  • Rockies' German Marquez: Roughed up by Cubs

Marquez (6-3) allowed eight earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five across 5.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Cubs.

Marquez cruised through four scoreless innings, allowing only two singles. However, he ran into trouble in the fifth frame by allowing three consecutive hits, the final one a three-run homer by David Bote. Matters only worsened for Marquez in the sixth, as he allowed five of the first six batters to reach base before being pulled. Marquez has been inconsistent through 15 starts, allowing four or more earned runs on six occasions. Still, he's flashed enough skill to maintain a 4.07 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 88 strikeouts across 90.2 innings for the season. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, a rematch against the Cubs on Monday.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Goes seven strong

Alcantara (3-5) allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out five across seven innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Brewers.

Alcantara held the Brewers to just one extra-base hit in the contest -- an RBI double by Orlando Arcia in the second inning -- and otherwise limited self-inflicted damage. Most importantly, he handed out only one free pass after surrendering multiple walks in six of his last seven starts. He backed up the improved control by starting 14 of the 24 batters he faced with a strike. Despite the strong effort, Alcantara still has a troubling 46:32 K:BB across 71 innings on the campaign, though his 3.80 ERA and 1.35 WHIP are respectable. He'll look to turn in another strong start in his next appearance, which is currently scheduled for Monday against St. Louis.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Starting Sunday

Wainwright will start Sunday's game against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Wainwright originally lined up to start Saturday, but he'll get an extra day off following the postponement of Wednesday's game due to rain. The 37-year-old fired eight two-hit innings versus the Cubs on Monday and will look to replicate that performance at Wrigley Field this weekend.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Not pitching Thursday

Mahle won't start Thursday's series finale against the Cardinals following Wednesday's postponement.

Wednesday's scheduled pitcher Anthony DeSclafani will instead take the mound for the Reds with an additional day of rest. The team has yet to announce when Mahle will return to the mound, but two scheduled off days next week means the Reds could operate without a fifth starter until June 18.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Game postponed Wednesday

DeSclafani won't make his scheduled start at St. Louis on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

DeSclafani will simply receive an additional day of rest and will start in Thursday's series finale versus the Cardinals.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Start moved up

Senzatela will start Friday against the Mets, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Senzatela was originally scheduled to start Saturday against the Mets, but he'll instead start Friday's series opener in order to allow Jon Gray an extra day to recover from a blister issue. The right-hander last pitched Sunday against the Blue Jays, so he'll be on his normal amount of rest for Friday's start.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Start pushed to Saturday

Gray will start Saturday against the Mets, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Gray felt a "hot spot" on his middle finger during his most recent start, so the Rockies want to give him a couple of extra days of rest before sending him back out to the mound. Peter Lambert will take the mound Thursday against the Cubs as a result, with Antonio Senzatela starting Friday's series opener in New York. Assuming Gray checks out okay during a between-starts bullpen session in the coming days, he shouldn't face any restrictions during Saturday's outing.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Candidate to start Sunday

Wacha is a candidate to start Sunday against the Cubs, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

The Cardinals have an opening in their rotation following the demotion of Genesis Cabrera, and Wacha is a candidate for the job. After struggling in his first relief appearance following his move to the bullpen, the right-hander fired 2.1 scoreless innings in a loss to the Reds on Tuesday, allowing just two hits while striking out three.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Throws bullpen session

Williams (side) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Williams is working his way back from a side strain which has sidelined him since mid-May. He'll throw a simulated game Saturday, at which point the Pirates could decide on the next steps in his recovery.

  • Merrill Kelly SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Next start coming Friday

Kelly is scheduled to start Friday against the Blue Jays, Jody Jackson of FOX Sports Arizona reports.

Kelly will flip places in the rotation with Zack Greinke, who is dealing with a stiff neck. The 30-year-old Kelly started Sunday against the Mets, so he'll be on his regular amount of rest for Friday's series opener. Through 12 starts this season, the right-hander owns a 4.41 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 55:23 K:BB in 67.1 innings.
