  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Spins six scoreless frames

Kershaw (5-1) picked up the win Thursday after holding the Diamondbacks scoreless across six innings. He allowed one hit and a pair of walks while striking out eight.

Kershaw was lights-out en route to his fourth consecutive win and the Dodgers' 10th straight. By recording eight more strikeouts, the 32-year-old became the third-youngest pitcher in major-league history to reach the 2,500-strikeout milestone. Kershaw has been nothing short of dominant this season, compiling a brilliant 1.50 ERA and 0.72 WHIP across six starts. The southpaw will take the mound again for a rematch with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Could return Tuesday

Martinez (illness) is a candidate to be activated from the COVID-19 injured list and start Tuesday against the Twins, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The right-hander has been progressively building his arm back up in order to return as a starter, with his latest effort in that regard a four-inning simulated game Wednesday. The Cardinals will work through their existing rotation over a five-game weekend series against the Cubs that begins Friday, setting the stage for Martinez to likely handle one of the two games in Tuesday's twin bill.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Takes tough loss in Padres debut

Clevinger (0-1) took the loss against the Angels on Thursday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk in six innings while striking out two.

Clevinger was effective in his first start in a Padres uniform, notching his third quality start of the campaign and yielding only a pair of runs. However, he was outmatched by opposing starter Andrew Heaney, who shut out the league's top scoring offense over seven frames. Though Clevinger managed a season-low two strikeouts in the contest, he worked his way around eight baserunners with the help of a double play and two runners thrown out by catcher Austin Nola attempting to steal second base. Clevinger's next turn will come Tuesday when he faces Colorado at home.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

    Phillies' Zach Eflin: Takes no-decision

Eflin allowed four earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out five across six innings Thursday against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision.

Eflin pitched well for the majority of the afternoon, with the majority of the damage coming on an inside-the-park home run by Trea Turner in the third inning. He generated only six swinging strikes, but now has at least five punchouts in all six of his starts this season. Overall, he has a 4.45 ERA with a 42:8 K:BB across 32.1 innings. He'll take his next turn through the rotation Tuesday against Boston.

  • Pirates' JT Brubaker: Picks up first career win

Brubaker (1-0) picked up the win Thursday against the Cubs, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out five.

Although he had to work around some trouble, the right-hander was able to hold the Cubs to just one earned run on the way to his first big-league victory. Two hits and a walk led to a Chicago run in the second. Brubaker was able to limit the Cubs to just one more unearned run in the third, despite allowing two hits and needing to work around a fielding error during the frame. The 26-year-old will take a 3.96 ERA into his start against the White Sox on Wednesday.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Set to open series vs. Cubs

Flaherty will start Friday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrats reports.

Flaherty last pitched Saturday against the Indians, so he will be on five days of rest when he takes the mound at Wrigley Field on Friday. The right-hander will look to continue a strong stretch in which he's allowed just one run in his last 10 innings. Adam Wainwright will pitch Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, with Dakota Hudson toeing the rubber for the second half of the twin bill.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Reinstated from paternity list

Woodruff was reinstated from the paternity list Thursday.

Woodruff rejoins the Brewers' roster after being placed on the paternity list Monday. The right-hander did not miss a start and is slated to take the ball Saturday against Cleveland. He will look to improve upon his last outing, in which he allowed four runs while taking the loss to the Pirates.

  • Quinn Priester SP | MIL

Pirates' Quinn Priester: Gets spot in roster pool

The Pirates added Priester to their 60-man roster pool Wednesday.

He'll be bound for the Pirates' alternate training site in Altoona, allowing the organization to monitor his development more closely with no minor-league season taking place in 2020. A first-round pick in the 2019 first-year player draft, the 19-year-old Priester posted a 3.19 ERA and 41:14 K:BB over his 36.2 innings at the rookie-ball level last season.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: No-decision Wednesday

Buehler didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's game between the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks. He tossed five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk while fanning six.

Buehler has been pitching extremely well over his last two starts, allowing just one run across his last 11 innings. Buehler posted a 5.21 ERA in his first four starts, but he has improved that figure to a 3.60 mark after his last two strong outings following a stint on the injured list with a blister on his right hand.

  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Lowers ERA in no-decision

Gallen allowed one hit and two walks while striking out seven over seven-plus scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Gallan and Los Angeles' Walker Beuhler had an old-fashioned pitching duel at Dodger Stadium, and the Diamondbacks right-hander did not allow a runner to get as far as second base. Getting in front of hitters -- he was ahead 0-2 or 1-2 after three pitches to 18 of the 24 batters faced -- Gallen made a 1-0 lead hold up and lowered his ERA to 1.80. Unfortunately, the Arizona bullpen coughed up the lead in the bottom of the ninth. Gallen, who has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any of his 23 MLB starts, will look to extend that streak next Monday on the road against the Giants.
