  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Dominates in final spring start

Glasnow tossed 5.1 scoreless and hitless innings in a Cactus League contest against San Francisco on Tuesday. He struck out eight batters and allowed one walk.

A day after being named the Dodgers' Opening Day starter for their March 20 matchup with the Padres in South Korea, Glasnow finished his spring slate in dominant fashion, retiring 16 of the 17 batters he faced and tossing 70 pitches while holding the Giants without a hit. The right-hander looked every bit like an ace this spring, allowing just one run on four hits while posting a 14:3 K:BB over 10 frames. Glasnow may not be quite ready for a full workload in the regular-season opener given that the Seoul Series is taking place over a week earlier than Opening Day for teams besides the Dodgers and Padres, but he otherwise appears to be in fine form as he embarks upon his first campaign with Los Angeles.

  • Quinn Priester SP | MIL

Pirates' Quinn Priester: Has best spring outing

Priester allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out five across 4.2 innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees.

Priester is vying for the final rotation spot in Pittsburgh but has struggled to get outs the second time through the order throughout spring. That changed Friday, as he served up a solo home run in the fourth frame but was otherwise successful pitching deeper into the game. Priester also threw his slider 40 percent of the time and maintained increased velocity relative to the 2023 season. The Pirates have added Domingo German and Eric Lauer in recent days to muddy Priester's path to the rotation on Opening Day, but he'll almost certainly contribute at some point during the campaign.

  • Rhett Lowder SP | CIN

Reds' Rhett Lowder: Impresses in breakout game

Lowder struck out two over two scoreless innings in Thursday's Spring Breakout game against Texas.

Lowder was the star of the day, according to Keith Law of The Athletic, who remarked how efficient the right-hander was. The Reds' 2023 first-round pick showcased his fastball (94-95 mph), a plus changeup (86-89) and a plus slider that Law said had more bite that it did last spring at Wake Forest. The only batter that reached base did so on an error. Outside of the breakout game, Lowder has made two other spring appearances, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Seeing hitters Sunday

Gray (hamstring) will face hitters in a simulated session Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Gray will pitch to hitters before Sunday's Grapefruit League game as the next step in his rehab process, but the hitters will not be permitted to swing. If all goes well, the right-hander may move on to throwing batting practice or a full simulated game. Gray's status for Opening Day remains uncertain, though the Cardinals are optimistic the 34-year-old will be able to pitch in St. Louis' opening series against the Dodgers.

  • Domingo German SP | PIT

Pirates' Domingo German: Brought into Pirates' camp

German signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Friday and was invited to major-league spring training, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Despite throwing the 24th perfect game in MLB history last season, German turned in only a 4.56 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 108.2 innings for the Yankees. The right-hander will be given a chance to prove himself during the final weeks of spring training, and he will make $1.25 million this season if he makes the MLB roster. His new deal also includes a $2.25 million club option for 2025.

  • Joe Ross RP | TEX

Brewers' Joe Ross: Viewed as starter

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Friday that he views Ross primarily as a starting pitcher, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

He didn't confirm Ross would be in the Brewers' starting rotation for Opening Day, but Murphy's statement does suggest that Ross will be sent to Triple-A Nashville and stay stretched out rather than begin the year in Milwaukee's bullpen should the 30-year-old righty lose out on a big-league rotation job. Ross hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021 and has surrendered five runs across seven innings so far this spring with a 9:6 K:BB.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Mets' Joey Lucchesi: Sent to Triple-A

Lucchesi was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The 30-year-old appeared to have a decent chance of making the Mets' Opening Day rotation after Kodai Senga (shoulder) was shut down, but Lucchesi came into camp behind most of the organization's pitchers and sat below 90 mph with his fastball during his lone game appearance of spring training. The left-hander pitched to a 2.89 ERA in nine starts for the Mets last season but is poised to open 2024 at Triple-A.

  • Edward Cabrera SP | CHC

    Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Resumes throwing

Cabrera (shoulder) is playing catch Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement earlier this week but was able to get back to throwing within a few days. Cabrera is likely to miss Opening Day as he ramps his throwing program back up, but he could make an early-season return if he's able to avoid any further issues.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Live BP on tap

Garrett (shoulder) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander is poised to begin the season on the injured list due to left shoulder soreness, but he's ramping up his throwing program and will progress to facing live batters this weekend. It's possible Garrett will be ready to join the Marlins sometime in mid-April.

  • Eury Perez SP | MIA

Marlins' Eury Perez: Won't throw until next week

Perez (finger) will be shut down from throwing for 3-to-4 days, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Perez had to be removed from his last Grapefruit League outing after just 14 pitches due to complications with a fingernail issue on his right middle finger. The right-hander had previously expressed optimism that he could still ramp back up in time for Opening Day, but this shutdown period, while relatively brief, makes a start during the opening weekend of the season unlikely. Perez was already in line to have his workload monitored this season, so it might make sense for the Marlins to push back his debut until at least the second turn through the rotation. The Marlins are already juggling injuries to other starters like Braxton Garrett (shoulder) and Edward Cabrera (shoulder), however, and the fact that Miami plays eight straight games to begin the campaign before its first off day could also push the team to try and get Perez ready to go as soon as possible.
