  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Pulled in third inning

Wicks (0-2) allowed three runs on four hits and struck out one without walking a batter over two-plus innings to take the loss versus the Cardinals on Sunday. Wicks threw 32 of 49 pitches for strikes. All four hits were singles, but he was pulled after running into trouble the second time through the order. The southpaw has given up 11 runs over 6.1 innings while posting a 6:1 K:BB across his two starts in the majors this season. Wicks may not be needed for another start if Edward Cabrera (finger blister) is ready to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Pummeled for eight runs in loss

Wicks (0-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Pirates, allowing eight runs on nine hits and one walk with five strikeouts across 4.1 innings. Wicks was summoned from Triple-A Iowa over the weekend and drew the start in place of an injured Edward Cabrera (finger) on Tuesday. Things clearly didn't go well for the left-hander, as he allowed five runs in the first inning, including a two-run shot to Esmerlyn Valdez. Wicks was able to somewhat settle in after a rough opening frame and generated 14 swinging strikes on 80 pitches. After the poor result Tuesday, it's unclear if the Cubs will let Wicks handle another turn through the rotation this coming weekend in St. Louis.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Drawing start Tuesday

Wicks will start for the Cubs during Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports. Wicks was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday to take the roster spot vacated by the injured Edward Cabrera (finger) and will also slide into Cabrera's open rotation slot. The left-handed Wicks allowed a total of just one run over his last three starts at Iowa, though that came with a 12:8 K:BB over 15 innings. Wicks is likely to get at least one additional start this weekend in St. Louis, though that could change if he fares poorly Tuesday.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Starts up rehab assignment

Wicks (elbow) struck out two batters and allowed one hit and one walk over three scoreless innings Saturday in a rehab start for Triple-A Iowa. Heading into spring training, Wicks was expected to vie for a spot in the Cubs' Opening Day bullpen, but he was shut down early in camp with left elbow inflammation and was later placed on the injured list. Given that Wicks tossed 37 pitches in his first rehab appearance, the Cubs may now be looking to stretch him out for a starting role, after Chicago's rotation depth has already been tested early on this season. Matthew Boyd (biceps) appears likely to beat Wicks back from the IL to reclaim a rotation spot from either Javier Assad or Colin Rea, but the Cubs may still be compelled to give Wicks a look as a starter if he continues to thrive while on assignment in Iowa.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Will throw off mound next week

Wicks (forearm) is slated to throw off a mound next week, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports. Wicks was diagnosed with radial nerve irritation in his left forearm over the weekend, but the inflammation in his pitching arm has since dissipated. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said previously that Wicks would likely begin the season on the injured list and that's presumably still the case, but it seems the lefty's absence won't be an extended one.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Sent to Arizona complex

The Cubs optioned Wicks to the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. After posting a 7.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP across 11.1 innings with the big club this season, Wicks will head down to the Cubs' facility in Arizona to stay sharp now that the minor-league season is over. His departure clears room on the active roster for Daniel Palencia's (shoulder) return from the injured list.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Back in majors

Wicks was recalled from Triple-A Iowa prior to Saturday's game against the Reds. Wicks will return as left-handed bullpen depth after compiling a 3.55 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 71 innings operating as a starter who typically pitches fewer than five innings. He has an 8.71 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 10.1 innings in the majors this year.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Returns to Triple-A

The Cubs optioned Wicks to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. The left-hander was called up by Chicago last weekend and made two appearances, giving up one run across two innings. Wicks could rejoin the big club for the closing stretch of the regular season but will return to Triple-A for now.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Back in bigs

The Cubs recalled Wicks from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Wicks served as the 27th man in Wednesday's doubleheader before being returned to Iowa. Just a couple of days later, he'll join the 26-man roster in place of Javier Assad. Wicks should work out of the bullpen, a role in which he's struggled during 2025 while compiling a 9.72 ERA across 8.1 innings with Chicago.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Returned to minors

Wicks was returned to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, MLB.com reports. Wicks served as the 27th man for the Cubs' doubleheader Tuesday, though he didn't appear in either contest. He's been effective as a starter with Iowa this season, but he has a bloated 9.72 ERA and 2.40 WHIP across 8.1 innings in the majors.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Up for twin bill

The Cubs recalled Wicks from Triple-A Iowa to serve as the 27th man for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers. The left-hander will come up to provide some bullpen help for Tuesday's nightcap. Wicks has made just four appearances in the big leagues this year and has given up nine earned runs over 8.1 innings, though he has a 3.62 ERA in 17 outings (14 starts) for Iowa.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Optioned to Iowa

