  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Tosses seven strong frames

Webb (2-2) earned the win Friday against the Diamondbacks after tossing seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out eight.

Webb posted a season-high mark for strikeouts and managed to bounce back after a shaky outing in his previous start, when he walked five in just 4.1 innings. Webb has a 8.6 K/9 this season but is also issuing 3.6 BB/9, so he should post even better numbers if he finds a way to limit the walks. He seems to be trending in the right direction, walking one or fewer in three of his last four starts.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Earns win over Rockies

Buehler (1-0) earned the win Friday over the Rockies. He tossed six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and striking out 11.

Buehler recorded double-digit strikeouts for the eighth time in his career -- he hadn't accomplished this feat since Sept. 10 last year when he fanned 11 in a 7-3 win at Baltimore. Buehler hasn't looked convincing this season, but he has allowed two or fewer runs in three of five starts while posting a 10.1 K/9 in 25 innings across his first five outings.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Struggles against Dodgers

Gray (1-3) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Dodgers after allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks across 3.2 innings. He didn't strike out anyone.

Gray didn't record a single strikeout for the first time since 2015 -- excluding relief appearances -- and he had all sorts of problems against one of the top lineups in the National League. He's now allowed three or more runs in four straight starts and will try to bounce back in his next start, scheduled for Wednesday on the road against the Diamondbacks.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Issues five walks in loss

Ray (1-3) took the loss to San Francisco on Friday. He allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out eight over five innings.

Ray was hurt by excessive walks once again and now leads the majors with 25 free passes allowed. The left-hander danced around trouble immediately, loading the bases in both of the first two innings, but he avoided significant damage. He was also hurt by the long ball, permitting a pair of two-run homers, giving him nine allowed in 27 innings. Ray lugs an 8.33 ERA into his next start Wednesday at home against Colorado.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Allows eight hits Friday

Corbin (2-2) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out nine over 6.1 innings as he was charged with the loss Friday against the Marlins.

Corbin was quite effective over his first three starts of the season, but he's now been charged with back-to-back losses. He tallied a season-high nine strikeouts against the Marlins, but a second-inning rally by Miami put Corbin in line for the loss. The southpaw now carries a 3.99 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 29.1 innings this season. He'll attempt to return to the win column at home Wednesday against the Phillies.

  • Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Earns win in relief

Lorenzen (1-1) allowed one walk and struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Friday versus the Cardinals.

Lorenzen produced just his third scoreless outing in nine appearances this year. His ERA dropped to 8.71 with a 1.55 WHIP and 10 strikeouts over 10.1 innings. The 28-year-old's last two appearances have come in lower-leverage situations -- he has a hold and a blown save in 2020, but isn't likely to see many save chances.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Gives up two runs in no-decision

DeSclafani allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Friday. He struck out two.

It wasn't a spectacular outing for DeSclafani -- the four walks were a season-high for the righty -- but he left the Reds in a good position. A pinch-hit grand slam from Matt Davidson took DeSclafani off the hook. He's posted a 5.71 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in 17.1 innings. The 30-year-old lines up to face the Brewers on the road Thursday.

  • Alvaro Seijas SP | STL

Cardinals' Alvaro Seijas: Removed from 40-man roster

Seijas was outrighted off the Cardinals' 40-man roster and removed from the 60-man player pool Friday.

Seijas was added to the 40-man roster in November to protect him from the Rule 5 draft and began the season by working at the team's secondary camp in Springfield. Across 24 starts in the lower levels of the minors last season, the right-hander posted a 2.81 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 134.1 innings.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cubs' Jose Quintana: Completes simulated game

Quintana (thumb) threw a 28-pitch simulated game Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

The 31-year-old was already ruled out for the weekend series against the White Sox, but the light simulated game could allow him to rejoin the rotation Tuesday at Detroit. Manager Joe Ross indicated the team will wait to see how Quintana responds after Friday's session before officially determining his next step.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Return plan in flux

Martinez (illness) threw a bullpen session as scheduled Thursday, but his exact plan for activation is still in process, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander is in the process of building his arm back up after overcoming a bout with coronavirus, and in an effort to speed up his return, Rogers reports the Cardinals could initially reintegrate him as a reliever. Martinez notably enjoyed considerable success while serving as a closer in the second half of the 2019 campaign, and he could conceivably fill a number of bullpen roles temporarily upon activation.
