Cardinals' Johan Oviedo: Fans five over 4.2 frames
Oviedo allowed three runs on three hits and one walk over 4.2 innings during Wednesday's loss at Cincinnati. He had five strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
Oviedo gave up only one run through four-plus frames, but a two-run homer from Tucker Barnhart and a hit by pitch spelled an end to his outing during the fifth inning. The 22-year-old has a 4.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB through 14 innings, and he lines up to pitch Monday against the Cubs.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Dominates Nats for fourth win
Wheeler (4-0) pitched 6.2 shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six Wednesday evening en route to his fourth win of the season.
Wheeler has been lights-out all season, but Wednesday's outing may have been his best one thus far. He gave up three hits, which were the fewest he's allowed in a start this season, and it was the first time he's blanked an opponent in seven tries during the shortened campaign. Wheeler's 2.20 ERA is good for ninth among starters in baseball as he'll look to continue his dominance in his next start Monday against the Mets.

Tyler Mahle SP | ATL
Reds' Tyler Mahle: Provides seven strong frames
Mahle gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over seven innings during Wednesday's win over the Cardinals. He had three strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
The right-hander was unable to replicate the 11 strikeouts from he previous start, but he held St. Louis in check besides a pair of solo homers from Brad Miller and Yadier Molina. Mahle lines up to face the Cubs next week with a 3.90 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB across 30 innings.

David Peterson SP | CHC
Mets' David Peterson: Earns win in relief
Peterson (4-1) earned the win Wednesday in Baltimore after allowing two hits with one strikeout and two walks over four scoreless innings.
The 25-year-old made one start after returning from the injured list last week before getting shifted to the bullpen, but he ended up grabbing the win in his first outing as a reliever. Peterson has a 3.03 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 29.2 innings this season, though his 21:13 K:BB leaves something to be desired. He'll be unavailable for the next few days after throwing 59 pitches.
-
Michael Wacha SP | KC
Mets' Michael Wacha: Lasts only three frames
Wacha allowed two runs on four hits and one walk over three innings Wednesday in Baltimore. He had two strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
The veteran right-hander wasn't espcially sharp in his second start back off the injured list, needing 69 pitches to record only nine outs. Wacha has a 7.20 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB over 20 innings and lines up to pitch against the Phillies on Monday.

Sixto Sanchez SP | MIA
Marlins' Sixto Sanchez: Gives up two in tough loss
Sanchez (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits (one home run) while striking out five across seven innings as he was handed the first loss of his young career Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Sanchez went toe-to-toe with Hyun-Jin Ryu, a 2019 National League Cy Young finalist, but his offense could not bear him any support on the scoreboard. Sanchez's lone mistake was serving up a two-run home run to Lourdes Gurriel in the fifth as he was otherwise quite efficient, throwing 79 pitches (56 strikes) in seven innings. The hard-throwing righty is scheduled next for a tough road matchup against the Braves.
-
Logan Webb SP | SF
Giants' Logan Webb: Unable to hold lead
Webb gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings during Wednesday's 9-6 loss at Colorado. He had five strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
The offense staked him a four-run lead during the first inning, but the Rockies tallied two runs during the sixth inning to tied the score at 4-4 and end his afternoon. Webb has a 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB over 36.1 innings and lines up to face the Mariners on Tuesday.
-
Joe Musgrove SP | SD
Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Sunk by bullpen
Musgrove (0-4) allowed two earned runs on three hits and no walks while striking out four across three innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Cubs.
Musgrove was making his first start since Aug. 4, and was limited to just 46 pitches. He fared well through three innings, racking up four strikeouts while also generating five ground ball outs. Musgrove came back out to start the fifth inning but surrendered a single and double prior to being yanked. Nick Tropeano came in and promptly surrendered a three-run homer, charging Musgrove with two earned runs in the process. Musgrove will look to build on this effort in his next outing, currently projected to come Tuesday against the White Sox.
-
Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA
Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Earns fourth win
Hendricks (4-4) allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks while striking out six across six innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Pirates.
Hendricks allowed seven baserunners through four innings, but limited the Pirates to just two extra-base hits to avoid any major damage. Despite the strong performance, Hendricks did allow a solo home run to Colin Moran, and has now surrendered at least one long ball in each of his last four starts. Despite that, Hendricks maintains a solid 3.78 ERA with a 40:6 K:BB across 50 innings this season. He's in line to draw his next start Monday against St. Louis.

Kyle Freeland SP | COL
Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Another rough outing
Freeland didn't factor in the decision Wednesday against the Giants after allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk over two innings.
The left-hander surrendered only 32 hits and 12 runs across his first six starts, but in his last two outings he's given up 19 hits and eight runs over 6.1 innings. Freeland has a 4.09 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB over 44 innings and has a tough matchup early next week in San Diego.
