  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Participates in throwing session

Ryu (groin) tossed 25 pitches from a mound Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Ryu remains on the disabled list since suffering a groin strain May 2 against Arizona, although he continues to make progress. An exact timetable for his return is yet to be determined, but he's expected to be activated off the 60-day DL sometime during the second half of the season.

  • Luke Farrell RP | WAS

Cubs' Luke Farrell: Headed to minors

Farrell was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Farrell has posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with a 37:14 K:BB over 28 innings this season. He'll make his way to the minor leagues despite tossing four straight scoreless appearances out of the bullpen.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Activated from disabled list

Buehler was reinstated from the 10-day DL ahead of Friday's start versus the Angels, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.

As expected, Buehler will take the hill for the series opener after spending the past 10 days on the shelf due to a right rib microfracture. In a corresponding move, Pat Venditte was sent down to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Plays catch Friday

Darvish (shoulder) participated in light throwing prior to Friday's game against the Padres, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Darvish has yet to progress past playing catch, although it's good news that he's managed to throw without feeling discomfort. A clear timetable for his return is unclear, but he'll certainly remain on the disabled list at least until after the All-Star break.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Lands on DL

Senzatela (finger) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday.

After being scratched from his scheduled start Friday against Seattle, Senzatela will hit the shelf with a blister on his throwing hand. The injury isn't expected to force him to miss more than the minimum, so he should return shortly after the All-Star break.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Confirmed as Saturday's starter

Gray will be recalled prior to Saturday's matchup and get the start against Seattle.

Gray was surprisingly shipped to the minor leagues at the end of June after making 17 starts for the Rockies this season. He posted a 5.77 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with a 119:29 K:BB over 92 innings. With both Antonoia Senzatela (finger) and Chad Bettis (finger) on the 10-day disabled list, Gray will have another chance to show he belongs in the starting rotation.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: On pitch count Friday

Syndergaard will be limited to about 80-85 pitches against the Nationals on Friday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

This should not come as a surprise as Syndergaard is making his first start since May 25. During his lone rehab appearance, the right-hander lasted five innings, allowing just one run with short-season Brooklyn.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Scratched with blister

Senzatela was scratched from his scheduled start Friday against the Mariners with a blister on his middle finger, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Jeff Hoffman will start in Senzatela's place. If Senzatela ends up needing to miss more than three days, he won't be in line to start until after the All-Star break. It's possible he could be bumped from the rotation entirely at that point, with Chad Bettis potentially ready to return from his own blister, while Jon Gray could be recalled at any time.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Recalled from minors

Woodruff was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Friday.

Woodruff will provide some added depth this weekend as the Brewers are set to play four games in the next three days against Pittsburgh. Through nine appearances (four starts) with Milwaukee this year, Woodruff has posted a 5.01 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 23 strikeouts across 23.1 innings. The right-hander hasn't pitched since July 2 at the Triple-A level, so he will be fresh out of the bullpen for this weekend.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Sent back to Triple-A

Houser was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Friday.

Houser was up for just one day and had a poor showing, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in just two innings Thurdsay against the Pirates. Brandon Woodruff was recalled in a corresponding move.
