  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Hit hard in loss

Musgrove (8-10) gave up eight runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out five through 3.1 innings to take the loss against the Mets on Sunday.

Musgrove allowed two home runs in the first inning and continued to get hit hard as he gave up five more runs in his next 2.1 frames. Musgrove has allowed five or more runs eight times this season and three of those have come in his last five starts. The 26-year-old has a 4.69 ERA with 109 strikeouts through 23 starts this season. Musgrove will make his next start Saturday against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Delivers quality start in win

Syndergaard (8-5) gave up one run on three hits and one walk while striking out three through seven innings to take the win over the Pirates on Sunday.

Syndergaard cruised through six scoreless innings before allowing his only run in his final frame. Syndergaard has pitched at least seven innings in five consecutive starts and has a 1.78 ERA since the All-Star break. The 26-year-old has a 3.96 ERA with 140 strikeouts through 22 starts this season. Syndergaard will make his next start Saturday against the Nationals at Citi Field.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Phillies' Drew Smyly: Falls to 2-6

Smyly (2-6) took the loss after surrendering five runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings Sunday against the White Sox.

Chicago struck for five runs in the second inning, four of which came on a grand slam with two outs in the frame. After faring well in each of his first two outings with the Phillies (one earned run over 13 innings), Smyly took a step back during Sunday's finale. The southpaw owns a 7.01 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with 72 strikeouts over 69.1 innings this season

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Shuts down White Sox

Nola improved his record to 10-2 after holding the White Sox to one run over seven innings in the Phillies' 3-2 victory Saturday. He scattered three hits and two walks and struck out 10 in the 94-pitch outing.

Nola induced 16 swings-and-misses on the day en route to notching his fourth double-digit strikeout performance of the season. Though his ERA and WHIP have jumped considerably in 2019, Nola's 26.9 percent strikeout rate is right on par with his mark from 2018 (27 percent). He also retains an outside chance at matching the career-best 17 wins he notched a season ago if he can maintain the dominant form he's shown of late in addition to receiving quality run support over the final two months of the campaign.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Battles through illness

Darvish (4-5) secured the win after allowing one run on five hits while striking out eight over five innings Sunday against Milwaukee.

Darvish certainly didn't show any signs of illness during his outing, surrendering just one run in the first on a Christian Yelich solo blast, though skipper Joe Madden stated after the game that Darvish was "pretty much gassed." The 32-year-old right-hander will be considered day-to-day heading into his next outing, which lines up for Friday in Cincinnati.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Rehab assignment on tap

Stripling (biceps) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday.

Stripling is scheduled to throw two innings followed by an additional frame in the bullpen, and he could subsequently return to the majors if all goes well. The 29-year-old landed on the injured list July 27 with right biceps tendinitis, so he may not need to get stretched out given the brief break from throwing.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Three weeks from bullpen session

Hill (forearm) said Sunday he expects to start throwing bullpen sessions in three weeks, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Hill landed on the injured list June 20 with a left forearm strain and began his throwing program in mid-July. The veteran southpaw has been eyeing a September return to the Dodgers and that still appears feasible, especially if he comes back as a reliever and doesn't have to get fully stretched out as a starter.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Carried by offense to 10th win

Ray (10-7) picked up the win in Saturday's 18-7 rout of the Nationals, allowing four runs on six hits over five innings while striking out five.

It wasn't the most effective outing from the southpaw, but the D-backs offense backed Ray with five runs in the first three innings and didn't slow down from there. He'll take a 4.03 ERA and 178:58 K:BB through 134 innings into his next start Friday, on the road against the Dodgers.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Ambushed by Arizona

Strasburg (14-5) took the loss Saturday, surrendering nine runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out seven as the Nationals were routed 18-7 by the Diamondbacks.

The right-hander hadn't allowed any homers at all in his prior six starts, and he's only been taken deep multiple times in one other outing since mid-April -- a June 15 start in which the D-backs hammered him for four long balls. All told, Arizona has accounted for nearly half of the home runs Strasburg has served up this season, and he has a 2.99 ERA against the rest of baseball (and a 13.96 mark versus Arizona). With no more series against his nemeses left on the Nats' schedule, Strasburg will look to get back on track in his next start Friday, on the road against the Mets.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Early exit in no-decision

Gray didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Giants, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings while striking out five.

All four runs scored in the first inning, and while Gray settled down after that, he still checked out of the game early after throwing 96 pitches (61 strikes). The right-hander will take a 4.03 ERA and 139:54 K:BB through 136.1 innings into his next start Thursday in San Diego.
