Rogers (biceps) will begin a throwing program Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Rogers will play catch before progressing to long toss, bullpen sessions, live batting practice and eventually a rehab assignment. The left-hander has been on the shelf since late April with a strained left biceps and is likely several weeks away from a return.

Atlanta optioned Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

Dodd pitched well in a spot start Thursday against the Marlins, yielding three runs over six innings, but he'll head back to the minors for the time being. Whether he'll be needed again by the big club soon could depend on how much time Kyle Wright (shoulder) misses.

Miley didn't factor in the decision against Colorado on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over six innings.

Miley made it through six scoreless frames before allowing three straight batters to reach to open the seventh. All three came around to score, putting a sour ending on what began as another impressive outing by the southpaw. Coming into Thursday, Miley had given up just three total earned runs over his previous three starts covering 18 innings. He still managed to pick up his fourth quality start of the campaign in Colorado, and his 2.31 season ERA ranks 12th among qualified starters.

Seabold allowed three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out one batter over five innings against Milwaukee on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision.

Seabold made his first start of the campaign Thursday after serving in middle relief during the early part of the season. The right-hander served up three long balls, but each was of the solo variety, allowing him to escape with just three runs charged to his ledger. Seabold was far from impressive in the outing, striking out just one batter and notching a modest seven whiffs. He'll likely remain in the rotation with Noah Davis (elbow) and German Marquez (elbow) on the injured list, but Seabold's body of major-league work to his point doesn't portend future success.

Luzardo (2-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings, taking the loss versus Atlanta on Thursday.

Luzardo turned in another decent effort, though the five strikeouts matched his season low. The southpaw threw 106 pitches (68 strikes), but Atlanta's offense proved to be a bit too much. His 3.66 ERA is fine, but a 1.40 WHIP and 43:14 K:BB through 39.1 innings doesn't suggest significant room for improvement unless he can start limiting baserunners better. Luzardo projects for a road start in Arizona next week.

Musgrove is having his next start pushed back from Friday to Sunday after he developed a blister on his foot, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Musgrove struggled in his previous outing and lasted only 3.1 innings, though it's unclear if that was caused by the injury. The positive news is that the issue doesn't seem likely to force him to the injured list or to miss a full turn through the rotation. Yu Darvish will now start Friday, followed by Blake Snell on Saturday.

Verlander (0-1) took the loss Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over five innings against Detroit. He struck out five.

Verlander made his first start of 2023 after being held out for the first five weeks of action with a strained right shoulder. The 40-year-old struggled to get through the first inning, giving up back-to-back solo home runs to Riley Greene and Javier Baez. Outside of the two long balls, Verlander exited Thursday's outing relatively unscathed, giving up just three other hits and no additional runs. Though he managed to make it through five innings, Verlander was yanked at just 79 pitches. He'll likely continue to face some workload limitations for his next couple starts as he builds up.

Dodd (2-1) allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out one over six innings, earning the win over Miami on Thursday.

Jorge Soler accounted for the damage on Dodd's line, tagging him for a two-run home run in the first inning and an RBI double in the fifth. It was a solid outing for Dodd, who replaced Kyle Wright (shoulder) in Atlanta's rotation for this game. He owns a 6.46 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB over 15.1 innings across three starts this season, but it was confirmed that he was only used for a spot start Thursday, per Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dodd will likely be a candidate to pitch May 16 against the Rangers, the next time Atlanta will need a fifth starter.

Teheran signed a minor-league contract Thursday with the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Teheran opted out of a previous minor-league agreement with the Padres on Tuesday, but he's back with the organization 48 hours later and could stay right on his normal rotation turn at Triple-A El Paso. The 32-year-old has struggled to a 6.84 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through 25 innings (five starts) this season in the Pacific Coast League.

Velasquez said he's optimistic about the right elbow discomfort that led to his early exit Thursday against the Rays, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Velasquez called it "just a little freak accident" and "nothing too severe," though Pirates manager Derek Shelton noted that further testing is scheduled for Friday. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 19-inning scoreless streak in the works before he gave up a solo home run to Taylor Walls in the bottom of the second inning Thursday afternoon at Tropicana Field. It was the only run he allowed before his departure prior to the bottom of the fourth.
