Gallen (elbow) is expected to throw off flat ground and throw a bullpen session in the coming week, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Throwing off a mound is a significant step for the right-hander, although he would require a few weeks to build up arm strength and endurance for a return to the rotation. Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen had previously said that Gallen would require more imaging after a period of not throwing; however, the GM was uncertain if that was still in the plans.

Kershaw (7-3) earned the win over Houston on Tuesday, pitching 7.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out six.

There was undoubtedly a revenge element to the contest, as Kershaw and the Dodgers returned to the stadium where he gave up six earned runs during Game 5 of the 2017 World Series under what now is known to be nefarious circumstances. The southpaw turned in a dominant effort Tuesday, allowing only one run and limiting Houston to four hits over 7.2 frames. In his 24th big-league season, Kershaw continues to rank among the elite starters in the game. He is tied for second in MLB with seven wins and has produced a 2.94 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 71:10 K:BB across 64.1 innings this season. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Sunday against San Francisco.

Alcantara (2-4) took the loss Tuesday versus the Marlins after allowing two runs on two hits with four strikeouts and one walk over eight innings.

The 25-year-old surrendered a two-run homer to Rhys Hoskins during the fourth-inning, which was enough to saddle him with the loss since Miami's offense failed to score any runs. Despite his unfavorable win-loss record, Alcantara has a 3.46 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 64:20 K:BB across 65 innings (11 starts) in 2021.

Velasquez (finger) (2-0) earned the win Tuesday at Miami after giving up three hits and three walks while recording five strikeouts over six scoreless innings.

The 28-year-old was scratched from Thursday's start against the Marlins due to numbness in his right index finger, but he was back on the mound Tuesday and delivered his best start of the season. Velasquez has a 2.95 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 45:22 K:BB over 36.2 innings this season.

Flaherty (8-1) allowed seven runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out three across 3.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the White Sox.

Flaherty escaped what could have been a horrendous line due to defensive lapses behind him. However, he did plenty to sink his own performance by allowing eight baserunners. Entering the contest, Flaherty had surrendered only six earned runs across his last five starts -- a span of 32 innings. Despite the poor outing, Flaherty has maintained a 2.84 ERA and 58:19 K:BB across 57 frames this season.

Gausman (5-0) earned the victory Tuesday against Arizona after pitching five shutout innings, allowing five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in an 8-0 win.

Gausman was customarily dominant despite failing to record a three-up, three-down inning. This was his second scoreless outing in a row, and he's now allowed only 11 runs in 64.2 innings, good for a 1.53 ERA that ranks in the league's top five.

Mahle (3-2) earned the win Tuesday against the Nationals after tossing 5.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk while fanning two.

Mahle was coming off a woeful outing the last time out, giving up seven runs across two innings, but he bounced back admirably here and ended just two outs away from delivering what would've been his second quality start of the month and third of the season. Mahle will take a 3.75 ERA into his next start, scheduled for Sunday at the Cubs.

Freeland did not factor into the decision during Tuesday's loss to the Mets after allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five through four innings.

Making his 2021 debut after getting sidelined by a left shoulder strain during spring training, Freeland turned in a solid outing. Although he was pitching against an injury-riddled Mets lineup, the left-hander coughed up just one run in the first frame, allowing a leadoff single and a walk that led to an RBI groundout by James McCann. Overall, he threw 74 pitches, including 38 strikes. The 28-year-old is projected to make his second start of the season Sunday at Pittsburgh.

DeGrom did not factor into the decision during Tuesday's win after holding the Rockies to one run on three hits and no walks while striking out nine across five innings.

After missing two starts due to tightness in his right side, deGrom made a solid return to the rotation. His only damage of the night came via a solo homer by Ryan McMahon in the second inning. Per usual, deGrom found a way to miss bats, throwing 44 of 63 pitches for strikes, including 12 swinging strikes. It's worth noting that he struck out eight of 10 batters during his rehab assignment Thursday and seems to be returning to usual form, with his pitch count expected to stretch out in his coming starts. Now sporting a sparkling 0.80 ERA and 0.60 WHIP across seven appearances this year, the 32-year-old is slated for a Sunday matchup at home against Atlanta.

Lauer will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville to start Wednesday against the Padres, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old was demoted May 15 but will rejoin the rotation and start Wednesday against his former ballclub. Lauer has pitched well for the Brewers in four appearances (two starts), posting a 2.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB over 16 innings.
