  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Dodgers' Alex Wood: Slated for more sim games

Wood (shoulder) is expected to throw a three-inning simulated game Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Wood has been steadily advancing in his throwing program while he recovers from shoulder inflammation that has kept him sidelined since the end of July. If his sim game goes well Tuesday, he could throw a bullpen session at the end of the week followed by a four-inning sim game after that.

  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Remains on track for Wednesday

Gomber (illness) is on track to "be activated soon, with an eye toward Wednesday's doubleheader" according to manager Mike Shildt, the Associated Press reports.

There was talk of a potential activation for Gomber prior to Monday's doubleheader. However, it now seems the left-hander is on track to come off the COVID-19 injured list in time to handle a start in Wednesday's twin bill, with Jeff Jones of the Belleville News Democrat reporting Gomber arrived in Chicago on Monday and was doing some workouts with elastic bands at Wrigley Field. Gomber has reportedly not registered a positive COVID-19 test -- his placement on the list is apparently due to exposure to someone with the coronavirus -- so there shouldn't be any residual physical issues that could affect his performance. Gomber has fired 3.1 scoreless innings across two appearances thus far in 2020, both in relief, but he logged 11 starts at the major-league level for the Cardinals back in 2018 before spending the entirety of 2019 in the minors.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

    Giants' Tyler Anderson: No-decision Monday

Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Monday's game between the Giants and the Angels. He allowed five runs on eight hits and one walk while fanning eight across five innings.

Anderson notched a season-high mark in strikeouts that came out of nowhere, as he had racked up 10 total punchouts in his previous four starts. That said, it did not matter much as the Angels did damage when they put bat to ball. Anderson has allowed nine earned runs and 13 hits in his last 10 innings across his past two starts, and that doesn't bode well for his upcoming start scheduled for Aug. 22 at home against Arizona.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Sharp in relief Monday

Ynoa gave up two hits and struck out four over three scoreless innings of relief during Monday's 7-6 win over the Nationals.

The right-hander was the only one of the four pitchers Atlanta used not to give up a run. Ynoa threw 48 pitches (29 strikes), which could leave him unavailable to pitch for a few days. With Atlanta not scheduled to need a fifth starter again until September, Ynoa should continue to work in long relief over the next couple weeks.

  • Braves' Touki Toussaint: Early exit Monday

Toussaint didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 7-6 win over the Nationals, giving up four runs on two hits and six walks over three innings. He struck out four.

His control issues were exacerbated by the fact that both hits he gave up left the yard, but the damage could have been a lot worse, and Toussaint was taken off the hook for the loss by a ninth-inning rally. The erratic right-hander now has a 7.97 ERA and 27:11 K:BB through 20.1 innings, and he'll try to turn things around in his next outing Saturday, at home against the Phillies.

  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Dominant in no-decision

Gallen allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out eight over seven innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Monday.

Gallen, who threw 60 strikes among his 97 pitches, tossed his fourth consecutive quality start. He's yet to allow more than two runs in any of his five starts, but the right-hander is still seeking his first win. The next opportunity to get that first "W" is Saturday on the road in San Francisco.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Struggles in no-decision

Stripling gave up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and struck out two in three innings versus the Mariners on Monday. He did not factor in the decision.

Stripling was spotted a four-run lead after two innings, but he gave it all back after allowing three homers in the third. The 30-year-old has struggled to pitch deep into games his last two times out, lasting just 7.2 innings combined in that span. The right-hander has a 5.61 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 25.2 innings this season. Stripling is expected to make his next start Sunday versus the Rockies.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Padres' Zach Davies: Snags third win

Davies (3-2) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks over five innings Monday, striking out six and earning the win over Texas.

San Diego's offense exploded for 14 runs Monday, so Davies had plenty of breathing room. He allowed just two runs through five innings but left after allowing a leadoff single in the sixth to Danny Santana, who came around to score and charge Davies with his third run. The 27-year-old will carry a 3.25 ERA into Sunday's home start against Houston.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Quality start in loss

Freeland (2-1) allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out five over six innings, but took the loss Monday versus the Astros.

Freeland gave up a two-run double to Carlos Correa in a tough first inning, and that was enough to stick the southpaw with his first loss this year. Through 31.2 innings, Freeland has a 2.56 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 18 strikeouts. Monday was his first appearance where he didn't walk a batter. He'll hope for more run support when he faces the Dodgers on Saturday.

  • Humberto Mejia SP | NYM

Marlins' Humberto Mejia: Expected to start Tuesday

Mejia will likely start Tuesday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The ballclub has yet to recall Mejia from the alternate training site, but he appears to be the favorite to toe the rubber Tuesday following a pair of moves Monday evening. Mejia has appeared in one game this season, surrendering one run on two hits and two walks while fanning six over 2.1 innings Aug. 7 against the Mets.
