  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Hit hard Wednesday

Hendricks (0-2) allowed seven runs on nine hits over five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Padres. He had no walks and struck out two.

Hendricks has now allowed at least five earned runs in all three of his starts, leaving him with an unsightly 12.08 ERA. Home runs have been a problem, as he's allowed five of them so far. The veteran has also never been known for missing a ton of bats, and he has just eight strikeouts across 12.2 innings so far this year. Hendricks made that approach work in the past, but at this point in his career, it's fair to wonder whether he's slipped from a skills standpoint. The righty will be a risky fantasy play in his next scheduled start, which is penciled in for Tuesday on the road against the Diamondbacks.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Cardinals' Lance Lynn: Sharp vs. Phillies

Lynn didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and four walks over five innings. He struck out six.

After allowing a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, Lynn held the Phillies without a hit over his final four frames, though the Cardinals ultimately couldn't provide enough run support against Aaron Nola to get Lynn a victory. The veteran right-hander has yet to pitch into the sixth inning through three starts this season, though he's held opponents to four earned runs in his first 13.2 innings while striking out 18. Lynn's currently in line to face the A's on the road in his next outing.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Goes six innings in second win

Nola (2-1) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.

The only damage against Nola came via a pair of solo home runs in the second and third innings, as the right-hander picked up his second win and first quality start on the young season. After he was tagged for six earned runs in an Opening-Day loss, Nola's held opponents to just two runs on five hits over 11.2 innings in his subsequent two outings. He'll look for a third straight win in his next start, currently slated as a home matchup with the Rockies early next week.

  • Bobby Miller SP | LAD

Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Goes four innings vs. Twins

Miller didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Twins, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out four.

After a stellar season debut, Miller's now allowed seven runs over 5.2 innings while striking out seven in his subsequent two starts. The 25-year-old right-hander now sports a 5.40 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB through his first 11.2 innings this year. Miller's next outing is currently lined up for early next week against the Nationals.

  • Reds' Brandon Williamson: Out until late May

Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Williamson (shoulder) will likely be sidelined until late May, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Williamson has been on the shelf since mid-March with a left shoulder strain and it's unclear whether he has begun a throwing program. The southpaw had been in contention for a spot in the Reds' rotation before the injury and could be under consideration again, but he'll need to get healthy first.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Mets' Jose Quintana: New York-Atlanta postponed Wednesday

Quintana and the Mets won't play Atlanta on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather in the Atlanta area.

The two teams will make up the postponed game Sept. 26. As a result of the postponement, the Mets are likely to push each member of their five-man rotation back a day in the pitching schedule, so Quintana will presumably be in line to take the hill in Thursday's series finale.

  • Allan Winans SP | NYY

Braves' Allan Winans: New York-Atlanta postponed Wednesday

Winans and Atlanta won't play the Mets on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather in the Atlanta area.

The two teams will make up the postponed game Sept. 26. Winans had been scheduled to start Wednesday in the rotation spot that previously belonged to Spencer Strider (elbow), who was placed on the 15-day injured list over the weekend. Winans' start will be moved to Thursday's series finale, pushing each of the team's other four starters back a day.

  • Robert Gasser SP | MIL

Brewers' Robert Gasser: To pitch in extended spring game

Gasser (elbow) will throw two innings in an extended spring training game Saturday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Gasser was diagnosed with a bone spur in his left elbow in late March but is ready to test things out in game action. The left-hander was going to begin the season at Triple-A Nashville, though he had arguably been the top candidate to receive a promotion when the Brewers needed a starter. He could work his way back into being under consideration for the big club once he proves his health.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Brewers' Wade Miley: Activated for Wednesday's start

The Brewers reinstated Miley (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Reliever Kevin Herget was optioned to Triple-A Nashville to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Miley, who is slated to make his season debut Wednesday. While he was on the mend from a left shoulder impingement, Miley made just one rehab start with Nashville, covering three innings and tossing 55 pitches last Friday. With that in mind, he likely won't be fully stretched out for a traditional starting role Wednesday, and that reality plus the matchup with the Reds at a hitter-friendly ballpark makes Miley tough to trust as a streaming option in his 2024 debut.

  • Kodai Senga RP | NYM

Mets' Kodai Senga: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Mets transferred Senga (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Senga's move to the 60-day IL doesn't necessarily indicate that he's hit a setback in his recovery from a right posterior shoulder capsule strain since he resumed throwing during the final week of March, though manager Carlos Mendoza noted Tuesday that the right-hander has yet to advance to mound work. Instead, Senga is essentially having to go through his own version of spring training all over again, so he'll be in store for an extensive ramp-up period that will now last until at least late May as a result of him being transferred to the 60-day IL. The transaction enabled the Mets to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for lefty reliever Tyler Jay, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Wednesday's game in Atlanta.
