Cardinals' Kwang-Hyun Kim: Logs another strong start

Kim allowed one unearned run on three hits and a walk across six innings as the Cardinals fell to the Pirates in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.

Kim allowed an RBI single to Jacob Stallings in the fourth, but it was an unearned run due to a throwing error by Brad Miller. The rookie has now allowed just one earned run across 15.2 innings in his three starts since the Cardinals resumed play following their COVID-19 outbreak. Kim will take an outstanding 1.08 ERA and 0.90 WHIP into his start in Cincinnati on Tuesday.

  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Takes loss vs. Dodgers

Webb (2-3) took the loss in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks across 3.2 innings pitched. He struck out four.

Webb was coming off a strong outing in which he allowed just two runs in seven innings against the Diamondbacks, but he couldn't build on the performance when he faced the Dodgers on Thursday. The right-hander allowed a run in the first inning before temporarily settling in for scoreless frames in the second and third. However, a walk and three hits led to three more runs for Los Angeles in the fourth. Webb will look to bounce back as he takes a 4.35 ERA into his start against the Rockies on Wednesday.

Gausman got the nod in the second half of Thursday's doubleheader and was pulled in the fifth after throwing his 93rd pitch. The right-hander was largely victimized by Joc Pederson, who homered in the second inning, then doubled and scored in the fourth. Otherwise, Gausman limited the Dodgers' damage despite taking his second loss of the season. The 29-year-old will carry a 4.54 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into a tough matchup at Coors Field on Tuesday.

Kershaw has allowed just two runs and struck out 21 while winning his last three starts. The southpaw has his ERA down to a dazzling 1.80 to go along with a 0.77 WHIP. Although it will be in an abbreviated campaign, the 32-year-old has a a strong opportunity to post his best season numbers since 2016. Kershaw will take the ball once again Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Gonsolin will start Sunday's game against the Rangers, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

The outing was Oviedo's second career start, and it's unclear when he may take another turn in the rotation as the team has no scheduled doubleheaders until Sept. 5.
