Burnes (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Tuesday and will throw another later in the week, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

The right-hander is working his way back from an elbow strain and appears to be on the cusp of returning to game action. If Burns comes out of his two sessions this week with no issues, and he could then head out on a rehab assignment before potentially rejoining the Reds in the second half of September.

The Twins will shut down Festa (shoulder) for the remainder of the season, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Festa pitched in a rehab game at Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, striking out five batters and walking three over 2.2 shutout innings. However, he reported feeling renewed discomfort in his right shoulder afterward, so the Twins will now pivot and work to get the 25-year-old ready for next season. He'll close the book on 2025 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.28 WHIP to go with a 53:19 K:BB through 53.1 innings.

The Orioles reinstated Wells (elbow) from the injured list prior to his start Tuesday against the Padres.

Wells will make his season debut Tuesday after spending the year recovering from the UCL revision and brace augmentation procedure he underwent last June. The 31-year-old posted a 2.49 ERA and 1.11 WHIP alongside a 24:6 K:BB over 25.1 innings during his six rehab starts, and he built up to 6.1 frames during his most recent outing.

The Tigers removed Paddack from the rotation Tuesday and will deploy him out of the bullpen moving forward, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The right-hander's demotion to the bullpen comes after he submitted a 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB over 30 innings since the Tigers acquired him from the Twins on July 28. Paddack will give up his spot in the rotation to Sawyer Gipson-Long, who was called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Tuesday's game versus the Mets.

Soroka (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

It's the first time Soroka has faced hitters since he landed on the 15-day injured list in early August with a right shoulder strain. The right-hander has a chance to make it back before the end of the season, but he still has some ramping up to do, particularly if the Cubs want to bring him back as a starting pitcher.

The Blue Jays optioned Lucas to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Lucas has been roughed up for 18 runs over 24.1 frames with Toronto this season. He's being replaced on the roster and in the bullpen by Ryan Borucki.

Gore (shoulder) played catch Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Gore just landed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left shoulder inflammation, so it's a good sign that he's already been cleared to throw. The left-hander is hoping to return Sept. 12 when his 15 days are up, but it's too soon to know whether he'll achieve that goal.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that May will be available out of the bullpen this week, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

The Red Sox want to keep the rest of their starting pitchers on turn following Thursday's off day, so May will be available to pitch in relief, if needed. He will rejoin the rotation next week, likely during the series against the Athletics. May has been hit or miss during his five starts with Boston, posting a 5.68 ERA and 25:11 K:BB over 25.1 innings.

The Rockies claimed Contreras off waivers from the Orioles on Tuesday.

Contreras doesn't have minor-league options remaining, so he'll be added to the Rockies' 28-man active roster and will serve as a starter or long reliever. Before the Orioles designated him for assignment, Contreras tossed 4.1 scoreless innings as a bulk reliever last Wednesday against the Red Sox in what marked his 2025 MLB debut.

The Red Sox are expected to recall Harrison from Triple-A Worcester prior to Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports.

The Red Sox have yet to announce a starter for Wednesday, but Harrison is likely to slot into that spot. Acquired from the Giants in mid-June, Harrison has a 3.65 ERA and 48:26 K:BB over 49.1 innings covering 11 starts since joining Worcester, which includes a 2.00 ERA and 19:9 K:BB across his last 18 frames. Whether the lefty draws additional starts for Boston could depend on if the club wants to keep a six-man rotation for a stretch.
