  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Brewers-Reds postponed Thursday

Peralta and the Brewers won't face the Reds on Thursday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in CIncinnati.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 30. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the Brewers will push each of their starting pitchers back one day in the pitching schedule as a result of the postponement, so Peralta will take the hill for Friday's series opener in Baltimore.

  • Reds' Nick Martinez: Brewers-Reds postponed Thursday

Martinez and the Reds won't face the Brewers on Thursday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in CIncinnati.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 30. Martinez had been slated to start Thursday's series finale, but it's unclear if he'll get pushed back one day in the schedule to start Friday's series opener in Chicago versus the White Sox. The Reds are set to get Nick Lodolo (calf) back from the 15-day injured list this weekend, and manager David Bell has yet to confirm whether Cincinnati will expand the rotation to six men to accommodate the left-hander or if the team will stay with a five-man starting staff and move another pitcher to the bullpen or Triple-A Louisville. Martinez, Andrew Abbott or Graham Ashcraft would be the pitchers most likely to lose out on a starting role if Bell elects to keep a five-man rotation intact once Lodolo returns.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | CHW

Giants' Jordan Hicks: Stifles Nats for second win

Hicks (2-0) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings in a 7-1 victory over the Nationals. He struck out two.

The right-hander wasn't dominant, managing only seven swinging strikes among his 79 pitches, but Hicks didn't give up much hard contact aside from a Joey Gallo solo shot in the second inning. Hicks has produced two straight quality starts, and through three outings and 18 innings to begin the season he's delivered a sparkling 1.00 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up for a road tilt in Miami early next week.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Hit hard in Wednesday's loss

Corbin (0-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Nationals were downed 7-1 by the Giants, surrendering seven runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out two without walking a batter.

The veteran lefty was able to keep the ball in the park, but San Francisco was able to string together multiple hits and score multiple runs in three separate innings against Corbin, chasing him from the game after 85 pitches (58 strikes). After posting an ERA above 5.00 in each of the last three seasons, Corbin seems headed for another awful campaign, stumbling to an 8.44 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB through three starts and 16 innings. There's little reason for optimism that he'll turn things around in his next start, likely to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.

  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Quality start against Snakes

Gomber came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.

The 30-year-old lefty produced his first quality start of the season, no mean feat at Coors Field, and exited the game after 98 pitches (61 strikes) in line for his first win of the season. The Rockies' bullpen couldn't seal the deal, however. Gomber will carry a 4.91 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB through 14.2 innings into his next start, which lines up for a road tilt early next week in Philadelphia.

  • Tommy Henry SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Fans six at Coors Field

Henry came away with an no-decision in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Rockies, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six.

A two-run homer by Michael Toglia in the fourth inning accounted for most of the damage off Henry, who exited the game after 95 pitches (62 strikes). The results could have been far worse at Coors Field, but the southpaw has still been taken deep in all three of his starts to begin the season and has a 5.79 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB through 14 innings. He'll look for his first win of 2024 in his next outing, likely to come early next week at home against the Cubs.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Brewers' Wade Miley: Solid over four frames

MIley did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's win over the Reds, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over four innings.

Miley was solid in his return from the 15-day-injured list (shoulder), allowing just one hit over his four innings of work while going 1-2-3 through Cincinnati's lineup in two of those frames. On the downside, the veteran lefty did issue two walks over that stretch while also hitting Jeimer Candelario with a pitch with two outs in the fourth. Miley will look to put together a cleaner outing next week when the Brewers host the Padres in Milwaukee.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Allows six runs in loss

Greene (0-1) took the loss against the Brewers on Wednesday, allowing six runs on six hits and one walk over six innings while striking out nine.

Greene had command issues from the jump, walking Jackson Chourio in the opening at-bat before surrendering a two-run shot to Christian Yelich on a hanging slider just two batters later. The right-hander then hit Jake Bauers with a pitch to open the second, which would eventually lead to three more runs coming home for Milwaukee in the frame. Greene had not allowed more than two runs in either of his first two starts and was also yet to surrender a home run prior to Wednesday's matchup, but saw his ERA climb to 4.86 with the dreadful outing. On a positive note, he did still manage to go six innings for the second straight start and retire eight of the final nine batters while also recording a season-high nine strikeouts in the contest.

  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

Padres' Dylan Cease: Another strong outing

Cease (1-1) pitched six innings in a win over the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Cease was in control from the start Wednesday, striking out the first two batters he faced and allowing just two hits and a walk over the first four innings. Unfortunately, one of those hits went for a home run to score two runs for Chicago following a previous fielding error from Ha-Seong Kim, though those would be the only runs to come across for the Cubs in the contest. The right-hander allowed only two hits on the day and has now registered a 14:4 K:BB through two starts this month, going six innings in each of those outings. The home run in Wednesday's game was also the first he's allowed in three starts to open the campaign.

  • Ryan Weathers SP | NYY

Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Twirls five scoreless frames

Weathers (1-1) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing three hits and three walks with one strikeout over five scoreless innings against the Yankees.

Weathers turned in his best start of 2024, holding the Yankees without an extra-base hit and not allowing a single baserunner past second base. While the 24-year-old lefty hasn't gone deeper than five frames this season, he's been a surprising source of stability on the Marlins' pitching staff, posting a 2.57 ERA with one home run allowed over 14 innings. However, with Braxton Garrett (shoulder) and Edward Cabrera (shoulder) nearing their returns, it's unclear if Weathers will take another turn in the Marlins' rotation in the immediate future.
