runs on nine hits and three walks across 3.2 innings. Tidwell was saddled with the loss in that game and struck out just two. He's not a recommended fantasy option versus Philadelphia.

  • Davis Martin SP | CHW

White Sox's Davis Martin: Out with forearm strain

The White Sox placed Martin on the 15-day injured list Friday due to a right forearm strain.

The right-hander was penciled in to start Friday against the Blue Jays, but he's instead landed on the IL. Martin will be eligible to return from the shelf in early July, but given the nature of the injury, he could wind up missing more than the minimum 15 days. Chicago has yet to announce a replacement starter for Friday's contest.

  • Reds' Connor Phillips: Call-up pending

Phillips is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Phillips is set to join the Reds' bullpen Friday after tallying a 3.21 ERA in 14 innings at Louisville this season. The 24-year-old had exclusively operated as a starter before 2025, including his five-start stint with the Reds back in 2023, when he logged a 6.97 ERA and a 26:13 K:BB over 20.2 innings.

  • Sean Manaea RP | NYM

Mets' Sean Manaea: Set for fourth rehab start Friday

Manaea (oblique) will move to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday to make his fourth rehab start, Ben Krimmel of SNY.tv reports.

Manaea has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a right oblique strain, but he looks to be just a couple weeks away from returning from the 60-day injured list. The veteran southpaw most recently pitched Sunday for High-A Brooklyn, covering 2.1 innings and striking out two batters while allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks. After Friday's outing, Manaea is expected to make at least one more rehab start before joining the big club. His 2025 Mets debut is tentatively scheduled for a three-game set against the Brewers that starts July 1, per Mike Puma of the New York Post.