The Cubs optioned Wicks to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports. After getting blown up for six runs on 10 hits and a walk over three innings during Friday's game, Wicks will head back to the minors in order to get back on track. Brooks Kriske will come up from Iowa to replace Wicks in Chicago's bullpen.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Picks up first hold

Wicks tossed 3.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn a hold in Sunday's 11-0 win over the Cardinals. He allowed three hits and struck out two. The Cubs jumped out to a big lead early in the contest, so starter Matthew Boyd was pulled after only five innings and 87 pitches. That opened the door for Wicks, who was effective in the middle part of the game to record his first hold of the season. The lefty had just been recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, and this was his first appearance in the majors since April 20. Wicks worked as a starter for the Cubs each of the last two years as well as this season in the minors, but it appears he may settle into a long relief role for the time being.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Takes loss Sunday

Wicks (0-1) allowed two unearned runs on three hits across two innings of work to take the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks. He struck out two. Wicks worked the 10th and 11th innings in an eventual 3-2 defeat, and he allowed an unearned run in each inning to ultimately take his first loss of the season. The lefty was just recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, and he's now allowed five runs (three earned) across two appearances. Wicks figures to work as a low-leverage arm for the Cubs until further notice.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Optioned to minors

The Cubs optioned Wicks to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Ryan Herrera of JustBaseball.com reports. Wicks was included on the Cubs' roster for their two-game set in Tokyo versus the Dodgers earlier this week, but he didn't make the cut for their domestic opener. The left-hander will be part of the rotation at Iowa as he waits for another big-league opportunity. With Wicks being sent down, Colin Rea appears to be locked into the fifth spot in the Cubs' rotation.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Strikes out three in spring start

Wicks allowed two runs on four hits across 2.2 innings in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Angels. He struck out three. Wicks was making his second start of the spring slate, and while he allowed runs for the first time, it's encouraging to see him on the mound and looking comfortable after he dealt with an oblique strain toward the end of last season. If the lefty is fully healthy, he could push for a spot at the back of Chicago's rotation, particularly with Javier Assad (oblique) uncertain for the start of the regular season.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Falls to Yankees

Wicks (2-3) took the loss Friday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out four. All three runs against Wicks came in the third inning, when four straight batters reached safely to open the frame against the left-hander. The 25-year-old has allowed four runs over 10 innings in two starts since returning from a nearly three-month stint on the IL due to a strained oblique. Overall, Wicks' ERA sits at 4.03 on the season with a 1.42 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB across 38 innings. He's currently lined up for a tough road matchup with the Dodgers in his next outing.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Picks up win in return

Wicks (2-2) pitched five innings of one-run ball to pick up the win Sunday against Washington, allowing four hits and zero walks while striking out zero. Making his first start since June 14, Wicks breezed through the Washington lineup, using just 69 pitches to get through five frames. Things got dicey for Wicks in the second inning when he allowed the bases to be loaded with zero out, but he induced a double play and a flyout to limit the damage to one run. The 25-year-old landed on the 60-day IL back in June with an oblique strain after pitching to a 4.18 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB in 28 innings (six starts) before the injury. After throwing a modest 69 pitches on Sunday, expect Wicks workload to ramp up moving forward, starting with next weekend's scheduled start against the Yankees.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Activated to start Sunday's game

The Cubs reinstated Wicks (oblique) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Nationals in Washington. Chicago recalled infielder Nick Madrigal (hand) from Triple-A Iowa and placed him on the 60-day IL to reopen a spot on the 40-man roster for Wicks, who is set to make his first appearance for the big club since June 14. After a lengthy shutdown while he recovered from a right oblique strain, Wicks began a rehab assignment with Iowa on Aug. 10 and struggled in his first two starts, but he returned to excellent form in his final two outings with the affiliate, covering 8.2 scoreless innings and recording eight strikeouts between those starts. He built up to 73 pitches in his final start with Iowa and shouldn't face much of a restriction with his workload Sunday as he slots back into Chicago's rotation.

  • Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Looks ready to return from IL

Wicks (oblique) struck out four batters over 4.2 scoreless innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Iowa. He scattered three hits and one walk. Between his first two rehab outings at Iowa, Wicks surrendered four home runs and walked four batters while covering just 3.2 innings, but he's been much more dialed in his subsequent two starts for the Triple-A club while increasing the volume of his pitches. He built up to 73 pitches Sunday and looks like he'll be ready to return from the 60-day injured list to make his next start with the big club, providing he experiences no setbacks with his oblique coming out of his next throwing session. The Cubs have yet to confirm their plans for Wicks, but he'll presumably either be part of a six-man rotation or replace Kyle Hendricks as the club's No. 5 starter.
