Elder is expected to be called up from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Tuesday in Milwaukee, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

While Atlanta hasn't yet announced a starter for Tuesday's contest, Elder was spotted in the team's clubhouse prior to Monday's game. With Max Fried (forearm) not eligible to return from the injured list until next week and Reynaldo Lopez's (forearm) status up in the air, Elder could be needed for additional starts with the big club beyond Tuesday.

The Diamondbacks recalled Cecconi from Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

After he was optioned to Reno in mid-July, Cecconi made all three of his appearances at Triple-A as a reliever before he got called up again. However, with a spot in the rotation sitting open for this weekend's series in Pittsburgh, it's possible Cecconi will be asked to make a start or at least absorb some innings in long relief. He's posted a 6.14 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts) in the majors in 2024.

The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Diaz had three good starts at home and one poor start on the road during his first taste of the big leagues. While the overall impression was a favorable one, Diaz will head back to Reno for now. It's not clear yet how the Diamondbacks plan to fill Diaz's spot in the rotation this weekend, as Merrill Kelly (shoulder) and Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) won't be ready to return from the 60-day injured list.

Walker (finger) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Reading on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Walker has been sidelined since late June with a blister and inflammation in his right index finger, but he's finally ready to test things out in a game setting. The right-hander could potentially be ready to return next week if things go well Wednesday, although with the amount of time he's missed, it's possible he'll be asked to make an additional rehab start.

Allard will make another start this weekend in Seattle, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Allard allowed three earned runs with one strikeout over four innings in a start Sunday versus the Guardians. With Taijuan Walker (finger) not quite ready to return, Allard will be needed for one more start, which is likely to come either on Friday or Saturday.

Darvish (personal/elbow) remains without a clear timetable for his return, though the Padres remain optimistic that the right-hander will rejoin the club at some point later this season, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Darvish has been on the restricted list for the last three-plus weeks while dealing with an unspecified personal issue. His timetable to rejoin the Padres is open-ended, and given that he hasn't done any throwing in a month, it will take him awhile to be built back up. Darvish initially went on the injured list back in early June with a strained groin and more recently dealt with an elbow issue, but he was trending in a good direction health-wise before going on the restricted list.

The Cardinals acquired Fedde, outfielder Tommy Pham and a player to be named later or cash considerations on Monday in a three-team trade involving the White Sox and Dodgers, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. The White Sox acquired infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas, infielders Alexander Albertus (undisclosed) and Jeral Perez and a player to be named or cash considerations, while the Dodgers received utility man Tommy Edman (wrist) and right-handers Michael Kopech and Oliver Gonzalez.

Fedde has had a breakout season in Chicago following one year in Korea and provides an immediate boost to a Cardinals rotation that's struggled for the last several weeks. With the addition of Fedde, Andre Pallante will likely move to the bullpen. Fedde's last start with the White Sox came Saturday, so he could be ready to make his Cardinals debut as soon as Thursday in Chicago against the Cubs.

The Reds transferred Ashcraft (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

The transaction frees up 40-man roster space for catcher Eric Yang, who had his contract selected from Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Ashcraft is nursing a right elbow strain and won't be eligible to return until September, though it's possible his season is over.

Falter (tricep) struck out three batters and allowed two earned runs on five hits and no walks in three innings in his rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Falter tossed 60 pitches (42 strikes) in the rehab start, which could be the only outing he needs in the minors before making his way back from the 15-day injured list. The Pirates have an open spot in the rotation for Tuesday's game in Houston, and Falter would be available on five days' rest to fill the opening. If Falter is in fact activated to start Tuesday, he could be on a slight workload restriction for what would be his first outing with the Pirates since July 6.

Atlanta recalled Vines from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Grant Holmes is scheduled to make his first MLB start Monday, but because he hasn't covered more than 3.1 innings in his 10 appearances since joining Atlanta in mid-June, he could be on a limited pitch count in the series opener in Milwaukee. With that in mind, Vines could be needed out of the bullpen to provide length behind Holmes. Vines has been a regular member of Gwinnett's rotation this season, but he's struggled over his three outings (two starts) with the big club in 2024, giving up 11 runs on 17 hits and four walks over 12.2 innings. If he isn't needed to work behind Holmes on Monday, Vines could be a candidate to fill the opening Atlanta has in its rotation for Tuesday's contest versus the Brewers.
