  • Jose Soriano SP | LAA

Angels' Jose Soriano: Handed loss Sunday

Soriano (4-7) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Cubs.

Soriano gave up two runs in the third inning and another in the fifth, and the Angels mustered just three hits to give him little support. He's allowed seven runs over nine innings across two starts since he returned from an abdominal infection. The right-hander is now at a 3.87 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 67:30 K:BB through 81.1 innings over 16 appearances (14 starts). After stretching out to 73 pitches Sunday, Soriano should be able to handle close to a full workload in his next start, which is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Mariners.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | SF

Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Ready for second rehab start

Mahle (elbow) is scheduled to make his second rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Round Rock, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Mahle is expected to cover around two innings once again Tuesday after he tossed two scoreless frames while striking out a batter in his first rehab outing with Round Rock on July 2. The right-hander is building back up from the Tommy John surgery he underwent last May and likely won't be an option for the Texas rotation until his 30-day rehab window comes to an end in early August.

  • Keider Montero SP | DET

Tigers' Keider Montero: Receiving second start

Montero is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Guardians in Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

He'll pick up a second straight turn through the rotation after he earned his first MLB win while limiting the Twins to two earned runs on six hits and one walk over 6.1 innings this past Wednesday following his promotion from Triple-A Toledo. Assuming he performs well enough against the Guardians to stick around with the big club, Montero will line up for one final start before the All-Star break next weekend versus the Dodgers at Comerica Park.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Rejoining rotation Thursday

The Tigers list Flaherty (back) as their scheduled starter for Thursday's game against the Guardians in Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Flaherty avoided a stint on the injured list when a back issue reared its head coming out of his June 27 start versus the Angels, but he'll end up having missed nearly two weeks while waiting for two pain-killing injections to provide some relief. The Tigers seem confident that the extended rest will help resolve Flaherty's back problems, which also resulted in him missing a turn through the rotation in the first half of June. Back issues aside, Flaherty has been even better than the Tigers could have hoped when they signed him to a one-year, $14 million deal this winter. Over his 15 starts, Flaherty has gone 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 115:14 K:BB in 89 innings.

  • Guardians' Logan Allen: Sent out to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Allen to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Allen is the second member of the Guardians' Opening Day rotation to be sent to Columbus within a week, as Triston McKenzie was previously dispatched to the minors last Sunday. Though he's stayed healthy all season, Allen has struggled mightily to build on a solid 2023 rookie campaign, as he's turned in a 5.67 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 76:35 K:BB across 87.1 innings through 18 starts. He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to newly acquired right-hander Spencer Howard, who could end up entering the rotation the next time Allen's turn comes up Thursday in Detroit.

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Royals' Seth Lugo: Takes third loss in quality start

Lugo (11-3) was tagged with the loss against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out eight.

Lugo allowed baserunners in five of his six innings of work but managed to limit the damage to three runs (two earned) as Kansas City's offense struggled to get any momentum going behind him. The right-hander induced 15 swings and misses on the night and has now recorded at least five strikeouts in four consecutive starts. Lugo has also posted a quality start in five straight contests and hasn't given up more than two runs in any of his last five outings. His 2.21 ERA on the season currently leads the American League, while his 11 wins also have him tied with Chris Sale for the league lead.

  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Blanks Tampa in no-decision

Heaney came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rays, allowing three hits and two walks over 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

The veteran lefty continued a surge that began when the calendar flipped to June. Heaney has given up three runs or less in seven straight starts, delivering a 2.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB through 39.2 innings over that stretch -- ratios very reminiscent of his 2022 breakout with the Dodgers. Heaney will look to stay sharp in his next outing, which lines up for a Lone Star Series clash with the Astros in Houston next weekend.

  • Taj Bradley SP | MIN

Rays' Taj Bradley: Settles for quality start Saturday

Bradley came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Rangers, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.

The right-hander was still the pitcher of record when the Rays took the lead in the top of the seventh, putting Bradley in line for his fourth win of the year, but Kevin Kelly blew the save in the bottom of the frame. The quality start was Bradley's third in his last five trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's posted a 1.29 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 45:13 K:BB through 35 innings. The 23-year-old right-hander will look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Guardians.

  • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Takes loss in spot start

Hancock (3-4) took the loss against Toronto on Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four batters over four innings.

Hancock was called up from the minors to make his first start since June 13 (and his second since May 7). He couldn't give the Mariners much length, though, needing 93 pitches to get through four frames. Hancock could be sent back down to the minors in short order if Bryan Woo (hamstring) is able to return to the big-league rotation next week.

  • Blue Jays' Yariel Rodriguez: Notches first big-league victory

Rodriguez (1-3) earned the win over Seattle on Saturday, pitching six scoreless innings during which he allowed one run and two walks while striking out six batters.

Rodriguez finished without allowing a run for the first time through seven big-league starts and gathered his first win. He induced a modest eight swinging strikes but still managed a healthy six punchouts. This was the second straight quality start for the rookie right-hander, and he's allowed just one run over 12.2 frames while posting a 12:4 K:BB across the two-game stretch.
