Nelson (7-8) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings as the Diamondbacks were downed 7-4 by the Mets. He struck out three.

Four of the seven hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including Ronny Mauricio's first career home run and Pete Alonso's 44th blast of the season. Nelson has been tagged for six runs in three of his four big-league starts since the beginning of August, staggering to a 10.69 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB through 16 innings over that stretch, and with Arizona fighting to hang onto a wild-card spot, manager Torey Lovullo may have to consider other options for the fifth spot in his rotation.

Adon (2-2) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and six walks over four-plus innings against the Pirates. He struck out four.

Adon dealt with multiple baserunners in each of his four-plus innings Tuesday, issuing a career-high six free passes. In seven outings since his Aug. 5. return to the big-league squad, the 25-year-old righty has a 6.00 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 3.8 BB/9 across 33 innings. Adon will carry a 5.92 season-long ERA into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for early next week versus the White Sox.

Wainwright (4-11) earned the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings against Baltimore. He struck out three.

Wainwright held the first-place Orioles scoreless until the fifth inning, when the first three batters reached and two runs came around to score in the frame. The 42-year-old veteran left with a lead that would not be relinquished, earning his 199th career win and his first win since June 17. In the 11 outings between wins, Wainwright went 0-10 with a 10.72 ERA, 2.27 WHIP and 25:23 K:BB across 45.1 innings. He currently lines up for a home matchup with the Brewers in his next outing.

Abbott's next start will come during the series against the Mets that opens Friday in New York, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Reds manager David Bell said that Abbott will start Friday or Saturday.

Bell is trying to manage Abbott's workload. The rookie left-hander blew past his previous career high in innings (118.0) in early August and is up to 153 in 2023. The workload appears to be affecting Abbott's performance, as the 24-year-old has a 6.51 ERA with 42 hits and 20 walks allowed over his last 37.1 innings.

Wacha (11-4) allowed seven runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers.

Wacha matched his season low in innings while also equaling his season high in runs allowed. He also gave up multiple home runs for just the third time in 21 starts. The poor outing accounted for his second loss in a row, and he's allowed 10 runs over eight innings in that shaky span. For the year, he's at a 3.43 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 105:41 K:BB over 115.1 innings. Considering he's gone five years without tossing more than 130 innings, he may be wearing down as the campaign winds to a close. Wacha is projected for a home start versus the Rockies next week.

Flexen did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against the Cubs. He struck out five.

Though he pitched to plenty of contact, Flexen managed to limit the damage while recording his third start of the season without a home run allowed. Since joining Colorado (44 innings), Flexen owns an unsightly 6.76 ERA alongside a 36:15 K:BB. He'll close out his two-start week Sunday at home against the Giants.

Lynn (11-11) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Padres.

Lynn threw 111 pitches (64 strikes) in a strong start, bouncing back from allowing 15 runs over nine innings across his previous two outings. He still gave up one home run, a solo shot to Fernando Tatis in the fifth inning, but the Dodgers were already firmly in control of the game. Lynn's allowed 41 homers this season, the most in the majors. He's at a 5.94 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 175:58 K:BB through 166.2 innings over 29 starts, though he's been marginally better with a 4.60 ERA over eight outings with the Dodgers. The veteran is projected for a favorable home start versus the Tigers early next week.

Peralta (12-8) earned the win Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits over 6.1 innings against the Marlins. He struck out nine.

For the fourth time in his last five starts, Peralta fanned at least nine batters, allowing him to hit the 200-strikeout mark, currently the sixth-highest figure in MLB. He's been especially dominant across his last nine starts (53.2 innings), boasting a 6-0 record to go along with a 2.01 ERA and an 82:11 K:BB. The 27-year-old is tentatively scheduled to make his next start in St. Louis against the Cardinals early next week.

Cabrera (6-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers. He allowed two runs on one hit and six walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings.

Cabrera followed up JT Chargois -- who tossed one scoreless frame as an opener -- and dished out six walks for the second time in his last three appearances. Despite his lack of control, Cabrera held the Brewers to just two runs on one hit. Since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 6, Cabrera has worked exclusively as a bulk reliever, posting a 2.08 ERA and a 13:8 K:BB through 8.2 frames.

Wheeler did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in a 7-6 loss to Atlanta. He struck out four.

Even the 33-year-old ace wasn't impervious to Atlanta's vaunted offense, yielding home runs of the solo, two-run and three-run varieties. It was the first time this season that Wheeler has allowed more than two homers in a start. He had been on a roll in his previous three starts, giving up just four earned runs across 19 innings with an awe-inspiring 27:2 K:BB during that stretch. However, Tuesday's poor performance inflated the righty's season-long ERA to 3.70, the highest in his four years in Philadelphia. Wheeler currently lines up for a road rematch with Atlanta early next week.
