  • Ranger Suarez SP | BOS

Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Moved to 15-day IL

Suarez (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.

Suarez fell behind the other Phillies starters when he came down with forearm tightness in early March. Imaging tests have ruled out any structural damage and the hope is that he can hop into the rotation for the reigning NL champs sometime before the end of April. He threw a bullpen session Wednesday without issue.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Placed on 15-day IL

Wainwright (groin) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.

Wainwright is projected to miss the first month of the 2023 regular season because of a groin strain that he suffered during a workout with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Miles Mikolas is taking the ball for the Cardinals on Opening Day.

  • Jared Shuster RP | STL

Braves' Jared Shuster: Added to big-league roster

Shuster had his contract selected by Atlanta on Thursday.

The 24-year-old lefty earned a spot in Atlanta's season-opening rotation and is penciled in to start Sunday in Washington, and he's now officially been added to the MLB roster. Shuster had a 3.29 ERA and 145:38 K:BB across 139.1 innings between the Double-A and Triple-A levels last season, but he earned the rotation spot largely on a dominant spring training during which held opponents to a .115 average with a 1.45 ERA in 18.2 frames.

  • Justin Dunn RP | CHW

Reds' Justin Dunn: Moved to 60-day IL

The Reds placed Dunn (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Dunn continues to battle serious shoulder problems and might be in for another lost season. He was recently diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Back on 60-day IL

Ynoa (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.

Ynoa finished last season on the 60-day IL after he underwent Tommy John surgery in September, so his move back there to open 2023 was inevitable. The 24-year-old is expected to miss the entire season but could be ready for spring training in 2024.

  • Kolby Allard RP | CLE

Braves' Kolby Allard: Lands on 60-day IL

Allard (oblique) was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.

Allard suffered a Grade 2 right oblique strain in early March, and his move to the 60-day IL guarantees he'll be out for at least the first two months of the campaign. The 25-year-old was acquired from the Rangers in November and will likely head to Triple-A Gwinnett once healthy.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Shifts to injured list

Hendricks (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.

The veteran right-hander spent spring training going through his rehab program for the right shoulder capsular tear he suffered in August, so his move to the injured list to begin the season isn't a surprise. Hendricks is close to facing live batters and could begin a rehab assignment within the next few weeks.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Placed on 60-day IL

The Nationals placed Strasburg (ribs/shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Thursday while he continues to experience symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome.

Strasburg's status for 2023 is up in the air after he had a nerve-related setback over the offseason. He can't be activated until late May at the soonest, and unless he's able to resume throwing within the next few weeks, his return will be much further off than that.

  • Cade Cavalli SP | WAS

Nationals' Cade Cavalli: Lands on 60-day IL

The Nationals placed Cavalli (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster. Cavalli will likely be out until around midseason next year following Tommy John surgery.

  • Pirates' JT Brubaker: Might need season-ending surgery

Brubaker's right elbow injury is "not minor" and could require season-ending surgery, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The Pirates have simply referred to Brubaker's elbow injury as inflammation to this point, but it sounds like he has some structural damage. Mackey does add that the team is "holding out a sliver of hope" Brubaker can avoid season-ending surgery "through various treatments." Even if the right-hander is able to dodge surgery for now, it appears his rest and rehab will result in a significant absence. Johan Oviedo has entered the Pirates' rotation in Brubaker's place.
