Warren didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.

Warren handled a bit of reduced workload Wednesday, tossing his second-fewest pitches (79) of the year, with the sweltering heat at Yankee Stadium potentially factoring into the quick hook. It was still an encouraging bounce-back display by the right-hander, who coughed up five runs and recorded no strikeouts his last time out in Boston. Warren will carry a quality 3.73 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 91:29 K:BB over 89.1 innings into his next scheduled outing at pitcher-friendly Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

Astros manager Joe Espada said that Javier (shoulder) will be activated from the 60-day injured list Friday and work out of the bullpen, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Before landing on the IL on April 10 due to a Grade 2 shoulder strain, Javier struggled over his three starts with Houston, coughing up 13 earned runs while striking out four batters and walking nine in 9.1 innings. Javier had been building up a starter during his rehab assignment and most recently tossed six shutout innings for Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, but the Astros won't open up a spot for him in their crowded rotation. Espada noted that Javier's move to the bullpen isn't necessarily permanent, though it may take an injury to or poor performance by another starter before the 29-year-old righty receives another look in the rotation.

The Rockies recalled Hughes from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Hughes is receiving his first promotion to the major leagues. The 24-year-old has posted a 5.31 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 48:11 K:BB in 40.2 innings with Albuquerque this year. The right-hander is expected to initially work out of the bullpen despite starting in seven of his nine appearances in Triple-A. The Rockies designated John Brebbia for assignment to make room on the roster for Hughes.

Holmes could remain in Atlanta's bullpen moving forward, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Holmes made 15 starts for Atlanta before tossing four scoreless relief innings during his last appearance against the Giants on Saturday. While Holmes could make another start Thursday versus the Cardinals if Hurston Waldrep is needed in relief Wednesday, the club's preference is to keep Holmes in the bullpen. The right-hander has collected a 3.96 ERA and 69:37 K:BB over 77.1 frames this season.

The Royals transferred Bubic (elbow/shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Earlier Wednesday, Royals senior vice president Scott Sharp revealed that Bubic hit another snag in his recovery from left elbow soreness and left shoulder discomfort, though the team won't have more specifics available until the southpaw is re-evaluated in Kansas City. Since Bubic's initial placement on the IL was retroactive to May 15 and he wasn't on track to rejoin Kansas City rotation until after the All-Star break anyway, his move to the 60-day IL won't have any bearing on his timeline for a return. The transaction will temporarily bump Bubic from the 40-man roster in order to open up a spot for right-hander Jose Cuas, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha.

The Guardians promoted Doughty from High-A Lake County to Double-A Akron on Tuesday.

Cleveland will bump Doughty up to Double-A after he submitted a 3.02 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 74:11 K:BB in 59.2 innings with Lake County. As reflected in his minuscule 4.3 percent walk rate, the 20-year-old righty boasts plus control and leans heavily on his curveball to make bats miss.

Single-A Fort Myers reinstated Barr (arm) from its 60-day injured list June 23 and assigned him to the rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Barr opened the season on Fort Myers' IL after he developed a stress fracture in his right arm during spring training. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the FCL on May 25 and looks like he'll end up sticking around with the affiliate for a little while longer before potentially moving back up to the Twins' Florida State League affiliate. Through six starts in the Complex League, Barr has turned in a 6.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 12:9 K:BB in 12 innings.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that the goal is for Cabrera (hamstring) to be throwing bullpen sessions before the All-Star break, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera landed on the 15-day injured list one week ago because of a moderate left hamstring strain. If Cabrera is able to resume mound work before the break, he would seem to have a chance to rejoin the Cubs' rotation before the end of July. However, the righty needs to check off a few boxes before a clearer timeline emerges.

Scherzer (back/side) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Vancouver on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Scherzer will rejoin the Blue Jays in Seattle on Saturday following the outing and throw a bullpen session Sunday before the team determines his next step. The 41-year-old is expected to require multiple rehab starts, so he will not rejoin the Toronto rotation before the All-Star break. Scherzer has been out since mid-June with back spasms and also needed a cortisone injection for soreness in his left side. He has a 10.23 ERA in six starts for the Blue Jays in 2026.

Taillon (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Taillon has missed a little more than three weeks as he works his way back from a left hamstring strain, and he's progressed enough to test himself in a game setting. The right-hander has a chance to rejoin the Cubs rotation for one start before the All-Star break, assuming he comes out of Sunday's outing with no issues and gets his pitch count up to a sufficient level.
