Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Fans nine over eight innings
Eflin (4-2) earned the win Wednesday against the Nationals after allowing three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over eight innings.
The right-hander dominated Washington through eight innings and attempted to finish a complete game, but he gave up a single and a homer before getting pulled. It's was still a strong performance for Eflin in what will be his final start of the regular season, though he could still be used out of the bullpen this weekend, if necessary. He has a 4.15 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 70:14 K:BB through 56.1 innings.

Mike Clevinger RP | PIT
Padres' Mike Clevinger: Biceps issue resurfaces
Clevinger was removed after one inning Wednesday against the Angels due to biceps tightness, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
The 29-year-old had Saturday's start pushed back due to biceps tightness but appeared to be clear of the issue after throwing a bullpen session Monday. However, he told manager Jayce Tingler the issue resurfaced after his first inning Wednesday. Clevinger is undergoing an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, while his status for the playoffs is now in heavy doubt.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Leaves with ankle issue
Fried made a precautionary exit from Wednesday's start against the Marlins after tweaking his ankle, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.
The 26-year-old suffered the injury while fielding a bunt during the first inning, and he headed to the clubhouse after completing the frame. He also allowed a pair of solo homers. It's no surprise the Braves are exercising caution with the playoffs starting next week, but it's not ideal for Fried to be leaving his final start of the regular season with an injury, even if they are labeling the removal as precautionary.

Julio Urias SP | LAD
Dodgers' Julio Urias: Won't start Wednesday
Urias won't start Wednesday against the Athletics but will pitch in a bulk role as a reliever, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Joe Kelly will start in Urias' place Wednesday as manager Dave Roberts wants to try him out of the bullpen in preparation for the postseason, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. Urias' role for the postseason hasn't yet been defined, but Roberts' desire to test him as a reliever suggests that he could work as a reliever during the playoffs.

Mike Clevinger RP | PIT
Padres' Mike Clevinger: Exits after one inning
Clevinger was removed from Wednesday's start against the Angels after one inning for an undisclosed reason, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Clevinger retired the first three batters in order Wednesday, but he was replaced to begin the second inning. It's unclear why the right-hander was removed, but the early exit wasn't planned. Clevinger was scratched from his scheduled start for Saturday with biceps tightness, but he progressed well during the week. Wednesday's start was slated to be Clevinger's final start of the regular season, and it's unclear whether his apparent injury will limit his availability during the postseason.

Wade Miley SP | CIN
Reds' Wade Miley: Reinstated from injured list
Miley (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Miley spent nearly a month on the injured list with a left shoulder strain, but he'll be available out of the bullpen for the final few games of the regular season. The southpaw worked out of the rotation prior to the injury, posting a 6.57 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 12.1 innings across four starts this year.

Jose Urena SP | LAA
Marlins' Jose Urena: Remains winless
Urena (0-3) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over six innings of work Tuesday during the Marlins' 11-1 loss to the Braves. He struck out three.
Urena was plagued by home runs from Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies in the first two innings, but held a potent Braves offense mostly in check. The 29-year-old righty will carry a 6.00 ERA into his next start, which is scheduled for Miami's season finale versus the Yankees on Sunday.

Julio Urias SP | LAD
Dodgers' Julio Urias: Postseason role uncertain
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Tuesday that he is not sure of the role Urias will play in the postseason, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Urias has started in each of his 10 appearances this season, posting a 3.49 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB while winning three games. Those numbers are certainly respectable, but the emergence of rookies Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May along with the looming return of Walker Buehler (finger) may push Urias out of a postseason rotation spot. There is also concern about Urias' first-inning struggles this season; he has posted a 9.00 in the first frame through his 10 starts while registering a 1.85 ERA over his remaining 39 innings.

Seth Lugo SP | KC
Mets' Seth Lugo: Bounces back with quality start
Lugo evened his record at 3-3 during the Mets' 5-2 win Tuesday, limiting the Rays to two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in 6.1 innings.
After failing to escape the second inning while serving up four home runs in his last start Sept. 17 against the Phillies, Lugo bounced back in impressive fashion in his penultimate outing of 2020. Other than surrendering another long ball to Willy Adames in the second inning, Lugo was otherwise sharp with his command in the 95-pitch appearance. He's scheduled to make his final start in the Mets' season finale Sunday in Washington.

Ranger Suarez SP | BOS
Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Back at alternate site
The Phillies optioned Suarez to their alternate training site Wednesday.
Despite being designated as the 29th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Nationals, Suarez went unused in both contests. With no more twin bills on the Phillies' schedule the rest of the regular season, Suarez won't be eligible to rejoin the big club unless another player is placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.
