Ortiz will start Saturday's game against the Yankees, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Ortiz is set to take his third turn through the Pittsburgh rotation, and he's allowed three earned runs across 11.1 innings in his last two starts. He's only posted a 4:5 K:BB in that same span, a far less impressive mark. More positively, Ortiz should be able to handle a typical starter's workload.

Shuster will start Saturday's game against the Marlins, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Shuster was recalled to the majors Wednesday but has not yet pitched. His last outing came Sept. 8 with Triple-A Gwinnett, when he worked six innings. Assuming he's effective, Shuster should be able to work deep enough into the game to qualify for a win.

Musgrove (shoulder) will not pitch again in 2023, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Musgrove had his throwing program slowed, meaning he won't be able to return again this season. He reportedly hasn't suffered a setback, but the Padres instead have opted to take a conservative approach given that they've fallen out of playoff contention. Musgrove will end the campaign with a 3.05 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 97:21 K:BB across 97.1 frames.

Stone will pitch Sunday against the Mariners as either a traditional starter or bulk reliever, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Stone pitched as a traditional starter Monday and struggled across 5.1 innings against San Diego. Manager Dave Roberts' wording Friday, when he indicated that Stone would work "the bulk innings", suggests that the right-hander will follow an opener this time around, though it's unclear who will fill that role. Emmet Sheehan was originally projected to start Sunday but could throw a shorter outing instead with the Dodgers likely monitoring his innings carefully.

Cobb had his next start pushed back to Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Cobb was originally slated to start during a doubleheader Saturday against the Rockies, but the team has opted to give him extra rest, as he's been managing a hip issue of late. The team has yet to officially announce a starter to replace Cobb, but Ross Stripling (back) was activated from the injured list Friday and appears to be a logical candidate to take the mound.

Harrison was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Harrison has struggled over his last three starts, surrendering 12 earned runs across 14.2 frames. Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco also reports that Harrison had lost velocity in his last outing, a factor that may have played a part in the team's decision to take him out of the big-league rotation. Barring an injury to a pitcher, Harrison will have to spend at least 15 days in the minors. Ross Stripling (back) was activated in the corresponding move.

Stripling (back) was reinstated from the injured list Friday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Stripling has been sidelined since Aug. 19 with a mid-back strain but threw 50 pitches in a live batting practice session Monday. His exact role hasn't been confirmed, but Alex Wood had his start pushed to Tuesday, while Kyle Harrison was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. That combination suggests Stripling could be in line to start Saturday during a doubleheader against the Rockies.

The Cubs reinstated Stroman (ribs) from the 15-day injured list Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Stroman initially landed on the injured list Aug. 2 due to right hip inflammation, but his stay on the IL was extended after he suffered a right rib cage cartilage fracture in mid-August. Stroman resumed throwing Aug. 29 and will now return to the Cubs' rotation without embarking on a rehab assignment, though there's no word yet on when his next start might come. The 32-year-old righty started the year strong, but Stroman allowed 17 runs in 10 innings across his last three starts prior to getting injured, and he will likely have some rust to knock off after being out for over a month. Daniel Palencia was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move.

Perez (5-5) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits over 4.2 innings against the Brewers while striking out seven and not issuing any walks.

Perez got off to a solid start, striking out five of the first nine batters he faced before surrendering a leadoff double to William Contreras in the fourth, which would lead to one run coming home for Miami in the frame. The young right-hander would then go on to allow another two runs in the fifth before being relieved by George Soriano, marking the fourth time in his last seven starts that he's failed to make it through five innings. Perez has not won a start since June 25 and currently holds a 5.02 ERA in September to go along with a 16:6 K:BB.

Houser (6-4) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings against Miami while striking out five. He did not issue any walks.

Houser allowed a leadoff double to Luis Arraez to open the game, eventually leading to one run coming across for Miami in the first. The right-hander then retired nine of the next 10 batters he faced before surrendering a second run in the fifth. It was a solid outing for Houser in his return from the 15-day injured list (elbow), and he's now allowed three or fewer runs in three of his last four starts. He's also won three of his last four decisions (spanning six starts).
