Montas gave up three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one over five innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.

Montas gave up a leadoff blast to Mookie Betts in the first inning and a two-run home run to Shohei Ohtani in the third. The Reds were able to erase that damage after Montas exited, but the Dodgers rallied in the late innings. Given the opponent, this was an acceptable start from the right-hander. He's still at a pedestrian 4.37 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 25:15 K:BB through 35 innings over eight starts this season. Montas' next start is projected to come at home versus the Padres, when he'll look for his first win since April 3.

Paxton allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out two without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Friday.

Paxton did fine, though he gave up solo home runs to Stuart Fairchild and Tyler Stephenson to account for two of the three runs on his line. After posting just one quality start over five outings in April, Paxton has settled in with three in a row to begin May. The southpaw has done well at run prevention this year with a 2.84 ERA despite a 1.38 WHIP and 24:24 K:BB through 44.1 innings over eight starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.

Nelson (2-3) allowed eight runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out four over four-plus innings to take the loss versus the Tigers on Friday.

Nelson avoided giving up a home run for the first time in three outings since he returned from an elbow injury, but that was the only silver lining on a dark cloud in this start. He allowed five runs over the first four innings and then failed to get an out in the fifth as the Tigers piled on the offense. This was Nelson's worst start of the season, but he's generally struggled with a 7.06 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB over 29.1 innings through seven appearances. He's tentatively projected for a difficult road start versus the Dodgers in his next outing.

Gibson (3-2) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks over six-plus innings Friday, striking out three and earning a win over the Red Sox.

Gibson was in line for a quality start after giving up three runs through six frames. He put two runners on base to begin the seventh inning and was eventually charged with both. He'd gone five straight starts with two or fewer earned runs allowed before Friday's hiccup. Gibson's season ERA climbed back to 4.09 with a 43:23 K:BB through 55 frames. He's in line to face the Orioles at home next week.

Waldron (2-5) earned the win Friday against Atlanta, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out 10.

Waldron made the Atlanta lineup look uncomfortable in the batter's box all night with his knuckleball. The San Diego right-hander used 98 pitches to reach double-digit strikeouts in a start for the first time in his career. Waldron sports a 5.00 ERA in 45 innings this season but has been slightly unlucky, as evidenced by his 3.98 FIP. He lines up to face the Reds on the road for his next outing.

Fried (3-2) took the loss Friday against the Padres, yielding three runs on nine hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.

Fried turned in his worst outing since allowing seven runs on 10 hits against Arizona on April 6. The Atlanta lefty generated a measly four whiffs over his 88 pitches as the Padres lineup had his number all night. Fried will look to bounce back in his next start, slated to come against the Cubs in Chicago.

Irvin (2-4) took the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out two.

Irvin got off to a shaky start, allowing all four of his runs over the first three innings. The 27-year-old right-hander had allowed just four earned runs over his previous three starts (18 innings), striking out 13 while issuing just one walk in that span. Overall, Irvin has a solid 3.91 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB over nine starts (50.2 innings) this season. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Twins in his next outing.

Wheeler (5-3) earned the win Friday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over 7.1 innings. He struck out six.

It was an encouraging return to form for Wheeler after he was tagged for six runs over four innings by Miami in his last start. Before that outing, Wheeler had allowed just one earned run over four starts (25.1 innings). He's won five of his last six starts while lowering his ERA to 2.52 with a 0.97 WHIP and 71:19 K:BB over 60.2 innings this season. Wheeler is currently in line for a home matchup with the Rangers in his next outing.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Rodriguez (shoulder) has extended his throwing program out to 60 feet, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Rodriguez resumed his program last week after being shut down in early April due to discomfort in a bullpen session. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 17, which makes the left-hander eligible to return in mid-June.

The Giants placed Winn on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right forearm strain, retroactive to Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Although manager Bob Melvin described Winn's injury as mild, the 26-year-old's MRI results seemingly told a different story. Winn will now be sidelined for at least 14 more days while Mason Black comes up from Triple-A Sacramento to fill the open spot in San Francisco's pitching staff.
