  • Ethan Small RP | SF

Brewers' Ethan Small: Promoted to Triple-A

Small was promoted to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

One of the organization's top prospects, Small has posted a 2.18 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 41.1 innings at Double-A this season, and he's now one step closer to the major-league club. The Brewers' rotation depth makes it unlikely that Small receives a call-up in 2021, but such a move is not out of the question, especially if his success translates to Triple-A.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Mets' Joey Lucchesi: Slated for Tommy John surgery

Lucchesi will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday after being diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Monday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

The southpaw received a second opinion Tuesday and it ultimately confirmed Monday's diagnosis. The club was holding out hope that Lucchesi would be able to be able to rehab through the tear without surgery, but as is usually the case, he'll require the procedure. After posting a 4.46 ERA across 38.1 innings this season, the left-hander will be out for the remainder of 2021 and likely the majority of 2022. He'll likely be moved to the 60-day IL in the coming days.

  • Kyle Wright SP | CHC

    Braves' Kyle Wright: Recalled Tuesday

Wright was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett prior to Tuesday's game against the Mets.

With Max Fried landing on the IL with a blister on his left index finger, Wright is back with the big club. The right-hander previously made a spot start April 16, allowing two runs on three hits across 4.1 innings against the Cubs before heading back to Gwinnett. He figures to have a strong chance to start in place of Fried on Wednesday, though Atlanta has not named him the starter at this point.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Forced to IL with blister

Fried was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday because of a blister on his left index finger. The move is retroactive to June 19.

If the left-hander was bothered by the blister in Friday's start against St. Louis, he didn't show it, tossing seven innings of one-run ball while picking up his fourth win. With the move retroactive to last Saturday, Fried will be eligible to be reinstated June 29 against the Mets, though it's not clear at this point whether he'll require additional time on the shelf. Kyle Wright was recalled from Triple-A and is a strong candidate to fill Fried's void in the starting rotation beginning Wednesday against the Mets.

  • Sixto Sanchez SP | MIA

Marlins' Sixto Sanchez: Throwing from 120 feet

Sanchez (shoulder) has extended his throwing distance to 120 feet, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.

Sanchez has been out all season due to shoulder issues. He was throwing from 120 feet in mid-May before his rehab was paused due to a setback. He's been throwing again for two weeks now and is gradually increasing his throwing distance, but Sanchez is still nowhere close to being ready to return to the active roster.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Rehab start confirmed for Thursday

Gray (groin) is scheduled to make a rehab start Thursday at Triple-A Louisville, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Shortly after Gray took part in fielding drills Tuesday, the Reds gave him the green light to head out on a rehab assignment later this week while he looks to prove he's fully recovered from a right groin strain. The Reds are planning to have him make just one three-inning rehab start at Louisville, and if all goes well, he would tentatively line up to return from the 10-day injured list to start June 29 against the Padres. Tony Santillan has been filling in for Gray in the Cincinnati rotation and is scheduled to make what could be his final start with the big club Thursday versus Atlanta.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Rehab coming soon

Gray (groin) went through fielding drills Tuesday and is expected to embark on a rehab assignment later this week, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Gray has missed two weeks due to a right groin strain. He's expected to make just a single, three-inning rehab appearance for Triple-A Louisville, putting him on track to return sometime next week. He may be on a pitch count for his first start back given that the Reds don't appear to want to build him all the way back up before he returns.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Mets' Jerad Eickhoff: Solid in no-decision

Eickhoff gave up three hits and three walks over four scoreless innings during the second game of Monday's doubleheader. He struck out three and didn't factor into the decision.

Making his first appearance in the majors since 2019, the 31-year-old tossed 47 of 77 pitches for strikes and kept the Mets in the game as long as he could, but as soon as Eickhoff departed, Ronald Acuna promptly led off the fifth inning with a solo shot. This effort was likely enough to keep him in the rotation for now, but Eickhoff hasn't posted useful fantasy numbers since 2016.

  • Ian Anderson RP | ATL

Braves' Ian Anderson: Blanks Mets in nightcap Monday

Anderson (5-3) picked up the win in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Mets, allowing three hits and a walk over 5.1 scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory. He struck out five.

Ronald Acuna's fifth-inning homer proved to be the only run of the game, but Anderson and the Atlanta bullpen made it hold up. The right-hander fell two outs short of his seventh quality start of the year, and he'll take a 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 79:28 K:BB through 75.2 innings into his next outing.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Eight whiffs in no-decision

Mahle didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 7-5 extra-innings loss to the Twins after giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out eight.

The right-hander tossed an inefficient 93 pitches (56 strikes) before getting the hook, which came back to bite the Reds when the game went to 12 innings. Mahle still struck out at least six batters for the fifth straight outing, and he'll carry a 3.56 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 98:26 K:BB through 78.1 innings into his next start.
